pack layers and you can shed as needed: heres my layout
Base Layer:
I try to avoid cotton stuff cause of chafing, highly recommend exofficio if thats an issue.
runner leggings/thermal leggings
long sleeve work out material shirt/ thermal shirt
smartwool socks! smartwool is the best. I use it for backpacking too.
Second Layer:
arctix snow bibs from amazon : 40 (You want snow pants/bibs. getting snow all down your pants/up your back is awful.)
A flannel or other heavy shirt type
Third:
I have wantando jacket (70 from amazon) reeeealy warm. Hardly have worn it out and its been like 10-15 on the mountain. Id imagine I could wear it down to zero.
A lighter waterproof jacket incase the heavy jacket is too much.
Gloves: Get some nice waterproof insulated gloves and glove liners.

If you got all of those youd be fine an any resort park
Thats not even a "shell", thats just a nylon athletic pant you wear to pick up your prescription from CVS. Any snow pant is going to have a "shell" so to speak, all you need is a base layer and a snow pant. If this is the exact setup you have, then if it works for you, thats fine, but if were giving out suggestions to someone with nothing, i'd just suggest a base layer and an actual snow pant like this:

I wear these much more affordable jeans and wear insulating base-layers like UnderArmour ColdGear underneath: http://www.amazon.com/Mens-Bikers-Kevlar-Jeans-Motorcycle/dp/B00YHOQM8E/
I break my own rules a bit and tend to leave the armor out of those jeans though I've been meaning to replace with my d3o inserts. Get a few pairs of these so you can cycle through more frequently without worry of stinking them up.
It works great and I've got no problem on 40+ minute rides. For even colder weather I wear a rip-stop ski-type apron or bib to help cut further on wind and insulate even more. http://www.amazon.com/Arctix-Performance-Overalls-Tundra-Visibility/dp/B00KPLEVHW/
artic bibs
Was on sale when I bought it. Reviews say the stitching is bad near the crotch. As snowboarders we don’t do the splits when we fall so that helps. My cold tolerance is high and for me it’s warmer than I expected.
