I think a lot of people might get confused (like myself), but I think there was a newer version of these that came out not too long ago:

Grey is also on sale for the same price
EDIT: Amazon also has the Black version now for the same price. If you go to Used & new they have a Used - Very Good for $183.99 as well.
Recent hot deals on these have them going for $300. At $230, I'm picking these up and will see how they compare to the Bose Q35.
There have been reported issues with the headband on a specific production run of these, so I would make sure the serial no. you purchase is not one of those affected.

Sony MDR1000X
> If you do, take a look at the Bose QC 35's. They seem to be the most recommend, but I may be wrong. Do some research of your own.
The QC35 is strongly rivaled by the Sony MDR-1000x which many seem to feel sound better as well so if money is no object these two pairs might be the best for active noise cancellation.
to make things even more difficult, I've also heard good thing about the Sony MDR1000X/B.
Ahh, yes, sorry. I had the X switched around. I believe these are the ones I have. https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Cancelling-Bluetooth-Headphone-MDR1000X/dp/B01KHZ4ZYY/
Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but Sony's 1000x BT headphones support LDAC and they are ~$450
A headband issue? These ones do? https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Cancelling-Bluetooth-Headphone-MDR1000X/dp/B01KHZ4ZYY/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1504203733&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=sony+1000x&psc=1

I have the Sony's MBR 1000x. Pricey, but worth it.

No headphones isolate that well, even using noise cancellation. I’ve seen people modify those types of gun range headphones though.
You didn’t state a budget, but the Sony MDR-1000X has the best isolation when taking into account active noise cancelation being on and off, and it also sounds good.
No, I'm almost positive that you're correct. Anecdotally, my Sony's are almost as good at drowning out sound than normal over-hear sound protection. I guess my main point was that even they are better than nothing at all -- even 'quieter' power tools can harm your hearing at some point. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
