I had the Alpinestars Daystar kit and it was ok for short periods. Anything more than an hour in reasonable rain and it would leak.

I've now got the Richa Cyclone kit, its full Goretex and is reasonably priced and far better.

Or you could go for a cheap set of leathers and a one/two piece oversuit to keep you dry - this is sometimes easier if you're commuting as the suit is far easier to dry in an office than textiles.

Headset - one of these. Absolutely excellent for the price.

Can anyone reccomend anything better for the money? Obviously we want to be able to talk between 3 of us, and on my way back hooking into my gps or Ipod via bluetooth is going to be extremely important. I've done some research, and these seem to be one of only a few options that support 3 riders at once...

You have 12 hours to change my mind.

Edit: This is the chatterbox we are thinking about ordering: http://www.amazon.com/ChatterBox-XBi2-Bluetooth-Wireless-Intercom/dp/B0029LY6QW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1317868800&sr=8-1

u/red76239 · 1 pointr/amateurradio

Still not sure what you are using them for. Sounds like something work related. This would be an option very similar to the motorcycle comm set, but it would not require a helmet to mount it to. Once they are paired just press one button and it is just like talking on the phone. Press the button again and it hangs up just like a phone. http://www.amazon.com/Sena-SPH10-10-Outdoor-Bluetooth-Intercom/dp/B0087NB2OU/ref=sr_1_14?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1451521343&sr=1-14&keywords=sena

Plugphones are trash. They're cheap but I could barely hear anything through them. I'll check it out, thanks! I found these on Amazon. They have good reviews and half the price of the Senas. The only thing I don't care for are the bulky controls. Sena has the similar set with the really thin controls but it gets pricey

u/Andy1816 · 1 pointr/scooters

Get yourself a pair of these:

https://static.vplak.com/images/panasonic/RP-HS46E/white/image-1.jpg

or similar. Pull off the clip-on part, and tape them to the inside of your helmet next to your ears. The helmet may have a recessed space for them to fit in, like this
Then just plug them into your phone and have Google Maps dictate directions to you.

Custom helmet wireless headsets are like $40, but you should be able to find a par of clip on earphones for ~6 bucks at like TJ Maxx

The Sena 10C is great, also allows you to communicate with other riders and you can record your rides as well, be it for vlogging or as a dashcam.

u/-RadarRanger- · 1 pointr/motorcycles

I bought a set of Freedconn Bluetooth communicators secondhand. I was pretty thrilled for awhile. One of them, the left earphone didn't work, so I gave it to a friend who just wanted to be able to answer and place calls from his helmet. The other was working great until this week; now suddenly the damned microphone doesn't work. I can still listen to FM radio and play music off my phone, but I can't use voice commands or answer phone calls or dictate texts, which is a huge bummer.

I'll probably keep using it for awhile and then go after a set of BT-S2's and see how they work out.

u/h00nigan · 1 pointr/motorcycles

I have one of these:

http://www.amazon.com/Parrot-SK4000-Bluetooth-Motorcycle-Wireless/dp/B001FTF2P8/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1377538008&sr=8-3

I love all the features, especially the remote. Works great. Just can't hear the damn thing, no matter how I adjust the speakers. Music works ok, I guess, but podcasts are completely inaudible.

u/TheDisapprovingBrit · 3 pointsr/MotoUK

I use one of these. Built in radio, bluetooth for your phone, and actually works pretty well as an intercom if you've got a pillion.

u/namtabmai · 6 pointsr/motorcycles

I've got the Sena 3S and it's only $87. Use it to listen to music pretty much every ride.

> Sena SMH5

Is there something extra that you get with a 2x set that doesn't come with buying 2 individuals because it looks like an single headset is $97 on amazon with prime. http://www.amazon.com/Sena-SMH5-01-Low-Profile-Motorcycle-Bluetooth/dp/B0071HE2DG

u/bilged · 8 pointsr/motorcycles

I have the Sena SMH5-FM and I love it. Its $125 on Amazon but you could probably find it cheaper.

Compared to the newer models its bigger but not to the point where it interferes with my helmet in any way. The FM model has the upgraded speakers and built in FM radio vs the regular SMH5. I mount it using the adhesive mounting clip and routed the wires through a small hole I cut in the helmet's lining. Mike and speakers work well even at highway speeds although I wear earplugs too so sometimes call audio can be too quiet.

u/wtfCake · 8 pointsr/motorcycles

If you've got one of the Zero bikes(electric) and are going slower than 5 mph at about 3 am with no other traffic, then yes you could probably get by without a mic. The second you go above about 10mph, there's far too much wind noise, 30-50mph and you won't be able to really hear your bike. And unless you are planning on screaming inside your helmet the camera probably won't pick anything up.

