I'm a college student, so I totally understand buying cheap stuff. Here are some of my personal finds.

I bought these cute rain boots for myself about a year ago, and they've held up well! They come in a lot of patterns; I have the argyle plaid just because I like plaid, but the polka dots are cute too. :)

I have this scarf in red. It's super warm and comes in multiple colors. :)

I'm pretty attached to my phone, so I have these gloves. I love the knitted pattern, and it's a must for me to still be able to do stuff on my phone while I have gloves on.

I have some heated purple slippers (battery operated) from Sears, and they're really nice since my floor is wood. I have my eye on these adorable slippers though because they're just so cute. I love food with cute faces on them. :D They're kinda pricy though.

Also, Hot Hands are a savior. I would buy them from Walmart or Target; it's cheaper, and you can get however many you want. These kept my hands warm when I was outside in freezing temperatures from midnight to 10 am!

  20. SIGH. I'm terrible with "favorites" questions. This one no this one no this one should be my motto. Or that one or that one or that one. Can't decide.

Edit: after almost an hour of hunting down this list, I forgot to include the raffle phrase! Happy happy cake day! :) Hope it was a good one!

Hello, I went to Peru and the Amazon rainforest for 10 days last year and bought a bunch of gear from Sierra Trading Post. They were having a crazy sale. I think you should look out for those sales. http://www.sierratradingpost.com/ Like others said, I bought a lot of quick drying shirts that wick off sweat. I have to say that those were life savers. We hand washed our own clothes and they were dry the next day, and also helped us not get too sweaty during the long hikes. Get a rain jacket that you can easily roll up and pack into your backpack. In general, I haven't seen any that are figure-flattering, but you can compensate that with a cute color or print. It's better anyway so you can layer it over your clothes. Maybe something like this? http://www.sierratradingpost.com/white-sierra-junket-rainwear-jacket-waterproof-long-for-women~p~3730d/?filterString=womens-rain-jackets~d~599%2F&colorFamily=03 I got these hiking boots: http://www.amazon.com/Timberland-Womens-White-Ledge-Mid/dp/B000KB8KTM/ref=sr_1_1?s=shoes&ie=UTF8&qid=1394236911&sr=1-1&keywords=timberland+hiking+boots and they were awesome. We hiked through rain, some mud, slippery rocks, and these had good grip and my feet never got too tired. I wore wool socks with them. Get some water shoes for kayaking, you can find them for cheap at Walmart. Maybe $10. For pants, I got hiking pants that you could roll up to capris. I could roll them up when it got hot, or roll them down when there were mosquitos. There are also the ones where the bottom zips off. I know they are not the cutest, but they can be a Godsend. For a hat, I wore a visor. I think if you want to look cute, you're going to have to go for the sporty cute look, because if you try for anything else, you probably won't be as comfortable, given all the activities you plan on doing. I myself looked ratchet during the whole trip because I was too tired everyday to care, lol. I'm not sure what the humidity will be, but here is a hint. Pack all your clothes in ziplock bags, or else they will get wet! It also helps with space too.

I've been looking at leather bags and the Kate Spade Jackson Street Quincy hobo looks nice (https://www.katespade.com/products/jackson-street-quincy/PXRU9421.html) though it costs close to $280 tax included. I prefer pink but it goes with less outfits. If the leather is as dark as in their site as opposed to Nordstrom's where it the lighting makes it look like dark grey, I like the dark leather contrasted by the gold lettering and zipper. There seems to be conflicting opinions on how Kate Spade purses are these days and it's more confusing with the recent acquisition of Kate Spade. Nicole Glass said she's looking to improve the quality of the leather, and I'm assuming that means the 2019 stuff is supposed to be better? The main bag I like in 2019 collection is Margaux Satchel (https://www.katespade.com/products/margaux-medium-satchel/PXRUA161.html) though it looks more plain. I do like the look of the inside more on this one. I prefer the aesthetic of Kate Spade things, even if people tend to say Coach has better quality leather.

Anyone know any other brand that has an aesthetic like Kate Spade? I know of Liebeskind, but their designs tend to be too plain for me. Madewell's tote is well known but I'm not really looking for a tote. I'd like to be able to fit Time magazine rolled up (10.5 in length) if I have to go to the DMV or something, but I'm not carrying laptops and groceries in it. Really prefer to keep things below $500, ideally $300. I'm going to go to a Kate Spade store next week to see how the leather feels to my hand.

