If you're willing to wait a few months Amazon.ca has a Cooler Master Novatouch for around $200 CAD, I ordered mine a few weeks ago and it says it's shipping May 27 or something like that. It even has Amazon Prime.

Any reason why the NovaTouch TKL is so hard to find right now? Third party scalpers like these are starting to show up. B&H Photo Video said the board was discontinued? Is this true?

It's a topre board with MX sliders so if you have spare MX keycaps they are still useful.

Is the Novatouch's price in USD (235 CAD)? Amazon.ca sells it for $199 CAD + taxes brand new.

Topre keyboards are the closest I can think of. They're pretty much a crossbreed between MX blues and rubber domes, so you get the best of both worlds. Expect to pay a pretty penny, though. The cheapest Topre keyboard I can think of costs around $180(Though CM calls them "exclusive hybrid capacitive keyswitches"), and HHKBs (the most well-known Topre keyboards) usually cost over $200.

If you can't afford that, I hear that the MX browns give a tactile bump instead of the click that the MX blues have. The MX clears are the same type of switch, but they offer more resistance (Tactile force of 65 cN and actuation force of 55 cN, compared to the 45 cN actuation force of the browns). The KUL ES-87 offers a tenkeyless option (no numpad) with both MX browns and MX clears for $130, and for a full-size keyboard, the WASD CODE features MX clears for $150. I recommend getting a switch tester to see which fits best for you. I hope this helps.

Matias Quiet Pro is a good choise for both cost and the variety of boards. They're very quiet, not too expensive, there's a Mac version, they have a tactile feel and there is a 100% and a small version.

There's the Cooler Master Novatouch that costs a bit more, has a lower actuation force, you can change the keycaps later on and it has a TKL layout so if you're using the numberpad a lot, you should probably go for the Matias Quiet Pro. ¨

If you want the premium stuff there's the Topre Realforce boards. They are expensive, comes in regular 100% layout and TKL layout, there's a version where the keys on the board has different weights on them so from 30-45g. for better ergonomics, there's also a version that's a bit more quieter to believe it or not and it comes in black or white.

EDIT: Noticed that you wanted a small board, so the Matias Mini Quiet Pro and the G84 is probably the two best mechanical boards to get.

Just make sure the Storm says it has "CHERRY MX Compatible Key Stems for Keycap Customization " not all of them do. The good ones tend to be around $200 and the ones that don't are around $130. Any Storm that's cheaper won't be torpe.

Okay, so I just got a Ducky Shine 5 w/ blue switches. I am 100% sure your cube mates would string you up by your toes, so avoid blue (great for home though).

1st option - Novatouch TKL - I purchased a novatouch and put hypersphere rings on it. Without silencing, it is still pretty quite. So I would definitely recommend if you are looking for topre. I know you said no to mods, but it would hit right around the 200 mark if you also got the hyperspheres and less without. VERY nice for the office and it would not annoy anyone. Plus, if you decide you would like to mod down the road, it is a very customizable board that will accept all MX and Topre key switches.

2nd option - HHKB2 - I don't have one, but this will be my next purchase. It's $200, so a little expensive, but from what I can tell you are getting what you pay for here. It's not silent, but quiet. You can still do the same mod down the road if you are looking to make it even more quiet. They do have a type-s where it's silenced at the factory, but that would be closer to the $300 mark. One thing to really take note of and think hard about is the layout. You are definitely losing some keys, so you will be hitting the function key quite a bit. Not sure how that would effect you since you are a programmer.

3rd option - Ducky Shine 5 w/ Brown - The other option would be something like this keyboard. Full keyboard with all keys, RGB which you would probably want set to white or off since it's in the office. It will be louder since it's a MX, but brown should not be TOO bad. You will need to get some O rings though. That will help with sound dampening. Super easy to put on and nothing like the hypershere rings.

Take you time and if you have a microcenter close by, go try some keyboards out and see which one fits you best. Topre will be the most quiet, MX brown/Red/Clear will be mid level with o rings, and star away from blues/greens.

Amazon Italy has new in stock Novatouch keyboards for sale. I bought one for myself just over a week ago. They are in Italy ISO format contrary to what the product description says. It's not particularly cheap and the price has gone up in the past week, but it's new.

I'm confused. I thought the CM Novatouch was discontinued but Amazon is still selling them...is this legit??

A keyboard you enjoy using should encourage you to get better at using it the most.

For me it is Logitech G910's angular keycaps that make me want to type more accurately.

Topre is pretty decent for gaming I believe. It as the short actuation distance that people want from regular mechanical keyboards. At least it is good enough for CoolerMaster to want to make one.

Cherry switches wont work for you, the clack is going to be loud regardless of switch type and while O-rings help, they won't get it rubberdome silent. Even if they did, they really affect the feel of the switches.

Your best choices would either be Matias Quiet Clicks (a full mechanical switch with built in dampening) or Topre (a hybrid switch). For the Matias Quiets, your only real option for a standard layout model would be a Matias Quiet Pro although if you're willing to go 60% or sub-75% there are more options. Topre can be a bit pricy, but right now the CM Novatouch is on sale for a decent price.

1. How do I know what size the space key is on the NovaTouch TKL? It's a Topre switch but a Cherry mount which further complicates things.
   
   
2. I've never tried Topre before (nowhere in Australia had a demo unit) so there's a risk I'll hate this keyboard. Is there a common size that will work with a lot of other common /r/mk favourites as a backup if I need to jump ship to Cherry? Then I can sell whichever one I don't need on mechmarket :)

Probably a good idea. I would suggest the CoolerMaster one if you can, that one has Topre on it, which is a very high quality rubber dome, so if you want a mech to feel as close to your G11 as possible, get a Topre board. Something like the Novatouch TKL is fairly inexpensive when it comes to Topre (most boards are over $200) and has an MX compatible stem so you can use any MX keycap set instead of just using Topre caps which are few and far between.

This one is 45g and is not silenced. As for price points, one factor is licensing. The FC660C and HHKB both use Topre switches where CM uses their own NovaTouch. Another factor could be build quality, but I haven't reviewed the HHKB or CM boards myself, so I can't really be a judge.

However, the price difference isn't that much. Here's a FC660C brand new for $219. Compared to this NovaTouch for $163. Similarly, you can find the HHKB for around $220 if you shop around. Maybe it's splitting hairs to some, but less than a $60 difference is much more approachable than $100+ to most people.

Since you type a lot I would suggest you to get a CM Storm NovaTouch TKL. Everything on that keyboard is made for long periods of typing imo.

They are not CherryMxSwitches they are a Hybrid Capacitive Switches. A mix of mechanical and rubber dome switch.
