I bought this waist/fanny pack to wear during a Halloween parade so I didn't have to carry a purse and holy shit this thing has changed my life! It feels stupid to consider something like this liberating or empowering but that's honestly how it's felt. It's been so amazing to not have to worry about hauling a purse around with me. I just get out of my car and go. I walk around all unencumbered. I have both hands free. It's amazing.
Ok, I don't know if this is an option for you, but recently I saw these cool hip bags on Amazon. Maybe that might be an alternative? (NOT a Fanny pack!)

I have this one. I get compliments on it all the time. It's great when I want to have all my purse stuff without having a free flying thing hanging off my shoulder.
