I currently have mine setup to boot into the NES Classic firmware, and have had it setup to boot into the Shonen Jump firmware. I found it really easy, and here are the steps (as best as I can remember) to do it.
Sorry if this is kind of long, but I wanted to be as precise as possible to the steps that I used to get mine working.
These are the things that I used,
USB adapter www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FY9Z9GD
Thumb Drive www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Ultra-Transfer-Speeds-SDCZ48-064G-UAM46/dp/B00KYK2ABI (I know that this one is overkill for what I do, and that I don't need USB3 but it is the best one that I have tried)
Hakchi2-CE https://github.com/pathartl/Hakchi2-CE/releases I use the 3.5.3 version, which is the most recent as of writing this.
That should be everything that is needed to get it working.
I would like to shout out u/PattonPlays for he has great tutorials on how to do a lot of hacking of the Nintendo Classic systems. I wish I had found him before I started hacking my system. Here is his YouTube channel as well https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCO91Nlt9y8svZF8VjEKpkmQ there are great videos on there, and even though some of his hacking videos are older, he seems to be updating them
Definitely NOT legit.
Such large capacities at low prices usually means SCAM.
Plenty of these found on YouTube videos debunking them. Also the fact that these flash drives are housed in generic cheap cases means it’s probably, most likely, definitely SCAM.
All it takes is for a scammer to use a program and spoof the micro controller to report a fake size.
Flash drives aren’t that expensive anymore.
Name brand 64GB USB 2.0 go for about $15 USD or less.
Sandisk has a 64GB USB 3 for $18 USD.
Don’t even risk it, honestly.
SAUCE: SanDisk Ultra CZ48 64GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Transfer Speeds Up To 100MB/s (SDCZ48-064G-UAM46) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KYK2ABI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_tx1XAb7HFSS95
You realize you can get a 64gb usb drive for like $10, and that stand is also like $11.
Typically prices here are 10-15% LESS than ebay because you're not paying ebay fees and such.
Ultimately ask for whatever you want, but paying over 100 for a pstv with no controllers is bonkers imho.
It looks like the guy in the video is using this as an enclosure and switched out the sliding mechanism with a translucent plastic. Other than that you can try 3d printing an enclosure, you can find ones for flash drives on thingiverse and melt a hole into the end for the cord. Assuming that you don't have access to a 3d printer there are libraries that have them and generally you can rent out print time or something to that effect.
Edit:
Also are you getting increasing battery percentage even while in use?
As the other poster said: no. SD cards are fine for video/audio storage but very very painful to try to run a OS from. I tried it once for fun and it's not fun - the port speed is just too slow for anything that anyone would want to use.
It works, but you don't want it.
Again: On a nice modern USB 3.0 stick - you'll get speeds that are pretty much as good as the eMMC in your chromebook. I snagged a 64GB stick from WalMart here in the USA for $19.99 yesterday, works wonderful.
https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Ultra-Transfer-Speeds-SDCZ48-064G-UAM46/dp/B00KYK2ABI is the stick I bought - I have a debian install via crouton stored there, and it seems to perform about as well as the internal eMMC install would.
Chroma Cables
1/4inch headphone adaptors
USB drives
Earplugs
iTunes Giftcard
A few things. I would get a better WiFi adapter that does ac as well as N. AC is shorter range (because 5Ghz doesn't go as far as 2.4Ghz) while N will allow you to be much further from the router because N is 2.4Ghz. Depending on your router, it would be wise to pick up a b/g/n/ac card as AC will provide better speeds and the 5Ghz is mostly in the free space (2.4Ghz is over saturated in most places, especially apartment complexes, which can cause degradation of service)
I don't often bring this up but most people don't actually use their CD/DVD drive. I don't have one on my computer as I just use USB flash drives for anything that might need a DVD. Plus writing an ISO to USB is way easier and quicker than burning an ISO to a DVD and it's reusable for many things. As a for instance, you can burn a windows iso to a USB drive (about 4GB) and then if you have extra space (say you have a 8GB drive) use it for additional storage on top of also being your OS installation. You can go big and get something like 32 or 64 or even 128 for very cheap. Make sure its USB 3.0 though. I just grabbed the first 64GB 3.0 I found on amazon http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Ultra-Transfer-Speeds-SDCZ48-064G-UAM46/dp/B00KYK2ABI/ref=sr_1_6?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1464889936&sr=1-6&keywords=64gb+flash+drive
Check out Rufus if you have windows https://rufus.akeo.ie/ for writing ISOs to USB.
The PSU is fine, while it's "cheap" it's because it's non-modular but I've never had issues with EVGA previously. You can splurge and get a modular one which would be better for a first time build.
I realize you're probably on a budget, but if you can give your budget (I'm assuming under 500) I can recommend some changes.
Similar model on Amazon for cheaper:
