I completely forgot about this, so I'll mention it for whatever it's worth:

The Filofax notebooks are based on the Blueline MiracleBind binding system (which has been around for years). The MiracleBind notebooks come in different sizes, and the paper is different, but they're far less expensive than the fancy Filofax ones (and, frankly, for regular old notetaking, I liked the MiracleBind 7.25x9.25" size better than the Filofax A5 -- I just like the Filofax covers with elastic better for everyday carry), so if it's the binding system you're after you might want to give one a try.

The point is, if anybody is interested, the MiracleBind brand hole punch for $29.65 and the Filofax brand hole punch for $44.99 plus shipping are exactly the same product with different writing printed on. (I bought both, just to compare.) The MiracleBind one looks like it's missing a punch in the middle, but it's included in the box -- you just pop it in. So you can save more than $20 by getting the one with the MiracleBind brand.

I blurred our names as I added in some punch outs of our save the dates. Awesome idea from this sub! I used this hexagon punch and this one for the smaller size. I bought an 18"x24" frame, as I had a small wedding so not toooo many cards. Some particularly beautiful ones are punched a couple of times.

u/dimeuhdozen · 3 pointsr/weddingplanning

yes! reposting from another comment.. I got 16x20 foam board and some deep blue acrylic paint for the surface. Then I cut covers of the cards off (I wanted to save the insides so we could still read the notes people wrote us). I used this hole punch and just went to work! A lot of the cards I have to cut up to be able to get to the part I wanted. Using the hole punch upside down was easier so that you could see exactly where you were cutting. Then I arranged all of them on the board with the colors and textures as evenly distributed as I could and started gluing! I just used clear gorilla glue. I should have drawn a grid to keep it perfectly even but I thought eyeballing the distance turned out fine :)

Yeah, and your badges will look way more polished, and no more exacto knifes. It's money well spent! XD

i am proud that the play I wrote is being performed this week. Proud and nervous. :)

Kokuyo has a 26-hole binder paper that fits in a binder. Get a couple binders, one to carry and one for storage, and then you could carry less with you daily and then re-organize and file papers away when you don't need to carry them. This may also help when you are reviewing, as you can insert summary pages where they belong. I think the Semi B5 size is an excellent one.

As a teacher, I don't have time to punch holes in everything I give my students. I invested in [this] (http://www.amazon.com/S-P-Richards-Company-Electric-SPR96003/dp/B000GAU6XK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1369026221&sr=8-1&keywords=automatic+hole+puncher) a couple of years ago (the "sale price" is pretty standard) and set it up in my classroom. It's saved me a ton of time and hassle.

Part I'm willing to share: Someone overseas sent me a few texts, which probably costs me a lot, and they were bitching at me for no reason whatsoever. The issue in question gave me an anxiety attack.

Good part about today: I had some tea, my food tastes great, and my hair suds up really well in the shower - almost like whipped cream.

Life is mostly bliss and occasionally bat shit crazy.

wahoo! click me!

It's nothing special, just one of the first I found on Amazon.

Are you using cardstock or regular printer paper? I've noticed that the punches can't really do thin paper very well because the paper will cumple and jam before the blades can do the work. I print all my token and paper miniatures onto 110 lb. cardstock and the punches seem to work much better.

I've also noticed that if I try to punch a hole too close to the edge of the paper it can still crumple and won't cut, so the tokens need spaced out a little bit.

Here’s the hole punches I used. Get one of those mats for using an exacto knife on and give it a sharp tap with a hammer. Heavy cotton card stock holds up the best IMO.

A note about ID cards:

You don't need a ID card printer. After reviewing some episodes, it looks like the ID cards are printed on a heavy card stock (similar to that of a good quality business card) and the images are stuck on. The images look to be old-school passport photos and stuck directly on the badge. Now there are several different ways to accomplish this look but here's how I've gone about it (I'll upload another post with detail and pictures of the process at a later date).

  1. Source some blank business cards, and self adhesive clear contact (like that used for covering books), a printer and some plain printer paper, and some scissors.
  2. Practice making a few on printer paper by printing them the size of your business card and sticking some contact over just the picture.
  3. Print on the blank business card and round the corners, cut the hole for the tag holder.

    Some optional extras:

    ID Badge hole punch

+1 for Rotring 600 or 800

Also a 4 hole punch would be nice if he wants to make up his own custom notebooks with millimetric graph paper and such.

You mean like this? Look for English paper piecing cutters rather than scrapbook cutters for bigger size punches.

For future reference, there are ID card hole punches that make the slot so you don't have to use a round punch several times. Security or whoever makes the badges at your hospital most likely has one and could punch it for you.

I would like it be able to move, perhaps with a hinge. But no not actually functional like to be able to punch holes.

This is a generic hole punch like I was thinking. http://www.amazon.com/PaperPro-3-Hole-Punch-Sheet-Capacity/dp/B004I2EB24

I prefer the washers due to the weight and that you can get them as 1", 2", 3" for your medium, large, huge monsters. You can then get a 4" grinding plate for the gargantuan.

Rather than Epoxy stickers, i used photoreal paper and printed tokens out at 300dpi then used a circle punch, 1"-3" like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YNZE76G/ref=asc_df_B00YNZE76G5170978/?tag=hyprod-20&creative=394997&creativeASIN=B00YNZE76G&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198093091141&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=907201100794541241&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1015027&hvtargid=pla-320869262101 to get a perfect circular cut then just glue stick a living side image and then a dead side image.

Or just buy one on amazon. I think that'd be easier but idk.

u/Sm00chie · 1 pointr/craftit

These are the first places I went. The biggest punch I could find was on Amazon, but it was just a bit too small.

u/ejyd · 1 pointr/notebooks

This is bigger than you want (at 5.5x3.5) but the binding is less bulky than the traditional rings and so a slimmer notebook:

Filofax Notebook at Amazon

Review at Goulet Pens

These notebooks are not like the typical Filofax binder but similar to the Circa/Arc line using more of a twin-wire type spiral binding. Refills can be bought (expensive) or you can use this punch.
The cover material isn't that thick so I think it could be cut down to size. Don't know what the cut edges would be like but could probably be taped or be re-finished/re-covered somehow.
