You could run a standard ~400mm fork with a headtube extender if you have straight 1 1/8 headtube with an EC34 headset. Just make sure the steerer is around 100mm longer than your headtube if you buy a used fork.

Edit: Looking at the Route 66, only the 99/00 were 700c and neither look like they came with stock suspension. Are you sure it wasn’t added later?
