You've mentioned riding a bike; may I recommend the unicycle?

It's a bit hard getting started, but once you start figuring it out, it feels GREAT.

The big reason that I mention it, though, is that it's something you can do alone that is also a way to meet people - if you want it to be. Someone gives you shit, and you can smile at them and not say anything - you're on a unicycle, what are they going to do about it? Someone thinks you're awesome, but you don't feel like stopping to talk.. so don't! You're on a unicycle!

It's also a pretty good workout, and way more fun than running. And it's cheap to get started - I've bought two on Craigslist, and paid 50-75 each time; even a new one isn't that much, at 120 or so bucks.

It's actually surprisingly hard to hurt yourself (no fall will be worse than stepping onto a stair when you thought you'd be stepping on the floor when descending, unless you tangle your feet up in the pedals, which you get a feel for pretty quick).

TLDR: Ride a unicycle, thank me later.

I bought this one (Avenir DLX Unicycle https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001V662XQ/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_OHLxub03GQ0S5) and I'm happy with it. I've only had it for a month, though, and I can only ride it a few feet. But I'll get there!

It surprises me that people in a circus club wouldn't be all about learning the unicycle. It's super fun to learn as long as you're not easily frustrated.

Everyone always suggest Torker but me and my friends have gone through 3 of them and not one held up to a day of muni i think your better of with one of these 20" 24".

Idling on a 24" and being able to stay relatively in the same spot to be able to juggle at the same time is going to be extremely challenging. You definitely want a 20" freestyle unicycle for your goals.

Do you have a source for this? I see Nimbus, Kris Holm and Impact on Amazon, and at least this Nimbus Unicycle ships from somewhere besides unicycle.com (I assume that's what Unicycle Shop is since the logo looks the same).

> They sell only quality unicycles so it's not all bad.

Agreed, and they have fairly reasonable prices too.

I recently bought one of these. http://amzn.com/B001NGD5HK

It's pretty decent.

I would recommend the LX model instead of the CX. The seat on the CX is a brick in comparison.

u/escrocs · 1 pointr/unicycling

Had a Sun, that was pretty flimsy and the rim broke soon as I started to learn how to hop. I have a 20 in. nimbus and I couldn't be happier! Unless of course I had the bank to buy a Kris Holm uni.

what I had

what I currently have
It also does great off road

If you are serious about buying a unicycle, I would recommend purchasing one that you know you will use in the future, instead of buying a cheap-o and end up growing out of it in 3-6 months and wasting your money. Then again, you may find out that unicycling isn't for you and regret buying an expensive you. It's your call.

seriously?

you want someone who has no experience on unicycling to spend over 300 bucks when they don't even know if they'd end up liking it or stick to it?

u/thisalone · 2 pointsr/unicycling

24" avenir dlx that I learned on. Soon to be owner of a nimbus 29" road unicycle. Can't wait to ride it. :D (edit: formatting)

u/archamedeznutz · 2 pointsr/CringeAnarchy

This is what I found under unicycle training wheels.

This looks like a cyco cycle type device.

This screams hipster affectation, not fun transportation.

u/unnaturalpenis · 4 pointsr/unicycling

avoid this one, it does this

tho, 26" fucking rocks, I'll never go smaller, except with my 16".

u/absynthinwonderland · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Aw. That really sucks. I tore my meniscus when I was younger. It's such a pain.

Is a unicycle strange?
