Arion Legacy. These things sound absolutely amazing for the price. I've had them for a couple years now and I still have yet to find something that sounds anywhere near as good for the price. Highly recommended if you're in the market for new speakers.

Best bang for the buck is found here. At $47.99 they are incredibly hard to beat. Read the reviews, the bass rivals that of $300 speakers. Trust me, you wont regret it.

Found this with a quick Amazon search.

I got a set of Eagle Tech from amazon, but they were a bit cheaper than this. Good punch when I need it but for the most part they're just a nice set of speakers.

They feel a bit cheap but on the overall, they've got good sound and I'm not throwing them around so I don't feel that the cheap casing is a big deal.

These are pretty good. They've got great sound quality IMO, and can get pretty loud. The remote the come with isn't very good though.

Eagle Tech. I got them as a gift along with my monitor (TV) and they're pretty decent for what I use them for, which is mainly music and movies.

Are you testing all of these from the same audio output from the motherboard (back of machine, green jack)? Still curious if the results are the same using the headphone jack on the front, under the top bay cover on your case.

Those Eagle Arions look like thy require the use of a 3.5 mm to RCA splitter plugged into the AUX jacks. NOT the CD 3.5mm input at the top. See the 3rd picture down on in the left column of pictures here.

Headphones: Have you checked to make sure you didn't jostle one of the case connectors on the mobo? Those things will disconnect if you look at them funny...

The speakers are for my TV. The sound quality is pretty poor for some movies and I'd like a speaker system with 3 pieces. Something like this

logitech x-530 are really good. Dont recommend ones under $30 though if you want bass and loud clear sound. Logitech overall has really good ones. My cousin has these and they sound great too when he was playing Crysis and Battlefield.

I'm building a new PC and wound up about $200 under budget so I'm wanting to get something nice for about that much. Currently I'm using ATH M50s and I'm pretty happy with them for now and I'm in a small apartment so nice speakers seem like a waste, so I've been thinking about getting an headphone amp/DAC for my desk.

To be honest I'm wanting this just as much for the ability to control volume and switch sound between my headphones and desk speakers easily as I am wanting to improve the quality of my sound, but obviously that's important too.

Budget is $200, flexible up to about $300

Plugging these into my desktop PC

I prefer a smoother sound I guess

I'd be using the DAC or amp with ATH M50s primarily, but if I can use the DAC to improve the sound quality of my cheap desktop 2.1 speakers that would be a plus.

I listen to mostly folk, jazz, pop and other softer stuff but I also really enjoy EDM as well.

So far I've looked at the audioengine D1, aune T1, schiit M&M stack,
and the Audinst MX1 but to be honest I'm getting lost trying to figure out what I really need. Would any of these (or any others I missed) work for what I want in the ability to toggle sound between speakers and headphones and desktop volume control while still giving me some tangible improvement to my music for the price?
