Here is the image quality it can produce:

I haven't got a lot of experience with camcorders or the current run of point-and-shoot cameras, so I am not a lot of help there. But I can tell you that you can get a pistol-grip that you can screw onto any camera, like this one (first link that came up on Amazon). If you want a pistol grip but wind up thinking a point and shoot is the best way to go, maybe that's something to consider. There are a lot of options for things like this, many with lots of nice features (here's one that converts to a tripod! Neat!), so you should definitely do some looking about before you make any decisions.

Sorry for the late reply! u/jaytm21, u/socalchris, and u/OlmecsTempleGuard

I have taken a look into used tripods, however Crarigslist isn't really active around my location and Gumtree doesn't list many or the sellers are not willing to post the tripods.

u/OlmecsTempleGuard I have looked into getting a Magnus VT-4000, as per your suggestion, however I cannot find any sellers in the UK.

That said I have looked online and found a few tripods which look to be decent. But as I've never owned a tripod before, I am not sure as to which locking mechanism is best, twist-locks or the latches, nor which of the following tripods would be better. It would be much appreciated if any input could be shared as to which of the tripods would be best?

The tripods which I have found are:

Yeah basically. you can use it to mount anything that uses the hotshoe or threaded mount. here is a pricey but good one and here is a more consumer friendly one. you can use something like this to use your phone as a monitor too if you dont have a small monitor. i dont know about the iOS side of the world but i know android has DSLR Controller

u/ryandlf · 1 pointr/Vive

I bought 2 of these and 2 of these. I plan on painting the poles or something to look less constructiony, but it actually doesn't look that bad and now my VR system is mobile and I can have the lighthouses set perfectly. For $75 its worth it. Oh and I also wrap the cord around the pole going up to the lighthouse so I don't have an ugly cord stretched all diagonally along the wall.

u/the_onge · 1 pointr/Tinder

Some women like the workout pictures, however some may get turned off by that, it's best to go with variety. Maybe invest in a little tripod and if you don't have a DSLR camera, use a plate that can hold your phone, so you can use the self-timer.

But yeah, try and make some friends.

I usually use pics that other people have taken for me randomly on trips.

The exact selfie stick that I have isn't available anymore, but it's something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HF12Y2L/ref=sspa_dk_detail_1?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B07HF12Y2L&pd_rd_w=ecDhl&pf_rd_p=c83c55b0-5d97-454a-a592-a891098a9709&pd_rd_wg=ssFrj&pf_rd_r=VGJT0WVYBTBJW50MA90H&pd_rd_r=0cd33742-883f-44fd-860b-f0b358e98ad2&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExUEdQRkpUNzdJWlpUJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNDEyNzE2MUZXNFJZRDM2WlBOVSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNzI1MzQ0MUxDMDdMQ0FTV0pTWiZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2RldGFpbF90aGVtYXRpYyZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

If you do buy one of them, check it out to make sure the tripod part isn't too flimsy. Had that issue with one of them

Not saying this will solve everything but I do think it's a nice way to get a portrait shot with more of the background than a regular selfie without having to ask someone else.

u/TheClouse · 2 pointsr/Magic

A: Love the Tally Ho's.

B: Buy this. It's $20.

C: Probably a great trick, just can't properly evaluate it.

D: Never shoot vertical video unless you're doing snapchat. How often do you turn your TV sideways?

u/Wh1teDragon · 3 pointsr/bodybuilding

I've seen some guys have things like these that will hold your phone for you: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AFADPLK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_8SCnybPYS3FZP and they're only $10-$15.
Some of these are professional shots while they're on stage or done with nicer cameras. You can always work on your posing in the mirror and don't necessarily need pictures. Find what works for you and looks the best to your eye. Do you have people in your local gym to ask for advice too?

u/womax · 1 pointr/tennis

If you're willing and able to climb up the fence, I'd recommend one of these. I got mine a while ago and I just leave it in my bag because it's so small and lightweight. I can whip it out, pop my phone on, and get it up on the fence in about a minute. They're super easy to use and very reasonably priced. The only drawback is that not everyone can/wants to climb a fence.

u/op12 · 1 pointr/evo4glte

I don't know of any specifically for the EVO LTE, but a universal one like this would probably work (it says it works for phones up to 2.75" wide and the EVO LTE is 2.71" wide). I'm actually surprised there was one that was specific to the original Evo 4G.

u/kins_dev · 1 pointr/Pixel4

If you use a tripod or something else to hold the phone perfectly still and wait about 10 seconds you should see a toast notification at the top of your screen saying that astrophotography mode is enabled.

