Maybe a Vaultz lock box? They sell them at Walmart, if you live near one, so you could check them out in person. I'm pretty happy with the brand, personally.

Saved my ass when a cop couldn't get a warrant for it. $12 saved me jail time. I assume, if the same situation arose with this book, it would be the same.
But it's obviously intentionally hidden if it's pretend in a book like that. Would that give a cop more reasonable cause to get a warrant and search it?

I use this personally. I have a much larger safe at home but use this for my take homes. Works perfectly and at least at my clinic they accept it even though it's a dial lock and not a key

It's a Vaultz brand pencil box like this one. I got a couple of the clear ones, and they make an awesome display, although I'm not in the habit of displaying silver.
Each one holds four 3D printed inserts for either bars or rounds/coins.
If you end up deciding that you don't want access to it, you could ask him to keep it in a little combination lock box like this one
I use this and then inside I put my weed in these also holds my grinder, one hitter glass pipe and collection of lighters.
You should also get a lockable storage case. I bought this one to keep my toys from prying eyes.
