Best thing to do is to buy a new case. Either this https://www.amazon.com/SilverStone-Technology-Mini-Itx-Computer-DS380B-USA/dp/B07PCH47Z2/ref=sr_1_15?keywords=silverstone+hotswap&qid=1566943919&s=gateway&sr=8-15 Which a quite a lot of folks I know who are using mini iTX are using something like this. 8 hotswap 3.5 and 4 x 2.5 https://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=452 or if you want to use ALL your drives and a cheaper alternative https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0091IZ1ZG/ref=twister_B079C7QGNY?_encoding=UTF8&th=1 You can fit 15 x 3.5 in that. or get some 2x2.5 to 1x3.5 to shove some SSDs in there too. https://www.amazon.com/Inateck-Internal-Mounting-Included-ST1002S/dp/B01FD8YJB4/ref=sr_1_11?keywords=2.5+x+3.5&qid=1566944571&s=electronics&sr=1-11 There are various companies I looked quickly on Amazon. That way you can have 12 drives rather than just 6. The cheap sata cards will fix you up or shove this in there https://www.amazon.com/Crest-Non-RAID-Controller-Supports-FreeNAS/dp/B07NFRXQHC/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=I%2FO+Crest+8+Port+SATA+III+Non-RAID+PCI-e+x4+Controller+Card+Supports+FreeNAS+and+ZFS+RAID&qid=1566944762&s=electronics&sr=1-1 . Hope this helps :)

> This can't be right. Aren't mostly all PCIE USB cards compatible?

Not at all. There can be rather dramatic differences between USB host controllers both in terms of how closely they follow the actual USB spec and how much actual throughput they are capable of. Rift cameras are high-bandwidth devices and thus some [of the shittier] host controllers choke.

That said I'm pretty sure some people have had some success splitting the Rift and its cameras across both the Z87 and Asmedia controllers that are on your board. Just make sure you update your drivers.

> I'm pretty OCD about my color scheme, and red isn't going to jive.

There are other cards out there that use the same Fresco Logic FL1100EX host controller that the recommended Inateck card uses, such as this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01J4CHJNA/

Though that archaic molex connector might be a deal breaker for some people, adapter or not.

Ok, it's been a while since I researched this. I can tell you that all the cards work though. If I remember correctly, this card is the best for 4 internal ports. This one if you only have a 1x slot available. And this one if you also want some eSATA ports

I have all these cards in my Hackintosh I'm typing on right now without any drivers. They all support hot swap as well.

u/rahuldottech · 2 pointsr/homelab

I actually use it as my daily driver when at home, and as a server the rest of the time. I already have a graphics card and wifi card attached to it though PCI-e slots. I don't need another network card for it, really. The mobo Ethernet + WiFi card is good enough for me.

However, I'm interested in expanding storage. I was wondering if you think this RAID controller is worth it? I'll be using it with 860 EVO SSDs, if I get it.

You mentioned SCSI and that got my brain gears turning. My dad handed me a box of old computer parts with stuff dating back to the 90's in it once, and I found this inside.

Having only gotten into custom computers around 2012, this stuff is entirely alien to me, but my research indicates it is a SCSI controller that uses an ISA slot.

Not sure if you are interested at all, it has virtually no value to me, and doesn't seem to sell for much on eBay. Let me know if you have any interest, shoot me a PM or whatever.

Edit: I'll poke around and see if I have any other remnants from that box laying around. My dad was a bit of computer geek back then and there just might be some useful stuff laying about.

u/iamofnohelp · 1 pointr/techsupport

Virtual xp, maybe. Or you'll need to go with a used physical box. For $50 setup up a box to copy the data off. Then repurpose the box (with new OS) as for storage and media server.

Might need to add something like this, for the copying the jaz disc.

Adaptec 2906 SCSI PCI Kit with Windows and Mac Support https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00005111H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_4ZiyCbR3XHXDG

u/drashna · 1 pointr/DataHoarder

Ah, okay, that wasn't clear to me.

As for the "not enough room", grab one of these and a cheap SAS JBOD enclosure and you have more room. :) (but not really helpful, i'm guessing)

As for repairing the MFT, TestDisk would be a good idea, but may be run actual recovery (PhotoRec) and see what it can find?

Otherwise, maybe clone the drive and run CHKDSK and see if it's able to repair the disk?

Otherwise, well, here is a list of alternate recovery software: http://alternativeto.net/software/testdisk/

Since M.2 is really just PCIe x4 with a different form factor you don't even really need an adapter. Just get one of [these] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072BD8Z3Y) to get 4 SATA III ports. I use one with an Espressobin and it works great!

