Ok, not a whole lot of options here. Looks like they used the door to hide the issue previously so they didnt have to deal with it.

The approach I would likely take is to continue the rounded trim pieces all the way down the edge using either a 90degree corner (gap filled with caulk) or a 3 piece corner (smaller gaps). Something like this: https://www.finehomebuilding.com/2006/11/02/trimming-round-corners the link is for doing baseboards around a rounded corner but if you pretend the tub is the rounded corner of the wall, the same idea would apply. Of course I've never tried cutting tiles to the exact angles like this (I'm not a pro, just a diy homeowner.

I'd likely also take those pics down to a tile shop to see if they have suggestions.

That model in OPs post doesn’t use batteries and certainly doesn’t control water flow. We have one in our shower as well.

One of the first ones that comes up when I searched Moen Posi-temp tub shower trim kit on Amazon. Also one of my favorites.

The brand, 8" center. is 8" center; 99% of 3 handle tub valves are 8" center.

To be honest, I only install 2 and 3 handle tub/shower faucets if it's impossible to use a single handle faucet in it's place due to scald protection code.

That’s not the correct finish, it’s just the first one I found. I think you have chrome.

What about something like this. A claw foot tub kit then you don't have to worry about the drywall.

Trim kits are also available in tub shower combo with everything above the tub line. example

The shower head can be installed with a channel lock pliers, teflon and a rag to protect the trim. Tub spouts are usually threaded or o-rings.

The drain and overflow cover are the only real tricky part but can be done with a pliers and a #2 phillips and either silicon or plumbers putty depending on the tub material. So a cost of just over $10 on top of the trim kit.

We use the one below. These aren't big but they will hands down improve the pressure coming from the head and you can turn water pressure up or down too. Stay away from the big heads, they use more water.
