I'm a reader, so I always bring a paperback book with me to the store and stuff that, my wallet and a small notebook in to check for size. Too much larger and I end up carrying around my whole life. I've found the bags with sections or compartments end up not having enough pace because they're divided awkwardly, so I go with a big main bag with a front pocket and a little inside zipper pocket with a long strap.
