Most: Native Instruments Komplete 9 Ultimate. The website describes it as a vast range of advanced synthesizers, pristinely sampled instruments, and pro-quality studio and creative effects. Essentially it's music production software that I have an extreme desire to buy. But it's simply out of my price range for the forseeable future. I have a boring but steady office job that keeps a roof over my head and feeds my baby daughter, but my dream is to create music for TV, games and movies. This would let me produce truly professional-sounding music from home. Videos like this and this as well as demo tracks like this and this give an idea of how powerful this software is. But at $999, it truly is the wishiest of products on my wish list.

Least: A car air freshener. I do love a nice-smelling car. Mine doesn't smell bad per se, but any 12-year-old ex-smoker's car just smells very 'meh' after a while, especially sitting out in the sun. But most days I just drive to the station and back, so while a new air freshener would be nice to have, I can do without it.

Waiting for: Songs In The Key Of X: Music From And Inspired By The X-Files. As you might gather from my name on here, which is an X-Files reference, I'm a big fan of this seminal TV show. Songs In The Key of X is one of the first CDs I bought as a spotty tween, but tragically I gave it away to a friend never to be seen again.

One the world could do without: Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, 1.5-Ounce Packages (Pack of 6) I've never had this seminal American snack, and I'm told they're delicious, hence it being on my wish list. But I think the world could probably do without less junk food (and I certainly could).

While I simply cannot live up to the nerdy creativity of SometimesImSadToo, here's my contribution. Sorry if it's a little sappy.

This CD or these kingdom hearts pendants are the most patriotic items on my list. Not because they are, of themselves, patriotic items, but because they're the two current items in my wishlist titled 'boyfriend'. Even though he's a dumbass sometimes (he has that whole smart person with no common sense thing going on) and he drives me nuts, I love him. And I had to make a big choice when we decided to try to make this work.

At the time I lived in Columbus, OH. I love my hometown, I loved my friends there, and while I loved to travel it had always been home. I had to give all of that up and any hope of living there again for a long time because BF is in the Air Force and stationed 1200 miles away. He's about to finish his first 5 years and sign up for another 5 because he plans to stay in the military for most of his life. We're going into this fully aware that in those next 5 years we'll be moved again, he'll be sent overseas, that he can be sent off for weeks or months with no warning. That after 2 years (and at least one more to go) of living in a place that's been bad for my health, has made it very difficult for me to work, and caused some major strains on our relationship. But, in the end, he's proud of his job, he's proud of his service, and he's even proud that he'll be serving his time while deployed. And I am so proud of him and while I do my best to take care off him and us, but it sucks sometimes that I can't get him a gift or anything which is why I'd really love to be able to get one of those items for him.

Thanks for the contest, and happy 4th of July!

Moon Safari by Air is awesome. Super warm, loads of neat samples and tones.

Tycho has many amazing songs. This is just one album but I really love his stuff.

Raising Your Voice... by Hammock is one of my obsessions. Just amazing, trippy, vibes. Wonderful laid back vocals (if you can call them that!) with smooth guitar. Helios is very similar.

Far Away Trains Passing By by Ulrich Schnauss is amazing. Again very laid back and relaxing, wonderful soundscapes.

Opalescent by Jon Hopkins is highly recommended! Soothing sounds for almost any chill occasion.

  1. This grey shirt!
  2. The guys on this CD cover look like falling drops of rain. Plus there's lots of water.
  3. Japanese Green Tea Kit Kats!
  4. My mom was so impressed with the wigs she got me that she wants one of her own.
  5. You've probably read this classic but it's my favorite book. Even from a non-romantic literary standpoint, it's genius.
  6. How about an MP3? No shipping lol
  7. Terry Pratchet is probably the most hilarious writer ever and if you've ever owned a cat, or love cats, this is just amazing.
  8. These nails. They would actually be annoying to wear but they're so cute!
  9. Oldboy. Perfect action/revenge/mindscrew movie. It's so captivating and well done. I haven't met anyone who didn't like it.
  10. Instant fire starter. One way to get rid of the undead is to burn them to ashes and this spiffy thing will light you a fire in a jiffy.
  11. This sewing machine. I've always wanted to make my own clothes because there aren't enough cute US styles. Most fashions these days are more sexy than sweet. I'd make a boutique for feminine, cute, Lolita, Gyaru, and Gothic styles. But first I'd have to learn how to sew, haha.
  12. FACK. And it sounds so good too!
  13. Sewing Machine from before for the same reasons
  14. ICE CREAM MAKER
  15. Gold studs are super tiny
  16. Vanilla Boubon Extract. Yummmm
  17. Kitty Stealing Coins :3
  18. Need to know how to make lunches for school, don't I?
  19. Hime Gyaru Wig. I'm getting more and more into Japanese fashion. My goal is to look a little like this.
  20. Majestic. Classy. Daring. Beautiful. So many uses.

