Savage 110BA STEALTH

Comes in a few calibers, I have one in 300WM that is great out to 600-700 yards (my old eyes can't go much farther than that, nor are there ranges around here where I can shoot farther). I also like that its less than $1 a round (vs $3 a round for 338 Lupua, which while it shoots farther doesn't help me much). I generally see them run in the $1100-1500 range (new/used)

They also have the Savage 10BA in 6.5 Creedmore which I am told is pretty solid, I think those run about $1000 (and a lil more than $1 a round) but I've not shot one.

Throw on something like a Vortex VHS-4310 Viper HS-T 6-24x50mm for $600-700.

Should keep your costs down close to where you want them (well, will end up being closer to $2000 but precision of any kind costs money). It will let you figure out the kinds of things you need/want to do, and isn't so expensive that you can truthfully find out if long range is something you really want to do long term (which means investing lots and lots of cash).
