I have the same kind of shelf but the shelves are black instead.
I have my corn snake on it in a 30 gallon tank with a heating pad. As long as you have the heating pad on a thermostat, it shouldn't be an issue.

You could try pads made for sliding like these or these in PTFE/téflon that I couldn't find on Amazon US. That is, it you don't mind the top moving when you push it sideways, but it'll solve the adhesive problem.
Or a rubber mat that you cut to the correct size.
