Hey, thanks for the information! Can you clarify some things about the breakout board for me though? From reading tutorials online, I understand that the OUT pin delivers an analog voltage that can be read by me, and that sending a signal to the STROBE pin will shift what is outputted to the next channel. However, what is RESET for and why do tutorials use it every time data is about to be read?

One more thing: If I use a splitter like this so I can do visualization with the MSGEQ7 board while simultaneously playing from my speakers, would there be significant quality or volume loss in the audio? Thanks for your help!

Thanks for your help mate! I ended up getting a board from eBay which should come next week. I think I've got an idea how it might all fit together. Will this badly drawn diagram work?

The back panel on the motherboard will be hidden inside the case so aesthetics aren't (too) important, with that in mind can I simply use a headphone splitter to send the audio signal to the VU meters and HI-FI simultaneously?

Well... Why not just use some audio cables?

So, plug the microphone into PC #2, since that needs to have your microphone.

Plug in the outputs of PC 1 and PC 2 together using something like this plus this. Maybe this one would do it all in one go?

If you need longer cables, get an extension
