I can't afford the higher end stuff, but sound sensitivity is one of my biggest problems with my migraines since I started getting botox for them. (The botox helped with the general pain and the light sensitivity, but not the sound.) On a super tight budget, I got these and while they're not super noise cancelling, they do a really good job of at least muffling sounds. When my 4 year old is running around screaming at the top of his lungs, it's more at the level of a loud conversation, and not nearly so piercing. I often play quiet music or white noise to make them even more effective.

u/RockyCoon · 2 pointsr/RandomKindness

First off, that's neat! Secondly...

My headphones broke 2 months ago. Other stuff is more important, but since then I haven't been able to listen to music, and need to play games with subtitles on....or...not at all if there's no subtitles, and some games are outright not possible. I have a broken pair of earbuds I can use in desperation, but they're uncomfortable and don't quite reach all the way.

With stuff like my hubby's laptop broken and other stuff being more important it's gonna be a few more months till I can shell out for a new headset.

So It'd be nice to get a new headset. This is about the cheapest 'okay' pair I could find that isn't some 'Hong Kong Special' that looks like it'd break in a day. (Like I've ordered before. ;P and was using before!)

I use them and they are a steal. Can't recommend them enough.

All ear-bud headphones are destined to fail sooner than later, and the half-life is dramatically decreased by running with them. Anecdotally I found that a set of cheapish skull candy ones actually lasted the longest. The price of earbud headphones is highly subject to diminishing returns. You could splurge on something really pricey that may last a little longer or go cheapo and get the same quality in sound. I also find that the cheap ones are surprisingly the most comfortable. The end result is you could buy a pricey set for sixty bucks and be stuck with it, or go ten bucks in and replace it several times, but with less money lost overall. Meh.

As for gaming, before /r/thebestofamazon went under for shady mod business, I actually found a pretty good thread on headphones that pointed me here: http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Stereo-Gaming-Headset-TM-YB100A/dp/B001FY7LBQ/ I bought'em on prime for under twenty bucks and they're still amazing a year later after heavy use.

I chose my screenname off of an anime called Mirai Nikki. I must have really liked it a lot to make a username off of it.

Cheap side of the spectrum - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001FY7LBQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They have worked fine ever since I've bought them. They take drops fine and seem sturdy enough.

I've been using this Yapster headset, which is $15 and works like a goddamn dream in every voice-related program I've used it with thus far. (Works with the in-game system just fine, though I honestly use Skype instead.)

u/ASchoe311 · 1 pointr/buildapc

This headset (which I have been using for almost 2 years now and love)only costs $20 and it's actually pretty high quality. Stereo sound, good quality mic, comfortable (and adjustable), and volume and mic mute controller built into the cable.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001FY7LBQ

By the way, I have the standard version, not the plus version.

Edit: Just a heads up, the pictures on amazon show that there is no covering on the mic, but there will be a foam mic cover when you actually get it (shown in the product description box farther down the page).

u/Monsieur_Skeltal · 1 pointr/DotA2

Since my headset broke I've been on a losing streak. Being unable to correct my teammate's mistakes like when the support contests the carry's farm is invaluable. Dedicating myself to the keyboard got me killed once actually. Headsets are important. If you're looking for something budget try this.

u/adaranyx · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I need these! so I can talk to my RAOA friends on Skype without having to talk over my boyfriend's games or music and so they don't have to deal with the feedback my mic sometimes decides is necessary. :\

Since you want to spend $50, why not gift someone a very good book which one can cherish and value for a long time.

Amazon recently opened its stores (online) in India. You can check my wishlist as my flair on this subreddit. (Prices on Indian site are cheaper in case of books).

Anyway, here are some of my suggestions (you can also gift used products available on Amazon to save some money):

Never heard of Deal Extreme personally.

I know most people like USB headsets for quality purposes, if they are willing to pay a little more.

My personal favorite is this headset which is green/red cord, but the quality is supreme for the price. The only downside is the cord is extremely long, and I have tripped over it and ruined more than one of these headsets like this.

u/knukx · 1 pointr/headphones

Budget - $20-30

Source - PC

Requirements for Isolation - None. They will be used in my home

Preferred Type of Headphone - Preferably over ear but on ear may be okay, wired, in-line volume/mic control, must have mic

Past headphones - Plantronics Gamecom 307

Preferred Music - Primarily for gaming, not music

Location - US

I was looking at a three options, but other suggestions are welcome:

This kinda sketchy unnamed one, Turtle Beach Ear Force Z11, or Sennheiser HD201, which I just realized have no mic.

