I bought this to replace the cigarette lighter by the shifter, and it worked fine for when I had CarPlay, and now Android Auto.
I used to have an '01 LX470 and replaced the ML system. My main motivator was that the front speakers were blowing, and they were expensive to replace. The ML speakers cannot be replaced by aftermarket speakers if you leave the factory amp in place (which the TYTO-01 harness does). The ML speakers have an impedance of 8 Ohms, and most aftermarket speakers have an impedance of 4 Ohms. If you mismatch, you risk pulling too much power and damaging the amp.
I replaced the head unit, bypassed the ML amp by running new speaker wire from the doors to the dash, and replaced the speakers in the front and rear doors with 6.5 inch speakers. The fronts screw right into the factory bracket, but the rears required me to make my own bracket out of MDF. I lost the tweeters and the sub, but I used composite speakers and they sounded pretty good.
I now have a 2000 LX, and it was much easier to swap out the head unit on it.

Just relocating. Already had the Toyota USB adaptor cable to install my Sony head unit last year. Just bought a simple $10 USB kit off Amazon. Drill a hole, Voila!
