I've met short Indian guys pulling it off successfully. Weren't necessarily people I looked up to, but they certainly did get laid. It's a lot of work and not really for everyone.

There are definitely guides out there for that. It's called pick-up. Somebody already mentioned "The Game" by Neil Strauss AKA: Style so definitely let that be your first read as it's more of a story then a play by play guide. I would also recommend "Bang" to get more tips. You should also torrent the old VH1 show, "The Pick-Up Artist". I believe there was a contestant on there who was a 40 year old virgin as well. Even if you feel content in your situation right now, reading these books will give you the desire to change.