I've got a GoPro Hero 3+ black and this is the mic I use($12.95): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MYPPPE/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And it's plugged into the gopro via with a 3.5mm to mini usb cable($10.88): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A3MY7L8/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If you're using a Sena headset, Sena makes a gopro backpack thing that lets you use your sena headset with your gopro($89.74): http://www.amazon.com/Sena-GP10-01-GoPro-Bluetooth-Pack/dp/B00I03984S

No mic(Still talking to rider ahead via Sena): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_tO2EumcFo

Mic on highway (60-70mph): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GeP_SqBCeA

Edit: Now with prices!

Edit2: Now with video!?

Instead of plugs, I myself recommend something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00CZ4VFOE

The ability to listen to Pandora down the interstate and past the loud ass Pentagon traffic every morning is awesome, save for when Ospreys are taking off/landing, and being able to fire up Waze or Google Maps and get directions in my ears can't be beat. I've got a handle bar mount for the phone, but I really can only look at it if I'm stopped.

Edit: words

u/tlrider1 · 3 pointsr/motorcycles

I'd personally go with the in helmet speakers rather than headphones. Every time I've had headphones, they're just a pain in the ass. Putting the helmet on always makes them pop out of place, or they pull my ear down, etc.... it just sucks! I've got the in helmet ones that look like pads and they work pretty well. Well enough that I'm totally cool with using them on the freeway at 60-70mph.

I can't vouch for this specific pair, as I use the ones that came with my BT-S2 system, but something along these lines: https://www.amazon.com/Tinksky-Bicycle-Motorcycle-Motorbike-Headphone/dp/B00XXLV5B6/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1491945675&sr=8-6&keywords=motorcycle+headphones

u/Damean1 · 3 pointsr/motorcycles

I have one, and it works just fine. Pairs up with my phone with no hassle. No issues at all hearing my tunes.

I have not tried to make or receive a call on it yet.

I also have this on a 3/4 helmet. I prefer it's operation to the S3, it's just a lot easier for me to use.

u/SirEDCaLot · 1 pointr/motorcycles

Under $300- easy. Sena headset intercom kit.

It goes in her helmet and lets her talk with other riders. But, it also connects to a mobile phone with Bluetooth, so the phone can play music, phone call audio, AND nav directions right into the headset.
Sena 10S motorcycle bluetooth intercom kit $215

If you want to spend a bit more than $300, there's the 10C for $350 which has a built in camera. That can be a safety thing, so if a driver does something bad she has evidence of it.

Note- if she has a Schuberth helmet (expensive European brand) get her the Schuberth bluetooth kit as it integrates into the helmet...

If you want cheaper, try a $45 RAM Cell Phone mount so she can mount her cell phone on her bike handlebars.
This may not be a great gift if she's really new to riding though as the mounted cell phone can be a distraction in some cases...

u/vanguard_anon · 5 pointsr/paramotor

It's called a sena backpack. Most people use a gopro 4. A gopro 3 might work but 5 and higher won't work.

Sena is a brand, they sell helmet bluetooths and 2-way mics and now they have some integrated Cam/Mic systems: https://www.amazon.com/Sena-10C-01-Motorcycle-Bluetooth-Communication/dp/B0100F7QOC

u/ScaredOfAPotato · 1 pointr/MotoUK

A SENA SMH5 is the answer.

u/4shwat · 1 pointr/MotoUK

If you don't want to take the lining off of the helmet, get some of the hooky velco strips to stick to the cloth. My speakers ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/FreedConn-Motorcycle-Motorbike-Communication-Interphone-1BIF002/dp/B00PKECDXI ) came with the hooks already on and they just stick to the inside of the helmet.

u/Falcon_Rogue · 3 pointsr/Dirtbikes

I use the Sena 3S
https://www.amazon.com/Sena-Bluetooth-Intercom-Scooters-Motorcycles/dp/B00NBSHP2Y

It's cheaper, can still sync intercom too but not sure how many.

u/slick62 · 1 pointr/motorcycles

Cheap headphones from Amazon. Got these last month for a trip but my cruiser is too loud over 35 mph (I wear earplugs) so they’re pretty useless. If you want to give them a try send a pm, you can have them.
