I'm just going to upvote you and paste my comment here

I've had Plantronic's Gamecom 780 headphones for over a year now (purchased April 2013) and they're still going strong. When they break, I'm getting another pair.

It's a usb headset, with mic, and costs £45.

Alternatively, get yourself a decent pair of headphones (several linked in this thread) and a clip-on mic like the Speedlink Spes Clip-On Microphone (£7)

Also, ITT: headphones and headsets massively over OP's £45-50 price range

You need speakers or headphones, preferably both. I have tried various combinations over the years and I have settled on the following combination:

  1. A decent but not outrageously priced set of 2.0 speakers. I tried more expensive setups including surround sound and 5.1 but I never got proper use out of them because the acoustics of the room I game in are poor and I live with others so I cannot turn up the volume. Be wary of wireless speakers, the small but perceptible lag can drive you crazy. I have just noticed the Creative Gigaworks T20 are on sale right now. I recommend them. http://en.europe.creative.com/p/speakers/gigaworks-t20-series-ii

  2. The best set of headphones you can afford. I personally am biased against "gaming" headphones and I opt for a nice pair of Sennheisser cans. The sound quality if far better than I could ever get with speakers and I don't annoy my family when I storm the beaches of Normandy at full volume.

  3. You need some method of swapping between speakers and headphones without having to plug things in and out. You can get software to do this but I find that software switches often don't work when you are in the middle of a game so I use one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000WCNF2G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  4. Finally if you are into multiplayer gaming you will need a microphone. A gaming headset will have a built in microphone but if you opt for Hi-fi headphones you will need to buy a separate lapel microphone. This is the one I use: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004YEWC22/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Thanks. I think I'll just buy a mic, something like this... no idea if those are enough or not, but they most likely are.

One more question... is the computer bluetooth version or the headset bluetooth version that matters? Or are both of then (the lowest/oldest version)?
I'm asking this because, as far as I know the newest BT version (5.0) has a lot more bandwith, so maybe that will no longer be a problem in devices with BT5.0 right? But both devices must have it.

I suggest buying some real headphones and a mic. for the headphones Sennheiser Hd 202 as for the mic maybe this

u/ShearMe · 2 pointsr/headphones

With such a low budget and with being in the UK, getting headphone that matches your requirements is rather difficult. Desire an attached Would you be mic, and it's impossible.

Would you be open to considering a clip-on mic if you knew you could get much better sound from a separate headphone? If yes, you could look at the Koss KSC75 or PortaPro (same drivers) for a good open option which;ll help with soundstage positional ques. For a more full-sized option, Superlux makes great cheaper headphones, but none that are fully open.

It would definitely be an advantage for sure. For a brand new baby channel you probably don't need that fancy a mic, I just use a £5 mic ( This one to be precise ) . It's got a crazy long wire so I just dangle it in front of my speaker. The real key to it not sounding like arse is going into Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Recording > Then the mics properties and turning down "microphone boost" to 0db (or +10 if I'm playing quieter). It totally removes peaking and I think gives a respectable recording, at least for us bedroom jammers.

I have been looking into getting a better mic recently but I don't think I'm gonna go through with it. As far as I can tell its gonna be at least £180ish. Wanted a Shure sm57 (or 58 I cant remember) but then the audio interface so I can use the damn thing really bumps the price up. Also not sure my Vox VT is worth a professional mic rig.

Heyah,

I got headphones for Christmas, it doesn't have a built in mic so I have a few options.

I could return the headphones and exchange them for a cheaper headset and some store credit or pay a tiny bit more and get a more expensive headset [option 1, option 2] (really looking for 7.1 here).

Or I could buy a separate microphone to use with the headphones I already have (mod mic is way out of price range ). I was thinking maybe pick up a clip-on mic [another example] or try and find a microphone that plugs into my existing headphones (they have a detachable cable) [example, but a bit more expensive than I'd like]

Does anyone have any experience with any of the products I've posted or any knowledge on microphones/headphones? Specifically, I would like to know whether clip in mics pick up a lot of background noise.

Thanks in advance for any help :)

edit: Sorry if this is the wrong subreddit for the question, I realise it is more aimed towards a microphone than headphones.

I have an €8 mic that seems to work fine. I use my Sennheiser HD650 as the main audio output while playing games.

Here's a big list of stuff I'd recommend on top of the fantastic list /u/metagrim gave. I've been watching your videos for awhile:

Try posting your videos to the HEMA Alliance (and other HEMA) page as much as possible without being annoying (it's a fine line).

