when i bought my resistor there was the plug and about 4 inches of wires coming with it. (for my 96, not sure if for 97+ they changed something)
i think this was it: https://www.amazon.com/Dorman-973-441-Blower-Motor-Resistor/dp/B00FOOV9E8 (again, I don't know if it's the same plug/resistor for 97+, make sure of that first)
have you replaced your blower motor recently (edit: just re-read your post and you already said that, sorry)? the stock one is usually the culprit when the wires start melting and you go through resistors every couple months. the bearing is getting old and offers more resistance, so the circuit gets hotter trying to turn the motor over and ends up melting at the resistor (and also at the blower switch).
once i replaced my blower motor I never had an issue and it's been 2 years now. before that I'd replaced the resistor 3 times I believe.
