All are well under $200, and come with free shipping. IOW, you gotta look in the right places! I love Amazon for this stuff, prices are excellent and usually shipping is free (sometimes you have to have Prime but that is relative rare.)
I've used these before when I had an F-150 with a rack on the cap. It made reaching things easy, but I'm not sure it would help you get on the roof. A side ladder would run the risk of being torn off on a narrow trail, I believe that is why most are on the tailgate.
