Sorry the camera angle is a little off but I swear the thing is level. Anyways, I moved into my first apartment recently and unfortunately there was no light in my bedroom. I had this idea after seeing something slightly similar online and I figured I could make it look a little better for less effort/money. I had never really done anything like this before but I figured why not.

Made a picture frame that's 2.5'/5' with some wood from Home Depot (they cut it for me), ran some sandpaper over it, and then stained the wood to resemble walnut. After it dried overnight (one coat was enough), I then hammered in cut tacks around the edge at 5.75 in. intervals. I bought a 165 ft. copper wire (with 500 LEDs) and then wrapped it around the tacks. Best part = I can change the brightness since the lights came with a remote/IR sensor.

I put it up a few days ago and recently had a housewarming party. Everyone thought it was really cool, especially when it's at lower light settings - really sets the mood.

I feel you. My fiance and I have a very limited ($3,500) budget as well. We took a different route venue wise, but I think you can pull it off! Tulle is an inexpensive material that can adorne many things. It's great for softening the look of things and adding a romantic/feminine charm. Not only that, but you can buy it in bulk for cheap and you wouldn't need to go overboard for it to make a difference.

I would also recommend focusing on ambiance. Stuff like these fairy lights would go a long way to adding charm to a bland space. Partner that with the tulle and you could do a lot!

I don't know what your vision for flowers (yay or nay?), but you could save a lot of money by using mostly greenery like fern and other plants typically used as filler. Another option is to buy them from a local market and arrange them a couple days before. There are products out there that would help them retain moisture and freshness (putting them in a home fridge would actually dry them out faster) so you can still have them looking nice the day of. You could also try silk flowers laced in with fresh greens if you don't like the idea of all artificial.

Thrift stores are another great option for various elements. I personally appreciate the mix-matched look, but I know that isn't for everyone. Because I prefer the non-matching route, I love the thrift stores.

These are just generic suggestions. Obviously it depends on the theme and feel you are trying to achieve but I hope this helps some! Good luck with your planning and try to keep your chin up! It will be a beautiful day and you will come out of it winning no matter how you decide to decorate :)
