If you want something that's a clear step above cheap headphones in sound, and looks damn good. the [V-Moda M80] (http://www.amazon.com/V-MODA-Crossfade-On-Ear-Noise-Isolating-Headphone/dp/B005HSDLCO) isn't a bad place to start. You can find them secondhand in nearly perfect condition for under $100. Usually new for around $140.

The Roku is a killer little media box; I have the Roku 2 XD and stream Netflix and Pandora on it.

The 3DS is a nifty little handheld gaming device. Games will add on to the cost, though.

It's summer time and the Vornado pumps out an incredible amount of air. I have a couple of them and rarely turn on the A/C.

For the Audiophile, there's the V-Moda M-80 headphones. They're essentially the best you're going to get.

The Raspberry Pi is a mini-computer that is growing in popularity for a variety of different functions. Check out youtube for some of the stuff people are doing with it.

Have you considered the V-Moda Crossfade M-80's? They sound perfect for what you described. You can pick up a pair well within your budget on Amazon.

u/ithinktherefore · 3 pointsr/headphones

With that wide range of genre's, I'd recommend the V-Moda m-80 (on-ear). I wouldn't exactly call myself an audiophile, but I'm VERY particular about my headphones. I got these about 3 months ago and have been loving them. MSRP is $230, but they go for $150 on Amazon.

They have a really well-rounded sound, which makes them a decent set of cans to use across different genres (my collection is as eclectic as yours; on a given day, I might go from Sinatra to Green Day to Skrillex). They took a little breaking in, but they are comfortable enough to wear for a few hours. In terms of isolation, I find them quite adequate on a train commute, though I'll admit that they might not be the best on the subway (by no means are they unusable — I've used much worse). FWIW, they are "semi-closed." They are designed to isolate, and the cups are made of memory foam, but they do have a small vent. Leakage, somehow, isn't a problem at all.

If you aren't a fan of on-ear, you can wait for the V-Moda m-100. Same sound profile, but over-ear. They're rumored to cost around $300, though.

u/Efflux · 3 pointsr/headphones

I am a huge gamer and also have a bit of a thing for headphones as well.

If you want a pure gaming headset, I can recommend the Logitech G35 USB headphone and the Astro A40's with Mixamp. The g35's have better sound isolation but the A40's have better sound quality.

You can also try Vmoda's m80/m100 with the detachable Boom Mic (sold separately) accessory if you want a great headphone that can also be used for gaming. The boom mic attachment makes it into a solid gaming headphone. I use my M80's as my everyday headphones for commuting and such.

ALSO if you want to go all audiophile like, you can pair any headphones with a mod mic.

I have not tried the mod mic personally. The rest of the above I own, with the exception of the M100s, if you have any questions.

> Enough to block out a noisy classroom, but not a huge concern for me

> Closed and over-ear, and I need to be able to comfortably rest them around my neck

> Punchy and deep bass, but not overpowering, clean highs and mids, and just overall balanced.

Sounds like V-Moda M-80. The bass in them is just spot-on. They're $176 on Amazon now, but they can drop to around $150. I bought mine for £121, so yeah…

Watch Tyll's review to get hyped.

Edit: Uhh, in the title you said "on-ear", but in the selftext there's "over-ear". There's V-Moda M-100, but they're out of your price range.

u/shazzam6999 · 2 pointsr/headphones

I don't like throwing out recommendations, but the V-Moda M80s are another pair of cans to consider. They're in your price range and can be comfortably powered by an iPhone.

u/Immiscible · 2 pointsr/headphones

Hey there, I think that the perfect headphone for you would be the V-Moda M100. They're a bassy headphone that are incredibly durable and comfortable. They're just under your price range at $300, so if you want something that doesn't break the bank as much there's the cheaper V-Moda M80, also a bassy headphone that's half the price, but the sound quality is noticeably worse. Both are certainly great headphones and are a pleasure to listen to.

u/dolichoblond · 2 pointsr/headphones

Fits with sound, but man I would not want to try to pull those out on a plane. That cord is as heavy as checked luggage. Even the coiled cord is going to take up more room than you want.

VModa Crossfade M80 is a good on-ear choice at the top of the budget. I know it plays well with portable sources without an amp. Isolation is great as is comfort, even for on-ear. Detachable cord is good for travel, and the case is relatively flat, even if not as tiny as the M100s fold.

Over-ear bass-fix can be had with the Ultrasone DJ1 Pro (rounded headphone cups) or the [DJ1](ultrasone dj1) (oval cups, among other differences that I can't recall right now)

Shure 550DJ and 750DJ also deserve a look.