I found this tripod to be fairly good and include a remote:

u/tomlizzo · 3 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

I used to take them in an empty conference room with good natural light. Now I take them at home because my home setup is a little better. If you get a tiny phone tripod you can basically take fit pics anywhere... out on your front porch, outside somewhere during lunch, whatever.

u/boberthepker · 2 pointsr/AndroidGaming

I found this one on Amazon. Looks the same. $4.99 and Prime shipping. Thanks for sharing this!

For responsive play I'd say

Renegade - $16

For responsive, then learning unresponsive,

YoYoFactory Arrow - $15

Just for something a little different, plus you get a counter weight.

Duncan Freehand - $20

String

100pk of Kitty Fat - $21

And because you have some cash left over..

Cellphone tri-pod to record some trick circles with - $12

5 Pound bag of sour gummy worms, because sour gummy worms are fucking awesome. - $16

Boom.

u/cheddarhead4 · 5 pointsr/DnD

If you still want to use minis but not fiddle with the camera, this is the way I've done it:

Use google hangouts instead of skype. set whatever webcam you're currently using to point at yourself. Buy a $15 phone tri-pod on amazon and use it to hold your phone aimed at the battlemap. With google hangouts, you can join the video chat on your computer and on your phone.

$7 tripod, $8 phone attachment

I have one of these and really like it. No need to buy a phone adaptor, this one holds both larger and smaller cells phones. Also comes with its own GoPro attachment too. $15.99
AVAWO Universal 12-Inch Mini Flexible Tripod with Wrapable Leg Quick Release Plate and Cell Phone Tripod Adapter

u/drnick1988 · 1 pointr/windowsphone

Thanks! I got both items on Amazon. The flexible smartphone tripod http://amzn.to/1UGfwig and the zoom lens http://amzn.to/22FuxSY, which will work with any standard tripod fitting, including the tiny useless aluminum one it comes with.

u/Country_Disc_Golf · 2 pointsr/discgolf

I use this exact tripod for filming myself on the course. I wrap the legs around trees and branches for better angles when there's one available to use.

I like this solution.

EDIT(Changed a word)

u/MrsSpice · 5 pointsr/socialskills

Search for portrait or headshot photographers if you want a professional photo.

Personally, I would do it on my own. For less than $20, you can get a shutter control button and versatile phone tripod. I have both and while I don't often have reason to use them, they've worked well for me. You also can simply use your phone camera' timer feature. If you do a search for DIY headshots, you'll find many tutorials on how to get a good photo.

Maybe look at other people's profile pictures and take note of what you do and don't like, and bring that information to your own photo shoot.

I just found this one too.
http://www.amazon.com/Gorilla-6055001-Heavy-Duty-Mounting/dp/B019HT1U80/
Its 3 times as much but says it holds up to 30 pounds. I never considered the vibration effect. I think I will actually order this stuff and give it a try. Ill just put a pillow under the lighthouses in case they fall. Maybe not a permanent solution but if it works fine for a day or 2 I will know I can use it for parties at other peoples houses.

I also found these as well. A retractable pole that should reach most ceilings. and a bar grip with a camera mount on the end. It will screw right in lighthouses
http://www.amazon.com/FastCap-Support-System--144-Inches-3HAND5/dp/B000067S12/
and
http://www.amazon.com/Feelglad-Universal-Handlebar-Motorcycles-Panasonic/dp/B00QP7E35K/

The only thing I dont like about these is that it makes the Vive that much less portable and a much bigger investment.

u/oc974 · 2 pointsr/androidafterlife

I use this tripod mount and screw on a mini tripod or GorillaPod. I'm sure there's even an adapter so you can use GoPro related accessories.

u/barackstar · 1 pointr/Vive

you could mount your lighthouses using Contractor Poles and Camera Pole Mounts.

* I have not tried these specific products, they're just what came up when I searched them on Amazon.

u/Sobertese · 2 pointsr/redneckfixes

Or, for a simpler fix and probably just as cheap.

u/graesen · 1 pointr/photography

I was looking at this so far.

u/pexeq · 4 pointsr/Vive

Contractor pole

Mount

The pole has a mechanical lock and you rotate it to tighten. Other cheap poles that have a pump mechanism will apparently break after 1-10 uses, according to my research.

u/indyK1ng · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I also rent and I used a solution in the thread on the Vive sub called "Anyone found good Lighthouse tripods/stands?" (can't link directly because of this sub's rules).

The way that solution works is you get this 2-pack of 3rd hand supports which are not monopods but stand from floor to ceiling. Then you get two of these bicycle/motorcycle mounts to mount the sensors with.

Now I had a couple of problems come up in the shipping of the mounts. The first was that the package was stolen. The second was that I'd accidentally only ordered one. Due to the delay, when I discovered my error I'd already started working on more of an ad-hoc solution. With a trip to your local hardware store you can build a mount solution for those poles that is also really sturdy. Someone who used this solution (again, on reddit so I can't provide a link) used foam insulation tape to cushion the pole from the screw.
