I currently use this monitor and couldn’t be happier with its quality. Samsung C27F591 27-Inch Curved... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CX26VNC?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

Bought this Black Friday last year on Amazon for 200$ and really have enjoyed its ability and features. Has built in speakers, curved display, different contrast and image modes depending on what you’re doing and is definitely one of my most pleasing electronic purchases. Would definitely give it a look!!

From what I've seen on camelcamelcamel, it's tied for historic low.

This time of the year is the best for buying monitors. I just bought [this 27" curved monitor] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01CX26VNC/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1511139401&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=samsung+c27f591&dpPl=1&dpID=415MhKU716L&ref=plSrch]) for $200 down from $350. If you tend to game on the side any it's a great deal for the price. Even if OP isn't interested I hope I shed light onto somebody.

Thanks for the advice!

I'm thinking of going with the RX 480, I want to spend to build a good machine to run all of the current games, but I don't want it to get too pricey.

So thinking about the GPU, I was looking at the Samsung CF591 which is FreeSync compatible, but the $199 deal on Amazon just sold out, so I'm looking around again.

Perhaps the Samsung CF591 will fit your needs?

It's a VA panel meaning it has good contrast (deeper blacks) and it's curved so it should be great for movies. This monitor has some great reviews across the internet.

One more option is a 1080p VA/PLS/IPS FreeSync monitor - perhaps a 27" model if you're not sitting close to it. There's a ton of them coming up from Samsung and LG, with prices starting from around $200 for a 24" model. Personally I'm considering this curved Samsung. Not an upgrade in terms of resolution from my 1080p IPS monitor, but at least it's big and curved.

We also might see 1080p 144Hz VA panels later this year - but again they probably won't be cheap.

Samsung has a 27" version and an Ultrawide too

I am in the same boat as you are. I got an IPS HP monitor but the back light was too much for me inspite of a fantastic picture/color. So I sent it back.

I looked at the BenQ but after seeing it in action, the blacks didn't look too great and it is a TN monitor as well.

I am getting this tomorrow however after doing some research again and seeing great reviews. It just came out recently and has a 3000:1 contrast ratio vs 1000:1 for IPS or TN monitors. It also does gamesync over HDMI too which is nice.