Also, looking for comfy leather riding boots that look like these in size 10.5/11:

Boots: I have Raynauds so I have a lot of opinions about boots and here are all of my recommendations:

  • For walking around when it's cold and/or icy but not a lot of snow on the ground and you need to look vaguely professional: Blondo Varta These are insulated and extremely waterproof, like totally dry feet after walking an hour in the pouring rain. And they have enough treads on the bottom that they're not slippy. I wear them almost every day in the winter and am a huge fan

  • Taller and great (this is a link to one random pair but I think you can still find them somewhere else in more sizes): Ugg Evanna. After 2 years, these started occasionally leaking a little if I walk through actual puddles in them, but aside from that they're quite good.

  • For when it is fucking freezing and there are giant snowdrifts and you don't care if you feel like you're in a spacesuit as long as you're warm (sold out right now but they come back periodically): Carrabasset snowboots

Face and head: I think the best is a knit hat with an inside fleecey part over your ears, like this. I wear glasses, so I usually don't cover my face because they fog up, but sometimes I use a buff.

Warm underlayers: if you don't mind spending money, merino wool ones are lovely. They are $$ though so I mostly wear Uniqlo HEATTECH all over my whole body and would definitely recommend that.

Also you didn't ask for this but Darn Tough socks are A+. And if your hands get cold, buy a giant box of hand warmers and keep them in your pockets.

I wanna invest in a pair of rainboots this year I think. Problem is, are there any comfortable ones? I have my hiking boots, but they're not exactly waterproof as much as water resistant, which has served me perfectly well prior years, but if we get anything like last year, I think rain boots are more appropriate.

Suggestions for comfy rain boots? Any success with insoles? Or should I just dish out for a better pair of hiking boots that'll withstand the elements?

Edit: I buckled down and got these hiking boots >.< I had some amazon rewards to spare.

For anyone else looking to get some decent boots, these get great reviews. Not 100% waterproof, but reviews seem to be encouraging.

I've bought soooo much lately!!!! I'm currently trying to transform my style from a slightly-less-twee Zooey Deschanel look to something more glam rock. I looove crazy colors, patterns, and fabrics, and I'm trying to add more edgy accessories to it.

Amazon Purchase:

  • Everyday Boots: I have basically the same exact boots from last year, and I wear them everyday, so they're just a replacement since mine are falling apart.

    H&M:

  • 2 long cardigans (one black, one light gray)

  • dark gray v-neck sweater that I can't find a link to

  • Circle Skirts (purple, gray, black)

  • Plaid Skirt

    Forever 21 Purchase:

  • Faux Fur Vest: I usually avoid F21 like the plague, but I'm obsessed with the new pink fur trend and wanted a cheaper version since it's sure to go back out of style again soon. I figure since it's not something I'm gonna wash, it can't really shrink or fall apart, right? Right?

    Modcloth Purchases:

  • Coach Tour Dress in Houndstooth: Given the reviews, I'm slightly disappointed it isn't as flattering as I thought it would be. It's thankfully slightly longer than I thought (I was scared it was going to be too short over my huge ass), but the waist comes up higher than my natural waist, which is a little weird. I guess I'm bustier than I realize. I'm still keeping it because the neck accent is awesome.

  • Sapphire Velvet Dress: Oh my gaawwdd yesss! The color is gorgeous and I didn't even realize how much I needed velvet in my life. I wore it to a party with a leather jacket, lots of necklaces, a choker, and deep red lipstick. It was great.

    Top Shop Purchases:

  • Choker: I had to add 2 extra loops on the back of the chain to be comfortable, but I keep getting compliments on it. The new 5th Ave store is going to be the death of my wallet.

  • I also got a 3-layered necklace that I can't find online anywhere, but here's a few selfies I took over the last few days with my new stuff: http://imgur.com/a/9oqNM

I also bought that deep berry colored lip stain (Stila Aria) which looks darker in person and brings out the green in my eyes.

I plan on buying studs and turning one of my mom's old black denim jacket into a studded vest, and I have my first appointment to go blonde in 11 days! I'm going to do a golden blonde with dark roots like Demi in case anyone is wondering.

Uhhhh, I think that's it for now? I'm still looking for more necklaces/costume jewelry and vests for layering, so if you know cool places (especially in NYC) to check out, let me know :)
u/damnit_blondemoment · 2 pointsr/vikingstv

I'm making mine! I'm going to be Lagertha, SO is going to be Ragnar. My throw-together costume isn't going to be show-exact, but I'm pretty sure my group of friends will know exactly who I'm playing.

