I feel you. My fiance and I have a very limited ($3,500) budget as well. We took a different route venue wise, but I think you can pull it off! Tulle is an inexpensive material that can adorne many things. It's great for softening the look of things and adding a romantic/feminine charm. Not only that, but you can buy it in bulk for cheap and you wouldn't need to go overboard for it to make a difference.
I would also recommend focusing on ambiance. Stuff like these fairy lights would go a long way to adding charm to a bland space. Partner that with the tulle and you could do a lot!
I don't know what your vision for flowers (yay or nay?), but you could save a lot of money by using mostly greenery like fern and other plants typically used as filler. Another option is to buy them from a local market and arrange them a couple days before. There are products out there that would help them retain moisture and freshness (putting them in a home fridge would actually dry them out faster) so you can still have them looking nice the day of. You could also try silk flowers laced in with fresh greens if you don't like the idea of all artificial.
Thrift stores are another great option for various elements. I personally appreciate the mix-matched look, but I know that isn't for everyone. Because I prefer the non-matching route, I love the thrift stores.
These are just generic suggestions. Obviously it depends on the theme and feel you are trying to achieve but I hope this helps some! Good luck with your planning and try to keep your chin up! It will be a beautiful day and you will come out of it winning no matter how you decide to decorate :)
So here's my advice for making a living space you need on a budget. First, starting early is great! it gives you time to collect things and not panic!
Specific things to look for or try:
And last thing: you don't need to have every decoration when you first move into the apartment. It's better to take your time and slowly add things you love instead of filling the space with things that are 'ehh, it's fine for now.'
Please excuse the length, I love making lists.

My experience with University apartments is that the lighting is just plain icky. Buy some pretty decorative lights like this star lamp or string up some cafe lights. The dim, warmer lighting just makes the room feel more home-y and really makes it a place you want to spend time in.
Also, this is just me, but every home or apartment should have a plant. I'm a city-dweller, and being surrounded by pretty green leaves just livens up my whole place. I still have the plants I got for my first college house. I am very attached to all of my plants and I like to talk to them and sing to them, and caring for them is just so fun! And, they make great decorations. The first plant I got was a cactus. I had to leave mine in California when I moved back home, but a cactus is very easy to take care of. Just give it lots of sunshine, and water every once in a while. They grow very slowly, but it's soo cool to watch them slowly get fatter/taller.
Justin Bieber is one of the cockiest douchebags to ever rise to fame.
Here is the BOM:
Got these because they were black PCB, don't like the way it was waterproofed but actually worked pretty well probably more robust than the coated ones.

I also used some nice outdoor rated PSA foam tape to hold everything on along with a few black zip ties just in case. Wired everything and sealed with silicone. Make sure you don't serialize the strips they should be all connected in parallel so they chase in unison.
They are connected to my AUX power output using the standard automotive 12V plug. They come one when my bike does. Which is fine. If I want to turn them off you can do so from the app for the controller.
That's it. Now to start on the custom controller. Anyone connected to the CAN bus on this bike? That would be the easiest way to get speed.
Ok, Soo.. obviously I have no life but I browsed your apartment therapy classifieds and saw some really cool stuff. This is what I'd do:
Starting at the back towards the kitchen. To mix industrial & rustic I'd get these stools A guy local to you makes these so you can put them on your wishlist and not worry about getting them too fast if you like them.
Following from there, the half wall in front of the brick pillar just to the left when you come up there stairs, I'd put a small console table with maybe some books, candles, frames and a bowl to throw your keys in. Something almost like this But I wouldn't buy that exactly, it's over priced. You can easily make your own. Something very slim and only just the length of that wall. Maybe you can make your own legs like this or buy an old table take the off legs, spray paint them red and make your own console table top. It's really easy I just made made my own coffee table top for $50. It was very easy and home depot cut all the wood for me. I'd guess about $100 for you. Again, that can wait.
I'd put your TV on this killer vintage credenza that's a total steal at $280 with a cool $9 vintage owl I'd jump on that if you like it. It's a total steal I've seen that exact style run for much more.
I'd grab this baby for $700 first thing Along with this chair
I'd still keep the original coffee table and side table I posted.
cool storage for that nook/half wall by the stairs $180
I thought [these](As for wall decor these marquee letters would be cool framed and mix vintage and industrial.) were industrial and cool.
And this light is a cool industrial touch too
Also, it's always been a dream of mine to hang globe lights from rafters.
A cheap idea that he might like for a night light, that you may possibly already have on hand are holiday lights! We used a string of holiday lights for awhile, and then not long ago found some discounted colorful lantern party light type things that he really likes. I think he enjoys it so much due to being able to hang them up around his bed.