I really only care about using them for gaming. I'm not really huge on sound, as long as they have decent sound quality (if it is any sort of scale, I thought my old crappy Plantronics sounded great until they broke) and I can tell what direction it is coming from, it should be fine. Not for music at all. In line volume control is definitely preferable so I can change volume in game without alt tabbing every time. Thanks!

u/MrZipar · 1 pointr/headphones

I'm certainly not a big spender on headphones, and i don't have the funds to go crazy (even over 30 dollars would be stretching my fund.)

I'm considering http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Stereo-Gaming-Headset-TM-YB100A/dp/B001FY7LBQ/ref=zg_bs_402053011_1 for just 20 bucks. Does anyone have experience in if these will last me a year or two before they break?

Being in highschool leads to quite the lack of money, and I need a new headset to get me off till I can get a job and afford to spend more than 50 bucks to get a nice pair when I go off to college.

Thanks!

Cool, I added you into the sidebar.

As for your mic. This one is cheap and it sounds good. Kat and I picked up two of these when we decided to start recording for YouTube and so far we are quite happy with them. http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Stereo-Gaming-Headset-TM-YB100A/dp/B001FY7LBQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1377182470&sr=8-1&keywords=headset

Budget - $100-$150 currently, but I wouldn't mind seeing some hypothetical high-range options.

Source - PC, and possibly an MP3 player if I ever decide to buy a cheap one.

Requirements for Isolation - I care less about this, but for me, the more noise cancelling the better.

Preferred Type of Headphone - Full-sized/over-ear. This is a high priority factor.

Preferred tonal balance - "Close to reality" is my preference, so...I suppose balanced?

Past headphones - I'm currently using these Yapster Universals. They're nice and all, but they just...don't really sit on my head very nicely. I'd love to hear better sound with them holding onto my head a bit more tightly. I've also worn on-ears and IEM's in the past, both of which were so uncomfortable that I couldn't even pay attention to what I was hearing.

Preferred Music - Orchestral, Celtic folk, other folk, jazz, a bit of the electronic side (e.g. EDM, House, melodic dubstep, chiptunes), and pretty much anything else that sounds good melodically. The main one is orchestral, though.

Additional Information - Above all else is comfort. As I alluded before, I don't like loose-fitting headphones very much, and would prefer ones that have a more snug hold. Also, you know, something durable would be nice. I don't abuse my headphones at all, but I do neglect them sometimes. They've been stepped on more than once and rolled over by a swivel chair a few times.

If anyone wants a cheap mic, I always say the TekNMotion on Amazon. It's only $20, is memory foam padded (is actually more comfortable than my HyperX Cloud 2, but the padding eventually packs down) and lasted me 18 months before I had to get a new one. Not sure why it doesn't show it, but it does have the pop filter on it.

After a year of that, I went up to a Cloud 2 for better sound direction and quality.

Probably not what you are looking for, but I use [these] (http://www.amazon.com/Universal-PC-Stereo-Gaming-Headset-TM-YB100A/dp/B001FY7LBQ/ref=sr_1_7?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1332963626&sr=1-7) and they work great for my gaming needs. The sound is actually very good considering the price. I've been using them for a couple of months now with a couple of different games.

u/ulgi · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

If you're looking for a headset, I recently bought this one. It's got excellent (for the price) mic quality, decent sound quality coming through, and it's not uncomfortable. I'd recommend it.

As for a mouse, I've been using this for quite a while. It's very sturdy, very reliable, and does its job exactly as you would expect. I've had two of them, and the scroll wheel on the second was unusually stiff (look at the product reviews), but once it was broken it it was fine.

Added together that's a bit more than $40 with free shipping. Thanks for the contest!

Headset that would help me a lot with working on project with my friend. I have to use a chat thing while he talks into a headset, so I'm constantly closing the coding program so I can speak to him. This would speed up projects a lot :)

u/godziya · 1 pointr/buildapc

I probably should have included alternatives in the original post

This headset is the little brother of the first one

If you really want something budget, I used THIS ONE for a while. Good sound quality, but not most comfy

u/cbs5090 · 0 pointsr/buildapc

I bought a very cheap set on amazon. It was around $20 with free shipping through prime. They work perfectly fine and if they break later on down the line, no big deal, they were $20. I'll go dig up the link in a second.

EDIT: Found it.