After shopping around online, actual Vikings costumes run a damn pretty penny - and I only have ugly ones. So, I'm improvising.

This corset and this bolero are my choices for replicating Legertha's tunic-type shirt/sleeves and her armor/vest. Bracers I'm still working on, but I might end up making them myself. I might find a tunic or large brown/tan t shirt and chop/adjust it accordingly to have the bottom coming out of the corset to mimic the tunic since I've not been able to find a good actual tunic top that I like.

These boots were too adorable to pass up, and then I have brown leggings as well.

My company that I work for receives supplies on pallets, so I'm getting one or two to break down and fix into a shield. Painted, of course. Throw a few brown belts on my waist, though the corset that I'm buying actually has sufficient buckling.

And then there is her sword and sheath, which I'm still pondering.

Finished up, of course, with youtube tutorials on Lagertha's hair style. I like that one just because it's easy for someone who doesn't do a lot with her hair very often. I think I can manage this one.

As far as for my SO and being Ragnar ... that's a whole different ballgame that I will be sorting out and figuring out on what to do starting this weekend!

u/crispytot · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I tend to like clothing that is a bit more on the simple or plain side, because then it makes it really fun to accessorize or mix & match pieces, so a lot of my choices reflect that.

I think this dress is super cute and lacey/witchy.

doc martens are the perfect edgy shoe you can wear all year round! The dark glossy cherry red color is super pretty too.

These pants are really cute and are a super lightweight material which makes them nice to wear in the spring/early summer/early fall. There are also similar ones in a plaid print that I looooove.

This dress/skirt is super freaking cute and comes in a couple of different colors!

These shorts have a witchy vibe to me! Plus, these type of shorts are the BOMB during the summer.

My brain is tired & I can’t think of a pun right now 😭

u/ellamew · 6 pointsr/FrugalFemaleFashion

I have some similar ones from Charlotte Russe that I purchased last year that I really love. Here's one that's kinda like mine/the one you want on sale right now. As a note, I have average width but short legs, as well as /slightly/ wide feet. They were all about $25-40 per pair depending on the heel (chunky heel was more) and how close toward the end of the season sales I could hit. As a warning, their shoes have always either been a huge hit or absolute miss for me, but all of their OTK boots have been hits for me! Can't say for how durable though because I don't wear them that often, but they feel like overall decent quality. And note, always google for promo codes wherever you buy it if you do so online.

I also bought this one off Amazon two years ago that I also love EXCEPT I just looked it up and realize that it's by the Ivanka Trump company and I suddenly don't feel like advocating that purchase even though I love it and find it amazing comfortable.

Edit: Forgot to include that I know Forever21 also has <$50 OTK boots but I have never bought them so I can't really say how good they are, but I've always found F21 quality to usually be meh (minus the miraculous outliers).

Looking for ankle boot recommendations. I'm specifically looking for something to wear while on vacation in Europe that is both stylish and functional.

What I'm looking for:

  • Heel should not be flat, but no more than 2"
  • Good footbed support, bonus if insole is removable
  • Good traction
  • Ankle height
  • Waterproof would be ideal, but not absolutely required
  • Prefer Leather, but again not absolutely required
  • Price I'm flexible on, but preferably under $200
  • I prefer greys, dark greens, and burgundy as color options as they are more versatile than black or brown, but again I'm flexible
  • Something from an outdoor brand, but with a more stylish look would be great.

I ordered these and I really like them, but the leather wrapped heel is a deal breaker for me. I've had leather wrap heeled boots before and the leather chips and peals and looks like garbage.

TL;DR: I MACGYVER MY SHOES

So this might seem counterintuitive but hear me out. I buy xero or merrel or keen in lightweight minimalist style 1/2 to one size too big, and then I build up the soles.

I have a slight leg length discrepancy (left leg shorter in femur) and this is what got me started thinking this way.

For the lefts I use a 1.5 cm solid heel lift and glue it down to actual base of shoe after removing insole. I then cut various liner materials to fit using insole as pattern. I have so far macgyvered 5+ pairs permanently as follows:

  1. Camper beach sandals: rope sole and leather straps.
These I loosened/detached the toe strap and resewed them about 2 cm tighter for both feet. (Because shoes larger size/ toe strap not adjustable.) Sewed a deerhide backing onto underside of both toe straps. Created a wool felt heel lift and attached this and covered with deer hide at heel. Sounds clunky but my heels are hidden behind leather pieces that have ankle straps at the top. This was first DIY shoe remodel and was very fun but time consuming (hand stitching through leather, hello carpal tunnel mega spaz).

