I still use the Swing-a-way can opener that my mother got as a housewarming present when she first moved out of her parents' house at 16.
I bought a Swing-A-Way in 1974. It still works great.
I inherited a can opener when I moved out. I love this can opener. I will punch someone if they try to take my can opener.

I've always had great luck with the kind linked above. The one my parents had from probably before I was born is still in a drawer in my dad's kitchen, working perfect.
I just recently replaced mine after 15 years of regular use. It's this one.
Get one of these. Totally manual, easy to use, absolute beasts that can be used to open your tins and then as a bludgeon against the zombie hordes.