    fear cuts deeper than swords

This was so fun to do! :D

  • So many to choose from, good lord... I think I'm gonna go with Daniel Bedingfield's album Gotta Get Thru This. When I was in high school, I had a major crush on a guy in my class. He was a good friend of mine, and I asked him out only to get shot down because he apparently really wanted to date some other girl. We were still close all through school though, and we still talk occasionally. Anyway, he used to drive me around a lot since I didn't have a car, and one night on the way to get dinner, he played this CD. "If You're Not the One" came on, and that was the moment I realized how much I really cared for him. We listened to this CD a lot together after that, and now every time I play it, I wonder what could have been. He's definitely my "what-if" guy.

If I win, I'd like Daft Punk's new CD on my $11-$25 playlist if a physical album is okay. If you'd rather it be digital, then Our World Underground, Where Are You Now? on my MP3 list would make me just as happy. <3

  • This will so not be right at all, but all I can think of is "Truly, Madly, Deeply" by Savage Garden. I'm old. XD

If I magically win that part, any MP3 off my list would be awesome.

Thanks for a super fun contest!! :D

Sure thing!

Bass: By far the most immediately noticeable difference. The notes that fell into the lower register were thicker when coming through the Mac. I'd call it fuller, but that often comes with the connotation that it was louder or became more overwhelming, which was not the case here.

Imaging: Whereas before I could pick a general area for a particular sound's "source" -- center, off center, at the speakers, just inside/outside the speakers -- it had now become a far more distinct imaging (e.g., the drums sound like they are right there, the piano is a few inches above that). The one negative point I found however, when listening to Portishead's Roseland NYC Live album on the Thorens was that the audience applause fell much further into the background. Perhaps that is a more accurate reproduction, but I missed it sounding like I was in the middle of the crowd.

Mids-Highs: Where I really took note of this was while listening to Queen's A Night at the Opera. Freddie Mercury's voice was so so much more present. As I cycled through a few other songs with power vocalists on them the experience with Queen held very true across them all. High notes were also very tight.

Range: This took a little more to notice, but once I did, I was in love. It seems that my Marantz' internal amp had been cutting off the extra highs, and the extra lows. I was hearing things higher in the upper register, and lower in the lower register -- and to no insignificant degree -- than I had ever before. It wasn't like hearing the bass note extend out a hair lower, I felt like I had gained an entire new frequency band on both ends.

Tone: Here's where I'm a little mixed, and it's something that I never thought I'd be mixed about. The music reproduction was surreal in its accuracy, which is what I always imagined to be what I wanted. Even though the MC250 was tuned to be a more warm tube-like solid state amp, I began to understand what people mean by MacIntosh being almost sterile. I only got the sense of this a few times, but it was there, and was enough to make my ear to ear grin, when considering the other benefits, slip ever so slightly. However, with this sterile accuracy, what I lost in warmth and that certain je ne sais quoi, I was able to gain through hearing absolutely every damn thing that was happening when they recorded whatever track I was listening to. The prime example of this came from a run through of Dave Brubeck's "Take Five" (If you haven't heard it, stop reading and go listen. . . now). Not only could you hear the saxophonist's breath rushing through his instrument (something which I could hear before with the Marantz), you very literally could hear him place his lips on the reed, and when his mouth would release from it just before taking a breath. I half expected to be able to discern his heartbeat. Whatever you wanted to hear on the track, it was there, and easily isolated by your ears. Listening to old favorites quickly became a game of listening for things I didn't hear before, then zeroing in on it to find out what it was.

Overall: Holy SHIT!