Don't get me wrong, love the ATHM50s but I hate cramming their cord options into a school/work/ and especially a travel bag. I guess check out Sound Professional's modded M50 if you like those reviews best.

u/ITzYerBoi · 2 pointsr/headphones

V-moda M-80 are a great choice considering your price range. They are very durable and they sound excellent. http://www.amazon.com/V-MODA-Crossfade-Noise-Isolating-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B005HSDLCO

I'm a bit of a geek myself when it comes to headphones and iem's.

There are a few pairs out there that many consider the greatest bang for the buck:

  • I got a pair of Sennheiser HD25-1 II myself. They work great, sound nice and will probably outlast me in quality. They've been recommended by most parts of the audiophile community for ages.
  • V-MODA Crossfade M-80 was very recommended when I was looking for a nice pair myself. The build quality is superb and so is the audio.
  • Sennheiser HD 600 is one of the most well knows and well recommended pair of open ear headphones out there and they are for a reason.

A tip is to check out a few big reviews on Head-Fi
(full size) to find a pair you'll probably like (but remeber to take peoples personal opinions with a grain of salt). I find that finding a personal pair is half the fun.

The horrible (and wonderful) thing though, is that there is not "one size fits all" when it comes to headphones. The best you can do is get out there and try them out. You should also realize that a nice pair of headphones is only half of the equation. If you're only using them with your iphone, you're missing out.

    Happy hunting!

Get the audiotechnica ath-m50. Wont regret it. >1. So first of all I'm normally pretty frugal, but now that I've been drinking qutie a bit I"m willing to splurge on headphones.

>
Right now all I have is an old pair of mrd Xb-300's, as far as I can tell they're not necessarily an audiophile choice even in the price range, I've looked at the buying guide and done some research and would like to hear your personal opinion on the headphones I'm stuck between. As a preface I'm a pretty hard bass head, EDM music and CoD video games, so here's the headphones I'm stuck between Denon 1100's, V-MODA crossfade M-80's, or the Sony MDR-XB600.

>

>So any input would be awesome, the faster the better, cause I'm drunk, once I'm sober I'll be questioning why I spent so much on headphones.

>
Edit: I have the money, I'm not strained for cash, I'm just frugal as fuck.

u/Capolan · 2 pointsr/BuyItForLife

save a bit more and get a pair of M50 Audio Technica. I'm not a huge AT fan, but those are really good. If you don't mind "open" headphones - Grado SR60i is the headphone to beat in that price range. Grados are awesome but they are "open" and others can hear your headphones...

save EVEN more and check into some Sennheiser 25 1 II -- the number 1 DJ headphone on the planet, and fully replaceable everything.

Save more than that and you are in a whole new price point where there are tons of choices. after senn 25 1 II I really like what I have at work - Vmoda M100. Serious bass, and they sound incredible.

Headphones are a tricky one because, it can get CRAZY expensive very quickly. There are headphones in the 1000s of dollars...so it comes to "what do you want to spend"

you can often find good buys on those 25 1 II -- and those are very good. The M50 - also excellent. Weirdly enough the unit that is a step up from the 25 1 II, the Amperior - the older model (the blue caps) is selling for less than the 25 1 II. if you see the amperior cheaper, and you want the 25 1 II, get the amperior.

I would say this: if you have the money for the Marshalls, wait a bit longer and save more to get a much better pair.

So giratina12 recommended the same one to me, I tried it out at Best Buy, and decided to buy them on Amazon later. They're essentially a more compact, much more improved version of these, (I gather from online reviews)

http://www.amazon.com/V-MODA-Crossfade-On-Ear-Noise-Isolating-Headphone/dp/B005HSDLCO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1406165710&sr=8-1&keywords=v+moda+80

This is 110 dollars (pick the 1-button mic option), but there's a newer model M100 for about 300. It's up to you, I never had a problem with on ear vs. over ear (over ear is slightly more comfortable and a bit more isolating, but it doesn't matter as much). I really like the form factor for these headphones, the style and the sound so it's cool.

Also Opeth's pretty cool.

V-Moda M80s perhaps, currently 160$ on Amazon, good bass and meets all your needs.

I've got these headphones that have no mic built into them http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005HSDLCO . If I buy and use this cable, I will have a full blown headset where I can hear game audio and chat, and also be able to chat both ways correct? http://www.amazon.com/V-MODA-BoomPro-Gaming-Headset-Headphone/dp/B00BJ17WKK

This is all based on speculation, but I don't think that the LGA 1150 socket (the socket that the i5-4670k uses) is going to be around for a long time in comparison to the socket used in the more upgradeable build (LGA 2011).

The i7 used in the LGA 2011 build is going to help improve performance, but it isn't going to make a big difference in gaming. However, I would say that the LGA 2011 socket is going to have better longevity, if that's what your after.