Edit:
Here's the kind of lantern lights I'm talking about.
But I'm pretty sure we paid no more than $5 for them on sale at some place like dollar general or walmart. I would definitely not pay $20 from amazon!
So I saw you said it didn't have to be related to goats, and I'm sure with the responses as well as your own personal searching you've seen almost everything (at least on amazon) goat related. So I looked through your wish list a bit and something that I kept seeing come up were things that were purple. Sometimes when I've got money burning a whole in my pocket and can't decide what to get, I just look up one work like for instance, the word "purple." Well, I looked it up and on amazon you've got options for a purple coffee maker, purple lights, purple butterfly wall art, purple car lights, or even a purple knife set. None of these things may actually interest you, but searching one word like that gives you such a broad range of things that might spark an idea for something similar.
Thanks for the contest and the #15 is also a favorite of mine so I appreciate you adding that as well! :)
Lol. I'm in this now. I am going to make a program that supports typical R / G / B / 12v 4 pin headers and the (DeepCool has it on their coolers, but its now pretty standard) 3 pin + power addressable RGB strips.

Like get a remind me for this. I am gonna make it happen.
Gonna use an Electron/NodeJS GUI for it and everything.

I'll begin with this project and go from there.

I will go as far as mapping each sound input and output device to any RGB strips connected to a PC.

Oh lord I'll even be using some of this code from the best rainmeter plugin there is.

Best part:
Things like these and thesewill be compatible.
Hi! So I picked up some copper string lights and need help sourcing a good method to hang them. They'll need to be attached to both a ceiling and a wall and I want the visual impact of the securing device to be minimal (why I'm not just using push pins or thumbtacks). Something like these command clips would be perfect if they didn't use 3M--that shit always wrecks my walls way worse than a tack or nail would.
So, either a thumbtack with a clear, flat head or something like the command clip that sticks into the wall sans 3M strip. Or any other creative alternative y'all wanna throw my way.
Thanks!
Guessing it's a party vs. something you could add some lights? Your main issue will be light from the fire will be prominent, and it'll make silhouettes of everyone.
Maybe you could string a bunch of party lights over/around the area to get some fill that would balance out with any actual fire. I'd try for a warm or amber color (traditional filament bulbs will read as amber/orange on daylight film, LEDs you'd want a warm white or amber). Filters will just cut your exposure even more, but shooting daylight neg film in this situation will give you a warm look that you can balance out in printing/post to some extent. The lights could give some interesting compositions and bokeh.
If it were me (a guy who likes lighting and has some gear) I'd take a battery-powered manual flash like the cheap-used Vivitar 285, tape an orange gel to it (like a 1/2 CTO), stick a cheap Chinese radio slave on it, and have someone hold it up high and pointed where I wanted it. You'd need a flash meter or a DSLR to suss out the power of the flash. I do this a lot to mix tungsten light with flash in a small rig that doesn't need cables or stands. If you look at the BG of that shot, it's like 1/2 second exposure and has some motion blur, but the flash freezes the subject, which could be a cool look at a party.
If it's just you and a camera, fastest film you can get, shoot wide open, and really brace your body for longer exposure. With practice, you can shoot like 1/15th wide wider lenses. If you want to use your 135, might bring a tripod or monopod.
And happy happy cake day!
Bonus: I prefer complete surprises.

I made this so I could visualize it myself. Simple and minimalist, so it seems fairly low maintenance. I like a black painted wood bench (add some pillows for your style), a black metal end table, and simple decor like potted plants and oversized lanterns. I think the curtain helps close in the area and make it look more cozy. I know this style isn't for everyone and may not exactly match your house exterior, but let me know if you like it :)

If the room feels cold, maybe some copper string lights from amazon (UK / US) would help, thats what I use to make my room look a bit cosier, as well as having a nice candle to light (I use fruity smelling big candles but you could just get some cheap tealights and a candle holder too). This especially helps because my room is completely white with grey carpet so I really needed something that made it feel less cold.

I have a couple of low maintenance plants on there just to make it seem a bit more homely and I have a blanket for if I'm working late or get cold.

