Seriously, look into Bar Mitts
When it's really cold, I use these: Bar Mitts. My weekend group used to laugh, now a third of them have them, too. No problem braking or shifting, and my fingers were warm in 0 degree F on quick 20 mph rides.
Bar Mitts, bought these last year for winter commuting here in Vermont.

I don't need gloves in the 40's with these and down to 20F I only need my light sping/fall goves. Keep you hands warm and DRY! They are wonderful and I wonder why I suffered for a couple months before I got them. Great for commuting but as you can only use the hoods, wouldn't be comfortable for over an hour.
I'm hoping someone will link me to one of the Sealskinz they are talking about, I'm interested in another option for longer rides in the cold. I bought Sealskinz socks last year but haven't had a wet cold ride to try them out in yet.

Another idea. You can wear a thinner glove and maintain dexterity.I agree that the idea is warm more than dry. This helps me with both.
Definitely not aero, but warm as hell. These are Bar Mitts, and they’re super warm. I only wear a thin glove underneath, and my hands stay very comfortable.