Other than the CPU and motherboard, the primary components of both builds are pretty much the same. You have your motherboard. In the i5 build, the motherboard is good enough to support overclocking quite well, as long as you aren't too extreme with it. In the more upgradeable build, the motherboard is also good enough to support overclocking, but the CPU will not be overclockable due to it not being an Intel "K" variant.

The SSD I have included is pretty much the best SSD on the market right now, and you have 128GB of it. That's pretty nice for storing your OS and programs that you're going to frequently access. The Hard Drive is for big data and files like Music and Videos.

The GTX 770 is the second best single GPU card out today. It has the best price:performance ratio of any card and will ravage any game.

The Corsair 650D is one of the nicest mid-tower cases out there. It isn't massive, but it isn't small either. It has a nice window so you can see inside. If you want, get some Logisys cathodes to light up your case for a quick mod that makes things look cool.

The monitor is a decent budget IPS display. If you want to focus more on the monitor, I can shift some of the budget to it. It has a pretty nice bezel.

It's finished off with a nice set of steelseries gear. The 6gv2 is the nicest mechanical keyboard I've used, with the exception of possibly the das keyboard. It doesn't light up, have extra buttons, or have any other frills. It's just a really nice mechanical keyboard. The mouse is the sensei [raw], which is a slightly lesser version of the sensei, but it's all you need. It has an ambidextrous design, which some of the right-handed people don't like. Just thought you should know that.

The last part is the gaming headset, and this is the reason why there's a sizable chunk of money at the end of the i5 build. There wasn't enough money to put in a GTX 780, overclocking, AND headphones. I should let you know that I don't believe in gaming headsets. A high-end gaming headset approaching $100 is essentially a $20-30 headphone with a microphone attached to it, sold at a large markup. It's all hype, and most people buy into it. The best solution is a nice pair of cans with a clip-on mic. I'm partial to the V-moda Crossfade M80 with this zalman clip-on mic, but on-ear headphones may not be your thing. The M80 has nice bass that is perfect for video games. Let me know.

That said, if you're dead set on a pair of gaming headphones you can't go THAT far wrong with a Logitech G35 or Steelseries Siberia V2. You just aren't getting what you pay for with the sound quality.

Budget: $100-ish (pretty flexible, maybe $160 at most if it's really worth the extra)

Source: IPhone 6 and my laptop, just spotify premium

Requirements for Isolation: Closed

Preferred Type of Headphone: Full-size over ears

Past headphones: Skull Candy Hesh 2... I know, I just wanted a pair of over ear and I never really researched any of this

Preferred Music: Rap

I would like something a little more bass heavy, I really like to feel the music. Preferably something that looks pretty slick, but I would rather have sound quality and comfort over looks. Additionally, I always have issues with the cord on my headphones weakening over time, so I would like something with a removable cord, but I would assume that's a given on a higher quality pair.

I was taking a look at these:

http://www.amazon.com/V-MODA-Crossfade-Noise-Isolating-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B005HSDLCO

But the suggestion I found them in was over two years ago and it looks like they've been discontinued, but I can still buy them. This was suggested as a nice alt to the M50s with heavier bass, and I'm just looking to see if theres a better option after two years.

u/DeliciousTea · 1 pointr/audio

The Crossfade LPs are not well-regarded for their sound quality, while the Audio Technica ATH-M50s are easily the most recommended headphones on this subreddit.

If you like the Crossfade styling but want sound quality comparable to the ATH-M50, you might give the Crossfade M80 a look, though it is a bit higher in price.

u/Cattycake1988 · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

Racking my brain for good on ears for $150 was rough as that price point among on ears is a tough nut to crack. Here are some suggestions.

Sennnheiser HD1 on ear: https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD1-Headphones-Apple-Devices/dp/B01MR84GU1/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=sennheiser+momentum+on+ear&qid=1558323631&s=electronics&sr=1-3

My experience with these is actually back with the older model Momentum on ears but from my understanding, the changes they made when these were known as the Momentum 2.0s and then rebranded to the HD1 were all ergonomic. Using the IOS controls on android just means the Volume +/- buttons don't do anything, but mic and center button should work well enough.

V-moda XS or M-80

https://www.amazon.com/V-MODA-Folding-Design-Noise-Isolating-Headphone/dp/B00GO4GMAI

https://www.amazon.com/V-MODA-Crossfade-Noise-Isolating-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B005HSDLCO

Definitely flashy, so sorry if that is a hard and fast disqualification. The XS replaced the M-80 but the M-80 is definitely still competitive. M-80 is a tad more V-shaped sound signature wise, with the XS being more neutral while still retaining very pleasing bass. Edit: Also, the XS fold in on hinges and so can take up less space when transporting.

All of these retailed for much more when they debut, and I think would blow the doors off anything more recent that premiered at the price these are selling at.