Would you be able to put up a little corkboard to stick some pictures and a schedule etc on?

Do you have any pen pots or organisers on your desk? I think ASOS have some nice ones or you could go to a local stationary shop and check out what they have there

Most of it is just little personal touches to make me feel more comfortable there and make me actually want to sit down and study.

You could look into getting a non-climbing vine like pothos and "train" it upwards by threading them through command hooks like these mounted on the walls outside, that way you can easily disassemble it if you need to. Here's a great instagram post with pics if you need help visualizing it.
One thing I'd do: Match the outdoor living space to match the indoor living room. It'll look like a natural extension of the living room, making the space feel even bigger. Even if you don't go out there very often, even if the outdoor decor echoes/complements the indoor living room decor, visually-speaking it'll make the space seem huge.
Make the outdoor space look cozy and inviting by hanging up some cafe lights (you can get them on Amazon) and drapes on the ceiling. Get an area rug that can withstand the elements (this one is pretty neutral), some outdoor furniture and potted plants, and suddenly, your living room looks huge, even if you never go out to the balcony :).
Can someone help me?!?
Can y'all look at these and tell me if you think they'd look nice together (and if you think it's too feminine or if you think a guy wouldn't mind it keeping in mind he's kinda super chill about things). I promise this will one day be relavent (no I am not becoming a decorator for one of my friends - I wish) - also keeping in mind on a beach around dusk / nighttime

Ignore that they're all glowy lights, just what is the opinion of the colours TOGETHER as a whole.
Sounds like a decently large space. I'd start by putting these teak tiles down to make it seem more like a deck- tiles
Then make yourself a cool plant wall. Get some pots and soil and herbs from a local place and grow stuff. Even if you don't have much sun there's options for some greenery.
Hang some cool outdoor lights like these: lights
Finally, give yourself some seating with either a cafe style table and chairs, a small outdoor couch, or a couple of outdoor rocking chairs with a small side table.
Sorry the camera angle is a little off but I swear the thing is level. Anyways, I moved into my first apartment recently and unfortunately there was no light in my bedroom. I had this idea after seeing something slightly similar online and I figured I could make it look a little better for less effort/money. I had never really done anything like this before but I figured why not.
Made a picture frame that's 2.5'/5' with some wood from Home Depot (they cut it for me), ran some sandpaper over it, and then stained the wood to resemble walnut. After it dried overnight (one coat was enough), I then hammered in cut tacks around the edge at 5.75 in. intervals. I bought a 165 ft. copper wire (with 500 LEDs) and then wrapped it around the tacks. Best part = I can change the brightness since the lights came with a remote/IR sensor.
I put it up a few days ago and recently had a housewarming party. Everyone thought it was really cool, especially when it's at lower light settings - really sets the mood.
And you'd recommend doing string lights along with the natural light? Or covering up the windows? Is there any kind of string light that would be better? I had my eye on these. Given the dimensions of the room (I don't know for sure, but somebody else estimated roughly 40' by 42'), I figured three of the 100' ones would cover it pretty well?
Hallucinogen - Space Pussy
I'm a big fan of this kind of trance because it's the perfect thing to listen to while browsing the internet or reading or working. It's more than just a song, Simon Posford (writer and producer, also known for his work in Shpongle) is an experience that helps me mediate my thoughts and transforms me to another realm.
These flower lights would really help me with an art project I'm working on.
Oh I love my fairy lights! They're really nice to have to spruce up the occasional still life photo and I usually keep some on hand for the detail shots when I shoot weddings or things around the house.
I had this really awesome boudoir client (who I met here on Reddit actually!) and she wanted some pictures in her t-rex onesie drinking whiskey. We decided to wrap her in fairy lights just 'cause, and I was totally hooked. After that I picked up a pair of these guys from Amazon. They're compact and battery operated.
Yes, go back to IKEA! Somewhere near the end, around the lamps and ceiling lights, I found these cheap cable snake sleeves:

I also use these for cables under the desk after separating out of the snake and organizing under the desk:

And these are great for individual cable control:

I've added to and removed from my setup half a dozen times since I last organized my wires so they're a mess again, so be aware that it's a constant battle.
Edit: these look pretty good too, am going to get some myself if I don't make it to IKEA soon:

