Ah, I see. If you had mentioned this was a cordless vacuum, I would have immediately suggested a better vacuum. Sure, Dyson & other manufacturers have made great strides in how advanced cordless vacuums are, but they still have yet to improve to the point to replace corded vacuums. Wait at least another 5 to 7 years & then they will likely be improved enough.

This is a standard style hard floor brush that many new canister vacuums with a powerhead come with to clean hard floors. It can also be added to any standard vacuum that uses 1.25", 32mm tubes that most North American vacuums use, as long as the vacuum has enough suction.
I would suggest, for your $500 budget, that you look at the Riccar Prima canister with the full size powerhead for $499 at McHardy Vacuums. It's not listed on their website - just the Riccar Sunburst - but if you call & ask to speak to Rebecca, they do have them available. This would be a really good, high quality option for you. The hard floor brush swivels & also includes has a microfibre pad behind the bristles so no dust is left on the floor - perfect for your situation with lots of hard floors. And the powerhead also has a metal bottom plate, geared belt & metal brushroll for durability. You could also look at the Miele C2 Cat & Dog for $699, but depending on your carpets you might have to add the SEB228 powerhead, which would signifigantly increase the cost to over $800, which is a lot more than you wanted to spend. Also, if you have allergies, you would have to upgrade to the HEPA filter, & that's another $50. That's already included in the Riccar Prima canister though.