Interactivity is key; comment on other HEMA pages and youtube channels, not self promoting, just comment a lot.

post videos often, once a week is a bare minimum, at least two is optimal. It'll keep you in peoples minds if they regularly see you in their feed, also it makes your channel look more full. Post interesting tidbits, history facts relevant to HEMA. You can expand your content without loosing sight of what your channel is about, most popular hema channels are well rounded.

also production quality is really important, I'd recommend having a consistent place and angle you film from, camera facing straight at you from a couple of feet away (there's a lot of wiggle room, but just not too close or too far) and make sure to avoid this angle

I'd also seriously recommend a microphone! even something like this is fine

Also remember it can just take a long while for this to really happen, I'm sure you know that, but still

You're channel has a lot of potential and I really want to see you succeed. Whenever you're unsure remember you've got me as your number one fan rooting for you!

Hello. I'd like some advice on choosing a new headphone.

  • **Budget** - about 100 - 200 Euro.<br />
  • Source - custom gaming/programming PC
  • Requirements for Isolation - nothing special, for home and quite environments.
  • Preferred Type of Headphone - full-sized
  • Preferred tonal balance - not so sure, I guess overall balanced pair
  • Past headphones - Logitech Digital Precision Headset
  • Preferred Music - I will use it for gaming, movies and music like this playlist (movie/game/trailer music) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5XPxWx8dlM&amp;amp;index=1&amp;amp;list=RDk5XPxWx8dlM
  • Location - Europe, I will be buying it from Amazon.de.

I used my previous headphone for about 5 years and I was pretty happy with it. It had a good microphone and sound quality was decent. However, it lacked build quality, I didn't like the open headphones and I don't want a "back head" headphone again.

The Audio-Technica ATH-M50x (BL) seems a good option? I'd also like a microphone for chatting. It doesn't need to be a very good one, a decent one will suffice. How about something like this: http://www.amazon.de/Speedlink-8691-SBK-01-Spes-Clip-On-Microphone/dp/B004YEWC22/ref=pd_cp_ce_2?

    Thanks!

Had one of those (it broke), a fried even 2 or 3 (all of them died eventually). We all switched to This one: Speedlink Spes Clip-On Microphone. In my opinion the speedlink one is much better.

u/Doniu · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

dont u have to be close to it to sound normal? i use one of these

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Speedlink-SL-8691-SBK-01-Spes-Clip-Microphone/dp/B004YEWC22

would never spend such an amount of money for a microphone. £70 for a blue snowball on amazon smh

u/yenaeh · 1 pointr/audio

&gt;or your going to need a clip on mic[2] same as they use for news shows

I tried this but there was just too much background noise for my liking.

u/Shrenade514 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

It depends if you'll ever be listening to music.

If you're looking for good audio quality then the Sony MDR-ZX660AP sounds amazing (blowing any gaming headset audio out the water), and has a great soundstage (directional audio). It's advertised as on ear but in reality it's very close to over ear, and for my sister it's fully over ear.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00U5WUOWW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_0FigAbDXECKJB

Combine that with a Speedlink Spes Clip-on mic or Zalman ZM-MIC1 Clip-on mic and you'll have a very flexible headset + mic setup.

Speedlink Spes - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004YEWC22/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_sIigAb53RXECX

Zalman ZM-MIC1 - Zalman ZMMIC1 Lapel Microphone https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00029MTMQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_kJigAbHBRWBRY

I also use the headphones with a audio/mic splitter, which makes the cable much longer than the 1.2m it comes as (quite short) - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B073ZDDTH2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_LMigAbNDFHZRY

The one I linked is quite expensive for what it is, but it looks very sleek and you could always buy a splitter/extender that is longer and cheaper.

u/blujaffa · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

seriously trust me, you can get i decent pair of headphones and a mic you can clip onto ur shirt or the headphones themselves for very cheap

u/awesome-face · 1 pointr/headphones

Budget - $200 Preferred $250 max

Source - Desktop PC (with Realtek Audio), PS4, HTC one (for now)

Requirements for Isolation - None, I will be using them mostly in my room

Preferred Type of Headphone - Full-sized

Past headphones - Various $30-$50 IEMs

Preferred Music - I listen to a lot of metal like this, this and this. Also some soundtrack style music (technically more similar to movie trailer music) like this, this and this. I also listen to a lot of rock, electronic, alternative, hip-hop, pop, R&amp;B, and country.

These will be used for both listening to music (Primarily on my PC but probably a little on my phone/mp3 player) and gaming on my PC and PS4. Even though the time will probably be spent about 50-50 (Music vs Gaming) I want the priority to be for the music listening experience. If there is a built in mic (that would work on the PS4) that would be a plus, but not a necessity.

I was considering the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x. They seem to be good value for the price and a good entry pair of full sized headphones (I also like the look and removable headphone cord as well). Also with a price point of just over $160, I can get a clip on mic like this and still be under budget.

I am open to any recommendations, let me know what you think!
