Well, The classic knife is a Ka-bar. Having never owned one myself, I couldn't tell you personally how they feel, but I've heard only good things about them.
Perhaps not classic looking, but Becker makes some wonderful blades.

Blind Horse Knives makes some beautiful knives, some of which will be out of your price range, others which will not.
As for river knives, NRS makes one, and Gerber makes one. I'd go for the Gerber.