Edit: Oops the device I linked above is for Mini-PCIe not M.2 (different form factors!) An M.2 4 port SATA controller can be had here.

u/gamecheet · 1 pointr/unRAID

you'd probably want something like this https://www.amazon.com/Syba-SATA-PCI-X-Ports-Controller/dp/B002C0Y5X4 I cannot attest to it's quality nor it's function but it seems to fit the bill. Look for "PCI-X sata controller" I don't know if you'll find any hba cards, pci-x is before my time.

u/drewharbin · 1 pointr/DataHoarder

Can't afford an LSI card, but I can probably squeeze by with
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07S8CB398/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_a7HYDb3CT1NK7

It should last until I make a few more woodworking sales and can get better gear.

Sorry to bring this back up,

How would a 9240 fair?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/LSI-LSI00200-MegaRAID-9240-8i-Controller/dp/B0036RA26Q/

Along with the raid expander:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-RES2SV240-Intel%C2%AE-Expander-Single/dp/B005O9WKQY/

Is the 9260 that much better? It's nearly double the price here in the uk...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/LSI-MegaRAID-9260-8i-512MB-Controller/dp/B002IT4YGM/

thanks for your time, mate!

EDIT: i assume that the backplane is compatible, but i'll just post the case i'm planning to buy for fullness. Once again, really only limited to availabiluty of amazon uk/fr/de due to my location

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00H3EVXCK/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_.faSub0EG6NJF

u/acharmedmatrix · 2 pointsr/DataHoarder

It wouldn't be the prettiest thing, but a card like this (not necessarily the cheapest one, just the first one I found) with one of these cables will get you four external SATA ports.

u/Arithon_Hanzo · 2 pointsr/homelab

The reviews were that the case lacked many of the listed options, like no ability to add redundant power, installed with only 3 fans instead of 4. no rails even though the manufacturer answered a question to say rails were included.

This is the original:

You mean some thing like a Sata controller card and USB expantion card?

u/hipsterdad_sf · 1 pointr/pine64

this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NZSBQ5S

it worked out of the box, it has a marvel 9215 chipset.

u/AnyCauliflower7 · 2 pointsr/unRAID

You already kind of linked to the combo card on amazon, its one of the other models on the product page: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MVTB8TK

I can't really link to the single cards since they're all weird Chinese brands that disappear from stock. I just search for the chipset and buy it, and hope its not fake. The most reputable brands I have are Chaintech and Orico.

I have chipsets 200, 201 (4 port) and 202 (newer 2 port) cards.

u/randomkilljoy69 · 2 pointsr/HomeDataCenter

how did you install the corsair nvme? Was looking to do the same and thinking about using an adapter like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-SATA-Based-Expansion-Cooling-System/dp/B07J3TRP2Q/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=dual+port+m2+nvme&qid=1559066381&s=electronics&sr=1-2

It seems the backplane on the R720 is limited to PCI 2 rather than PCI 3 so how fast can you get rw on the 1T Sata HGST?

u/iran889 · 1 pointr/techsupport

So I'm seeing stuff like these:

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00MVTB8TK?tag=tomshardware_forum_ca_vgl-20

But it seems I wont get full USB3/SATAIII speeds using a PCIe x1 slot on my motherboard. I'm seeing some posts say that if I use a floppy power connector with it, I can, but how reliable is this if I only have a x1 port open?

u/schoeblig · 2 pointsr/Amd

There are 1, 2 and even 4 port sata adaptors for m.2 slots, maybe that's what you're looking for. Edit: link

What SCSI version are the drives? If you don't know, post a model number or drive label and a pic of the port.

You'll need a SCSI controller, IDE won't work as SCSI uses an expanded command set which IDE doesn't support.

Best bet is to find a cheap PCIe SCSI adapter and a cable to host the drives on a machine to wipe them. Older SCSI is dated tech, but the controllers will still run you 50-150 ea, even for the old stuff. If this is out of the question, put a bullet through them or take them apart with a hammer.

DO pay attention to these controllers! Most of them are PCI-x not PCI-e because they were mostly for server boards from 90's to late 00's vintage. The link below is for an LSI PCIe card which will probably work for you if you have U320 SCSI drives. You'll have to add a ribbon cable AND the SCSI terminator for each unused port, AND have your drives addressed in the controller. SCSI is nowhere near as simple as SAS/SATA/IDE. Much of the drive/controller/cabling in SCSI requires setup on the controller firmware to address the drive.

https://www.amazon.com/LSI-Logic-LSI00154-LSI20320IE-Controller/dp/B000UPX9YE/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=pcie+scsi+card&qid=1555081551&s=gateway&sr=8-5

I'm looking around for a USB to SCSI adapter but they are extremely rare and expensive.