Depends on the size of your room. I put together a list to the best of my abilities:
Probably start with something like this. They're 3.5m in length, so should be enough for most ceiling to floor installs. Say you're trying to fill a 300 sq.ft at a foot's distance for each, so you'll need at least 280 strings for somewhat even distribution. So that's at least $3500.
Second, you'll probably want some sort of scaffold attached to your ceiling, so that you can have space to run wiring from controller to the various LED strings. 2 feet of triangular photo light scaffolding runs at about $100, so I'm gonna take that. You'll need a conservative 50 of them to cover your 300sq ft ceiling adequately. So that's another conservative $5000.
LED control can be achieved with any computer, a few arduinos, and a few addressable LED controllers. Call this another conservative $1000.
Finally you'll spend a considerable amount (100+ hours) of time figuring out how to control all of this programmatically in a way that makes sense. That expense depends on how valuable your time is.
So I would call it $10k for a basic setup in a 300 sq foot room.
source: I've set up some basic computer controlled LED christmas lights/scenes in my apartment.
edit: for added effect, get about 5000 ping pong balls, and cut holes in them to mount onto the LEDs to diffuse the light.
These are the ones I use! Command Outdoor light hooks. Shouldnt damage the wall (but for me it took off some of the paint on plaster so I would recommend being a bit careful when you move them off the wall.) https://www.amazon.com/Command-Outdoor-Light-16-Clip-4-Pack/dp/B00HCQUINY/ref=pd_cp_60_4?pd_rd_w=y12BN&pf_rd_p=ef4dc990-a9ca-4945-ae0b-f8d549198ed6&pf_rd_r=CSMSRRW0AZ6CNN2FZ68R&pd_rd_r=40ad4c4b-d9dc-4664-bc3a-0efddd6d7cf9&pd_rd_wg=K1wRp&pd_rd_i=B00HCQUINY&psc=1&refRID=CSMSRRW0AZ6CNN2FZ68R
Edit: with the warping, I would recommend using textbooks/something heavy while you wait for it to cool :)
I have this same set in a 65 inch with a Medialight LED bias light kit and these strips are easily cut down . Would have to ask the manufacture of yours what the steps are for doing the same but it should be able to. I used 3M Command clear plastic Christmas hanging clips.
They go on firmly but have a quick release pull tab attached to the adhesive strip for quick removal and I placed them in between every 3rd LED or so. I haven't even used the manufactures included tape behind the LED's because I want to be able to remove and move it for any future TV I buy.
I put the taller left side panel(front of TV left) back on the rear of my TV as 3 of the 4 HDMI ports and a single 3.0 USB port were still available just to the right of it and would give you a better pathway around that side of the set if you intend to cover 3 of the 4 sides. Here's some pics of mine.

I bought the hanging bulb sets from Costco that look like THIS.
Note: I'm not recommending that brand from Amazon the look is just similar (maybe the same thing??)
Then I added some LED light strips around my deck which have a cheap remote for different functions. I really dont use anything other than "on" so I never use that remote.

Nothing fancy, but wife loves it.

I have those lights and decided against putting them up in my apartment. Why? Because they are freaking heavy. Seriously heavy and are better strung up if you attached them along a wire strung along. The cord is super thick. They are meant to be outdoors. You see these lights on so many outside patios.
I put these up in my place instead. Warm light, way more manageable to string up, and look good.
See if you can 'enjoy' something from this list.

Happy Good Friday
I bought these two years ago and ended up replacing the bulbs with LEDs within 6-12 months as the incandescent Edison bulbs went out. Ours are about 3' over our visitors heads and light a patio excellently, with no dimmer. We regularly get comments about how the lights really add to the patio's ambiance. We are a seasonal ice cream shop and I lazily left them out over the winter this year and they still function great.

My home isn’t very humid, so my ivies tend not to put out roots at the nodes. I use these command strip clips for my pothos, and it looks really nice! You really can’t see the clips unless you’re looking super closely.
Rather than the Target brand bulbs, we ordered these commercial grade lights. Hopefully they can stand up to some stronger weather. Thanks for the input.
I used these