TL/DR: With a Mac solid state, you lose a bit of the warmth and je ne sais quoi that comes with a great tube amp, but in exchange everything is fuller/tighter, and its accuracy would let you hear if a fly shits in the recording studio and enjoy it in its full sonic brilliance.

Here's an overview of the setup I used:

He releases a lot of his stuff a few songs at a time so you can sample him that way, but your best bet is to get is compilation albums where he puts his most recently released songs and some other songs as well.

Coco is quite good: http://www.amazon.com/Coco-CD-Set-Parov-Stelar/dp/B002TSMIII/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1367796538&sr=8-1&keywords=parov+stelar+coco

They have slightly different feel to them, but i'm sure you'll find something you like :)

Different spins on your favorite Justice songs, with the vibe of the crowd as an added bonus. Pretty sweet.

I'm a major sucker for packaging, and I have to say that Washed Out's Within and Without is one of the classiest things I've picked up in a while.

If you're at all into chill-wave, I'd recommend this record. Most are pressed on white marbled vinyl (which, yes, can sometimes be a quality issue), but trust me when I say that it plays as smooth as butter. Here's a little sampling of what to expect. If you like that, you'll love the rest.

|name|Sylvan Esso|
|about artist|Sylvan Esso is a Durham, NC, USA duo of vocalist Amelia Meath and electronic musician Nick Sanborn. Their début was the double A-side 12" Hey Mami / Play It Right (16 Jul 2013), featuring a capella and instrumental versions of each song. Meath’s powerful voice is front and center, unjoined by fellow harmonizers as it is in her folk group, Mountain Man. Sanborn, who plays bass in the genre-destroying Megafaun, creates intricate, pulsing grooves for Meath’s voice to inhabit. ([more on last.fm](http://www.last.fm/music/Sylvan Esso))|

> Telepopmusik

Less electronics, more minimal in sound, and yes darker; basically every song is resolutely in a minor chord, and only flirts with major chords briefly. Portishead has a reputation as being 'depressing music' because of this, from certain people who don't look to music to reflect more complex emotions that 'happy-pop-dance-party-anthem!Vol.3'

A lot of sampled film scores, sampled heavy drum beats, some organs, small amount of turntablism, all held together by Beth Gibbon's very distinct voice. The note about 'sampled film scores' is really something I didn't realize for a long time, but lends a lot of their tracks to feel very recognizable upon first listen ('Sour Times' for example sounds like a too-cool James Bond theme that was never used - https://youtu.be/rtv7PWIrHUs )

Oh, this live performance exists, where they have a orchestra... its got some great moments:

It's got to be said, the live Justice album and the live Knife album are both superb- they use the concert hall accoustics and crowd noise to build an atmosphere. Actually, more I think about it, the more examples of brilliant live albums I can come up with.

I'd give anything to hear the live version of Harry Collier singing "Feelin Good" on the latest Faithless tour- so so so much better than the studio version with Dido

I found it being sold on Amazon by a 3rd party seller in the UK. There were actually several, it looks like there was a repressing of the 2012 re-release. This seller had the best feedback and I've heard from several others that they're legit and don't produce bootlegs.

EDIT: Here's the link to the Amazon listing I found:

Wow, that's a great find. 'The Journeys by DJs - Coldcut' mix is one of my all time favourites. Check it out.

u/djfrodo · 6 pointsr/AskReddit

There are a lot out there. Tribe and De La Soul are obvious...after that I'd say Steinski, Coldcut, or Jurassic 5.

As for specifics,

Steinski - What Does It All Mean?

Steinski - Nothing to Fear

Coldcut - Journeys by Dj

Jurassic 5 - Quality Control

Jurassic 5 - Jurassic 5 EP

And finally, one of the best uses of jazz and hip-hop:

Digable Planets - Blowout Comb

Definitely check What Does it all Mean? and Journey by Djs, they will change the way you think about Hip-Hop and pop music in general.

u/Shappie · 1 pointr/treemusic

Excellent song. Also a very huge fan of Glitterball. In fact, the entire album is just gold. Machine Says Yes. I'll be listening to it all day..

It is relatively new but I love Daft Punk's Random Access Memories album and I'm actually planning on buying on vinyl.

