I had an idea today. Why couldn't I re-purpose an old Rainbird Sprinkler timer? It's basically a timer that closes NO circuits based on a schedule. It won't ever run two zones at a time. It won't need any programming other than the schedule. I could wire something like this to it:

And those 10A relays could handle either the positive or negative lead from the battery tender (which has max output of 3.3A).
