> I currently have an Asus... Something.

Asus Transformer? That's what I used while I was in school (couple of years ago) and I just recently grabbed a Surface Pro 4.

The official keyboard/type cover will not work in place stand, as the connector (where you hook it up to the Surface itself) isn't stiff like the Asus Transformer keyboard. It'll only stand up with the dedicated stand which can be a bit frustrating. I haven't had much problem with using the built in stand on my lap, though.

You.. you have a Type Cover 2 for a Surface Pro 3? Why don't you get the Type Cover 4? It actually fits the SP3 and the keys are spaced out.

If you actually are going to be using the touchscreen for notetaking, I probably would not recommend anything other than the Surface Pro 4. Most touchscreens are not responsive and accurate enough for actual note taking, and it's really only the Surface Pro 4 that is consistently known for doing it well.

Unfortunately it's quite an expensive device, with a version with an i5, 8gb of ram and 256gb ssd costing $1030 just just the tablet portion. The keyboard and Pen are only sold separately and another $113 and $45 respectively.

If you really want a stylus and tablet mode then the:

Surface Pro 4 + Type Cover $1299 + $129.99 = $1428.99

or

Surface Book $1,457 are the best for you with their great portability, decent processing power, excellent screens and useful touchscreens/styluses. The Surface Book is probably the best out of the two.

If you can forgo these things, the much more powerful:

ASUS Zenbook Pro UX501VW $1499 has a 4K screen, an extremely powerful processor, a 512GB SSD and a dedicated GPU if you ever change your mind about gaming. It seems this one of the computers with the display problems listed in the sidebar.

Dell XPS 13 Has a 3200x1800 touchscreen, ultrabook portability, and decent power.

Pretty decent deal at Staples right now:

Might have to pickup another one. 4GB of RAM works surprisingly well in Win10.

Add $87 for a type cover on amazon and a pretty great machine for under $700: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Type-Cover-Surface-Pro/dp/B0163H1HT6

Speaking from personal experience, I would go with this Microsoft Surface Pro 4.

I was in the market for a machine so my daughter could do her art without covering our house in the inane ramblings of an 8 year old, so I started digging into convertibles with pens. I finally settled on the SP4.

It's extremely lightweight, the magnet attachment for the keyboard and power are fantastic features, the pen is really great and accurate, and the display is absolutely beautiful. I really suggest the i5/8GB model, since you can't upgrade it, and I would suggest getting this UAG Case as well. I tested a number of cases first and landed on that one, as it allows the keyboard to snap to it without removing the case or having any other weird addition like the Otterbox one has.

Also keeping in mind that the Surface Pro Type Cover is separate, it is on the high end of your budget. But something that will last all day (in power saving mode), and be extremely easy to carry around with a good quality pen is well worth it.

$450? Does that include a personal full body massage? I got mine on Amazon, it still has a discount. i got it for $97 its $92 now https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0163H1HT6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 EDIT: This one has more function keys, my old one did not have the display brightness keys f1 and f2.

I believe Microsoft's official keyboard/cover for the Surface Pro 4 has a function key that works as both a toggle and a hold-down key:

> Well, its $1700 for the same i5/8GB/256GB configuration as the base MBP

Ok. Lets look at the stores shall we.

Base Mac Book Pro 13" is $1,500.

An equivalent Surface Pro 4 i5 model is $1,300. So $1,400 when you include the typecover.

Surface Pro is $100 cheaper. Same specs, and a much better screen. That machine isn't in the Black Friday deal (well, free sleeve). Compare the i7's and you see the same again. Surface Pro is $100 cheaper.

We traded comments elsewhere in this thread. I respect that you like Mac's. I actually like them too. They are lovely machines. But lets not lie about costs here. They do cost more than an equivalent Surface Pro 4.

$80 here for some reason, but worth it to pay $40 more for the fingerprint reader?

I was looking to see if the new type covers were any better, but I saw so many of them on Amazon and wasn’t sure which was the right one.

Is this the latest one?
