I used a paint edging tool and a telescoping pole. The edging tool screws onto the pole.

Best tip is to NOT dip the edger in a tray of paint. You end up getting paint on the roller wheels, which transfers to the ceiling.
Use your paintbrush to put paint on the pad. Then the rollers stay clean, and your ceiling too.
Paint the ceiling first, smearing ceiling paint at least an inch onto the wall. Tape a paintbrush to your telescoping pole, and really get paint into the corners. This way you get that corner/edge covered, and you don't have to tape anything off.
Then put your roller on the telescoping pole. Use it to paint UP the wall as high as you can with a roller, but stop the roller about 3 inches below the ceiling. (This stops you from transferring paint from the roller up to your ceiling.)
Switch to the edging tool, and do that 3-inch gap. You get a nice clean edge.