ok, this makes more sense to me. G40 is the large vinity style, but I kept finding them called G40s. I have some of these strands of lights. I think it says they're E12 socket bases. I believe i've heard them called candelabra base. I am making some letters for my cousins wedding. I like how the shape of the 2" bulb fits. It is all style though, I have some flexibility.
Here's a link to the string lights that I bought from Amazon. I've been really happy with them. I used 2 strands at 25' each and had to take out about 8 of them and tuck the extra string into the last pole. They're bright enough to sit out there with just them on at night yet they're not overpowering.
If you spend time out there in the evenings/nights, these solar lights are cool. They're best if they're in some plants or ivy. If you had a couple potted plants you can string these around. They don't throw off distracting light, just ambiance.
I have 100 feet of those LED string lights on copper wires plugged into an outlet and run along the upper moulding all around my living room and dining area.
Basically these but longer: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B014QMDRUC/ref=mh_s9_acsd_top_bFhWP_c_x_2_w/151-4304843-6498724?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=mobile-hybrid-5&pf_rd_r=YFN0P0560EM6K9R7S0A5&pf_rd_t=30901&pf_rd_p=0dec4a3d-8058-5d16-8720-b8a314088eb5&pf_rd_i=3742221

I love these pretty lights!
Although I was tempted by Pirate Fluxx too, but I already have like three copies of various Fluxx incarnations.
buy something like this and put the lights into the pots in bunches so they look pretty during the day and night.
Do you want/need the ability to change the colors? I feel like adding color changing with mobile control is a bit overkill here. A simple backing board with LEDs hardwired, an on/off button or switch, and a small cord to plug it into the wall would be enough. Even if you want to use an Arduino I'd still suggest plugging in into a wall instead of batteries, especially if you include some form of mobile link.

Edit: if you are not good with circuits I would suggest starting with something like this, a power supply ( the 5V one they suggest will work) , and an Arduino with a library that works with the WS2811. Plug the lights into holes on a firm thin board behind the planets and light them up or flash them with the arduino. If you don't like the big bulbs and can solder you could also just glue these to the board.
If you get that going then add the mobile control, or don't, later.
Get some of these command strips and run the cable along the ceiling or baseboards. Might wanna grab a box of ethernet cable and some crimp connectors instead of pre-made cables so you can get the exact length you need. The command strips will come off easily when you're done with the place so you don't have to worry about paint damage.
Run some cables to each part of the house and put up some extra access points. Old wifi routers will work fine for this if you configure them in access point mode. You can run multiple APs on different channels for better coverage. If you set all the APs with the same SSID and password, your devices will hop between them depending on signal strength although your connection will momentarily drop as the device switches access points.

I like the idea of hanging above on the angled part of the roof. I was thinking about something like this
Would these work and how would I affix them to the roof?
You can possibly use these.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AG923GI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, they are similar to what you have shown. I am just getting back into RPi, and arduino. I bought a string of these last christmas and they are pretty cool. They use the libraries that Adafruit has for the 2811 and another library but I can't remember it off the top of my head and I have to start from scratch I think I may have been using arduino for this, but Pi may work too?
I used TaoTronics LED String Lights 33 ft with 100 LEDs and 2 Pcs 3 x1.5V AA Battery Holder to make the lights. It takes 3 AA batteries and cost around $15 to make excluding shipping and batteries.
The lights them selves are waterproof and pretty durable. I primarily use the lights for cooking areas and around my tent.
(The last picture has a flash. The lights are no where near that bright, although they do illuminate enough)
We did lanterns with twinkle lights stuffed in them and a bit of dried green moss in the bottom of the lantern. Our favors were succulents from an Etsy shop and we used them as our "flowers" to brighten up the table (I did have to wrap them in burlap which took a few hours with two of my bridesmaids). We also used a mix of pink, white, pink/white, ivory silk flower petals from [another Etsy shop] (https://www.etsy.com/shop/RosePetalsEverywhere?ref=l2-shopheader-name) to sprinkle on the table.
Here's how they turned out!

Our small camp of 5-6 takes a somewhat different approach. Our lighting is primarily strands of LEDs with build in panel, battery, etc that turn themselves on when it gets dark (such as these). We also have a number of battery powered lanterns (like this). Takes like 10 D cell batteries, which have lasted us 2 burns so far and showing no signs of dying.
I also have a solar system for non-essentials (wifi, phone/radio/camera charging, swamp coolers). I've got a few panels off craigslist (although Amazon is cheaper, as I later discovered, $125 or so for 100W), combined with a deep cycle marine battery or two (from craigslist or Costco) and of course a charge controller (Harbor Frieght, Amazon... idk, mine came with my over priced craigslist panels) worked well for all of that. In 2014 things got kind of last minute, so we ended up using an inverter for AC power, which was extremely silly as everything we were plugging in promptly changed it back to DC, so in 2015 we got a couple of DC-to-DC converters to step the voltage up or down as needed, and never went to AC. A lot of the stuff took 12V DC which was handy.
That's just our setup, idk if it helps or is a terribly good idea...
Renting is hard to know without knowing what area you are in. I might be able to find some places in SF and Napa/Sonoma.

