Ironically I did have a thought about a year ago. but it's almost impossible to make a weapon that can stop some one without killing them. Still, most robbers don't wear body armor.

I was thinking of using a form of paint balls filled with what amounts to a liquid that would cause an intense burning sensation. However a similar idea is already being worked upon by Rap 4 paint balls.

They're to expensive to fire in any volume. After doing airsoft in high school I can tell you that bbs going fast enough are a significant deterrent to doing just about anything. Smash and grab assholes would certainly be gone.
