We use bondo scrapers. They are cheap and malleable. To clean we just drop in a bucket of ethanol and give it a quick wipe. https://www.amazon.com/3M-357-Bondo-Spreader-Pack/dp/B000BOC9K4

As others have said:

  • Bondo - mix in small batches and use a plastic spreader

  • sand - use a sanding block to even out

  • spray primer - cover in a quick layer of primer. This will help finding spots that need fixed later.

  • sand - use a sanding block to sand down through the primer, once you hit bondo slow down.

  • more bondo - add bonds to the valleys that will be visible because they are still the color of primer

Repeat this process till you are happy with the surface.

  • Now prime and sand with finer and finer sandpaper till happy, then paint. Depending on how good of a surface you want you can wet sand between coats of paint.

Note You should make sure spray paint is cured before sanding. Cured paint is different than dry paint. Uncared paint will gum up sandpaper.. if this happens you need to wait before sanding more as it could really *#% a surface.