But these $20 jobbers should be fine in most weather and you can probably re-sell after the wedding. Also lighter / easier to hang.
https://www.amazon.com/Brightown-Clear-Globe-String-Lights/dp/B00RQHBZVS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1473461596&sr=8-1&keywords=market+lights
Knowing that there is no electricity at the campsite.. SOLAR POWER!!
At least thats what we did last year, and it worked great! We had little driveway lights all around our campsite so finding it at night would be easy. They were something like these http://www.amazon.com/Garden-Creations-JB5629-Solar-Powered-Accent/dp/B002X8X8UG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1426870944&sr=8-2&keywords=solar+powered+lights
And now I've discovered that amazon even has solar powered string lights! How cool would these be at your campsite?: http://www.amazon.com/INST-Powered-Ambiance-Lighting-Christmas/dp/B00KGOCRLA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1426870944&sr=8-3&keywords=solar+powered+lights
No electricity? No problem! Nothings a problem when you're in the forest ;) Also not the best video but here I am hula hooping! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qteA9AQQZs&feature=youtu.be
tell me about it. yeah sure.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L5C8GQM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I got the same one, too. It'll be here on Thursday.
For lights, I got these, because I wanted something soft and pretty and fairy lights just seemed right! I'm so ridiculously excited for it to get here.
Google-fu to the rescue: https://www.amazon.com/Brightech-Ambience-Outdoor-Weatherproof-Commercial/dp/B00K0VTVTA
Right - now that you mention it I remember you talking in a thread a few weeks back about making these
I don’t doubt that they’re indestructible. They look it.
Just sayin that these are pretty cheap and I’d be pretty surprised if you could find anything on playa that could damage them.
For example:
ALITOVE WS2811 12mm Diffused Digital RGB LED Pixel Light Individually Addressable Round LED Pixels Module IP68 Waterproof DC 5V 50pcs/set https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AG923GI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_0wH4AbPADN2FM
I really liked these lights.
These are the lights I used
The wire is really thin, so I was able to use these command strips with a clear backing every few feet.
These work fantastically...strip fits nicely in the clip: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SH2CDCG
[These] (http://smile.amazon.com/Command-Round-Clips-Clear-10-Clip/dp/B0084M6712/ref=sr_1_27?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1425533122&sr=1-27) look even more like op's.
Cool beans =)
As far as cable management - I am using a bunch of these: https://www.amazon.com/Command-Outdoor-Light-16-Clip-4-Pack/dp/B00HCQUINY
And a few other random bits and bobs under the desk, but primarily the linked command strip clips
Oh, sorry! These are the exact lights: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NXEB0W2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_MvB2BbP9EMFXT
I was using a TP-Link smart outlet (HS100) with them.
https://www.amazon.com/Backyard-Hanging-Outdoor-Pergola-Deckyard/dp/B00RQHBZVS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1487272029&sr=8-3&keywords=patio+lights
These are the ones I got. When I first got them they were extremely bright, a little too much for my preference but after a little while they have dulled down and have been much better.
You can use these:
Command Outdoor Light Clips, Water-Resistant Adhesive, Clear, 20 clips, 24 strips (AW017-20NA) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076ZM1799/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_G2miDb8ZVP3V9
Command strip cord clips: Command Round Cord Clips, Clear, 10-Clips (17017CLR-10ES) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0084M6712/
Can you lay them on the ground at edge of the dance floor? Rather than use traditional string lights, try these on thin copper wire. They are very flexible and can bend in tight angles.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GUDMO78?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00
Why not just cannibalize one of those solar powered patio lights? Everything you need is right there -- solar cells, circuitry, the works.
Something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/INST-Powered-Ambiance-Lighting-Christmas/dp/B00KGOCRLA
You NEED these fairy lights!!! How freaking cute!!!
They also have some that are made for chords, but they're a little more expensive. I'm guessing the ones the OP linked will do just fine though.
Yep it came as a set.
This the link to buy: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NXEB0W2?pf_rd_p=183f5289-9dc0-416f-942e-e8f213ef368b&pf_rd_r=WAKD0D0J98NRXJHZSGY9
Just use Command Outdoor Light Clips. $8 on Amazon.