Songs in the Key of X: Music From and Inspired By the X-Files. It's terribly uneven, but it was the first cassette tape I ever bought, and I love it.

u/revmamacrystal · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

While the song you've mentioned DOES make me happy, so does "Move It" from the Madagascar Soundtrack.

Well I'll be Daft! I feel elation and always move to it.

u/captainrex · 4 pointsr/DaftPunk

I decided to use slower shipping from Amazon for the vinyl in the hopes that AutoRip will be available for it on release (it will!), so it won't be arriving until next week.

Though I guess that means I'll have two digital copies now, if the vinyl comes packaged with one as well.

u/ThrillSteak · 1 pointr/vinyl

Right now the 4LP version is cheaper(28.40) than the 2LP version(29.15) on amazon canada.

Do you think they'll honor it?

u/dontbeamaybe · 3 pointsr/electronicmusic

is this version on amazon.ca not the one you speak of? it's been out for a while but definitely appears to be a re-issue

But you were just talking about purchasing Random Access Memories as a vinyl, which will run you at least 25$ currently. The phono preamp will cost you around twice that. Not to mention it looks like you'd be okay without an extra sound card, seeing how your motherboard has a Realtek ALC898 chipset, which is rated for input and output up to 24/192.

I used to have an X-Files CD that had that on it, and that was one of my favorite songs from that disc. This is the one that I had, I believe.

Daft Punk's Random, Access Memories please!

Is it ok that I post the link of the album from my wishlist since I dont have flair?

Edit: fixed link to mp3.

So I just ordered it from Amazon. It's says in the description that it is a 2012 release? But maybe Amazon is wrong. It may be the new release as it won't be available for shipment until Aug 16. What you guys think from this link? Better off going through someone else besides Amazon?

Order it from amazon.co.uk for £30.30 (and like £5 shipping) which is $38 ($7 shipping)

You can get it from here or here. In one of the past threads someone confirmed with an Amazon representative that the package sold on Amazon was the same one as the one linked by the Random Access Memories website.

My favorite Flying Lotus album. Sounds sooooo damn good on vinyl. I got it for $30, but you can nab it for cheaper on Amazon!

u/turtlebait2 · 2 pointsr/Music

$40 for vinyl is fairly average I'd say.

And I found it on Amazon for $29 so no need to complain :) http://www.amazon.ca/Daft-Vinyl-Random-Access-Memory/dp/B00C061HZY/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1368475242&sr=8-4&keywords=vinyl

When you're buying European music, it may be wise to check Amazon.co.uk. There RAM seems to be 18.14£ = $27.27. I don't know about shipping costs, but they can't be more than a few bucks (at least aren't from the US to Europe).

EDIT: It's even cheaper in Amazon.de (25.699144 U.S. dollars), if you can handle German. I can't.

u/daftande · 1 pointr/theavalanches

If you go to the amazon page for this there is a seller named "marvelio" who is shipping from the USA. It's a bit more expensive however, so I just got mine from a UK seller. https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00004ZUVV/ref=dp_olp_new_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=new

Their prices can be crazy good sometimes too, for instance I just bought this box set:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MV7L284/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=

for $16.44, normally sells for $60+.

For my 22nd birthday, I received a deck of cards. And that's it. It was depressing.

Link to my item :)

u/Logaline · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

Sister got it for my for my birthday, but Here it is on Amazon

u/Efaydian · 1 pointr/vinyl

I ordered from here personally: Amazon.co.uk Link

Cost is around $30USD or so including shipping, which I think is reasonable. Release date was yesterday. My copy has shipped, supposed to arrive before the 19th I think (I'm in Canada for the...record :)).

According to This it does.

"Vinyl edition of Random Access Memories is pressed in Europe on two high quality 180 gram LPs and presented in gatefold packaging with an 8 page booklet. Download code also included."

First, +- 50 means your mom is either 50 or is negative 50. To indicate uncertainty, first state the mean value (50 years old) and then use +/- with your standard deviation.

My mom is 50 +/- 5 years old

Alternatively, go on pandora, add a 70's or 80s station, tell her to thumbs up ones she likes, then buy those tunes on amazon later.

u/LukeGreatGuy · 1 pointr/vinyl

I had to go to this page to get the lower price.

u/Melvar_10 · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Hell yeah I need RAM.
