I ride a loop around DFW airport on a 2 lane highway access road. It has medium traffic in the daytime, and very light traffic at night.
Add to that the fact that I'm way more visible, and it's a no brainer, it's way safer riding this route at night.
I run two rear lights (mainly for redundancy), and two front lights.. a bright light on the bar, and a light on the helmet. I like the helmet light because you can easily wave it toward cross traffic to get their attention just by turning your head.
I also wear a lot of stuff from the 'flashlight' line from dhb in the winter, which I highly recommend. It's cheap, and it has a lot of scotchlite material.