Light up your camp without having to worry about batteries!
These are the ones that I use.
Tons of light and they don't hurt my eyes at night.
I got these from Amazon.
Here's my initial write-up on it. I'm using 12mm "pixels" (no endorsement, just first link I found on amazon) but I'm using a ws2801 version. For power, I'm now using four 3A power supplies, each with a battery pack of six shitty 18650 cells in parallel which means I basically don't have to worry about running out of battery in an evening out but I've got more size/weight in battery than I would have if I had built my battery pack out of better cells.
I've used the 3M Command clips designed for Christmas light.
https://www.amazon.com/Command-Outdoor-Light-16-Clip-4-Pack/dp/B00HCQUINY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1485452359&sr=8-3&keywords=3m+command+christmas+light

33ft of led waterproof lights for $18
Personally I'd just drape them across the ceiling or around the border of the room.
1000 of these: https://www.amazon.com/ALITOVE-LED-Individually-Addressable-Waterproof/dp/B01AG923GI
these were the lights we used
Get lights with their own built-in dimmer:

Many of the LED string lights are not designed to do this.

Got to my computer
Lights,

Clip,
and Metal loopy thing (prevents cable from rubbing though rubber coating)
Just need eyelets or something to attach it the cable to the posts.
I used these for under my kitchen cabinets.

This forum supposed to be for electricians of the type that do wiring for homes/buildings with outlets for devices. The sidebar also talks about rules for doing things compliant to code. Hacking together a battery tender (what is that 12 v and 2 amps?) to an extension cord isn't really what this place does.
However, couldn't you just get a long extension cable and use some 3m command hooks to run it up from a workbench, along the ceiling, and then dangle it down from the ceiling ? You can use a zip tie or one of those velcro cable ties to wrap the dangling end up in the air when needed.

If you don’t know how to drive the lights, get a micro:bit. And look up tutorials for micro:bit and neopixel.
You could try some 3M Command Cord Clips. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076ZT3FVN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Vp5PDbRGQ42VG
There are other addressable LED strips that will work as long as they are WS2811 based and 5V (like these: https://smile.amazon.com/ALITOVE-LED-Individually-Addressable-Waterproof/dp/B01AG923GI/ref=sr_1_4?crid=3UXGP0G50U2AS&keywords=ws2811+christmas+lights&qid=1570571218&sprefix=WS2811+christm%2Caps%2C152&sr=8-4 ).

The ones I linked in my blog were the only ones I could find with that retro bulb look though.
Probably forgetting some stuff but here’s a link to the lights in my room

These are the ones I picked up
Maybe this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AG923GI/ref=cm_sw_su_dp
purdy flower solar lights because shiny!
Maybe these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00NXEB0W2/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1511657747&sr=8-9&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=led+christmas+lights&dpPl=1&dpID=61InSf7u5sL&ref=plSrch#immersive-view_1511657798453
These will do it. Have them. Remote can set them to auto dim and come back on at different intervals

Use Command clips to channel them in paths that are out of sight.

Those LEDs are Alitove brand (on Amazon). They are currently powered by a BlinkyTape control board (on BlinkinLabs.
Here's more. https://imgur.com/gallery/msBY1sw My wife did all the artwork. I programmed the lights. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AG923GI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 using a raspberry pi zero, here's the source https://gist.github.com/nickadam/84a5ffc2d7f501b50ac5c887d8995a6f
The lights are individually addressable, so when they're hooked up to an Arduino, you can set each light to blink individually, be a different color, etc. I used this Arduino library and these lights.
We're camping, so a lot of the stuff is for that.
Dimmable Copper Wire lights
If you are going to have exposed wire string lights, I think you need to go with copper wire.
These are the exact ones I use. They charge in a few hours and will run for about 8 hours. They're bright enough to let you see your surroundings, and not so bright that they'll hurt your eyes.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0084M6712/ref=pd_aw_sim_60_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=KTRNC8D9FW691TE313RV
Hide any wires you can. Those you cannot, run them like a grid.
When I was little I called these bomb lights. It kind of stuck. :)

I am planning on powering it with an external power supply i bought, but again, confused on the wiring of all of it w/ the power supply
You could use non destructive cable clips if you want.