  2. Merrel boots ( Merrell Women's Encore Kassie MID Waterproof Fashion Boot, tan, 9.5 M US https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078NKP121/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_nOR4CbGEM6J9S)

Bought 1/2 size larger (7). I just glued in a 1.5 cm flexible heel lift on left and added one layer of boot liner cut to fit under both insoles. These my fave so comfy boots. Can walk in or stand. They dont yank ankles, feet fit snug with thicker wool socks or cool and loose in thin ankle socks.

  3. Various sneakers: have built up left sole with various materials and shoegoo/ gorilla glue: old yoga mats, mouse pads, silicone hot pads (kitchen), cardboard of various weights, thick wool felt and once, spare sorel winter boot paks which are like 3 cm thick springy wool felt.

  4. Bogs rubber mud boots. I live in AK and mud on all the things always (or snow, ice, sand, etc). These are HEAVY but somehow the design plus wool socks keeps the weight suspended from my calves rather than the ankles. I like the added sturdiness here for tromping about in forest or on beach. These have left side lift glued to bottom of insole and a gel liner on top, both sides. Makes them snug and hard to get off but super safe feeling on my feet.

  5. Poor quality or dress shoes: I am 5'2" 140 lbs 45yo woman. Have ruined my poor feet which are ultra flexy. I finally got rid of all heels, pointy toes, hard soles, and any pair that "make things worse" or that I'm just not comfortable in. This endedup being all my dress shoes. I now buy ballet flats similar to tieks style, wide toe box, flexible and bouncy/grippy sole types. Then as above I create better conditions for my own comfort.
Faves now are xero wool grey lace ups, (Xero Shoes Pacifica - Women's Minimalist Wool Shoe - Barefoot Inspired, Zero Drop Sole - Charcoal https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H2PJZXG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_I8R4Cb79KD40G) they go with my super minimalist Alaska mom wardrobe and can wear with black tights for dressy events.
I also have a silver pair of leather ballet flats I slip a heel lift in with double sided tape ( I wear 2x/year lol)

I'm late on this post so I don't know if anyone will see it, but I love this question so here are mine:

Black Frye Melissa Lace-ups. I wear them constantly during the ever-autumn Seattle year, the laces mean I can make them fit my narrow calves, and they get tons of compliments.

Merrell Shiloh Cuff Boot. My near-perfect travel shoe (I don't love being able to see the laces at the bottom of the cuffs): I can walk in them for hours, they look good with skinny jeans/leggings/tights when it's cold or dresses/skirts when it's warm, the laces mean I can loosen them for an extra sock layer, and the zipper makes them easy-off for airport security.

Shellys London Celee. I adore these, as they're funky, tall, weird, and a little sexy while being the most comfortable heels I own. I wish I could find another pair for when they inevitably wear out.

Locals Women's Black Strap Slippa. I got these at Longs years ago after my old ones wore out. I don't use them often, but they remind me of home.

Thicker tights last longer in my experience. Also putting them on the right way helps too. Gathering it all up at the toe and pulling it up your leg instead of putting them on like pants. I also make sure to take of my rings before putting them on and use the pads of my fingers and avoid the nails. This all sounds more complicated than it actually it. Just little things I've learned from tearing way to many pairs of tights. It's worth it to invest in a pair of thick, spanx brand tights. My pair of spanx tights have lasted 2 years. It's incredible. My sister even got a pair thats reversible, grey on one side and black on the other. Crazy awesome. I try to pick up a pair if I see a good deal or a cool pattern whenever I'm shopping. I've lost good tights, but I try to keep rotating them enough that I'm never too crushed when an awesome pair gets a run. J Crew and Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters all tend to have sales at the end of each "season" and I usually swipe a couple pairs half price or off.

I'll see if I can find the boots. I bought them on amazon a couple years ago. I couldn't find my boots but these ones are all similar. Mine were just super cheap, and I don't use rainboots super often so it worked out pretty well. But these styles are what I was talking about.

They are rainboots that don't look like the typical hunter boot, or bright yellow wellies.

Hope this helped!
