They're pretty pricey, however I have these in my apartment and people are AMAZED that they aren't real. The 'wick' moves and flickers like a real candle and it even makes popping noises and gives off a light scent. Even just getting a few of these and putting them in with some cheaper LED ones would give the ambiance you're looking for!

My studio uses these electric candles, and they look just as soft as the real thing. Much safer and easier, especially if you're going with wood floors.

An Arduino to power a single fucking candle? I want to get some super-cheap Atmel and build this. I mean, how many I/O pins do you need for a single LED and perhaps a microphone.

I like your low-waste goal, but consider that the re-usability of these things will be higher if you get actual tiny LED tea lights so you can turn them on and off. They'll be much more reusable, nearly the same price per item, and only a tiny bit more plastic in each one. (I've bought that particular product from Amazon and they worked great-- each tea light lasted several nights before needing to replace the battery.)

Amazon sells a few options but I hope OP can recommend a specific listing since they can be hit or miss.

Best solution: RC4 + 2 of these with a flicker effect and gel + a tiny fogger.

Budget solution: This + a tiny fogger.

I would seriously advise against using a vape pen as a fogger - they can easily overheat and start a fire depending on the model.

Thanks all! Yeah the lighting comes from these super cheap, tiny and very bright self-contained led units (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Submersible-Floralyte-Round-Aqua-Crystal/dp/B00V3IYSGU). They do a whole bunch of colours and they re apparently waterproof too! Only spent a few quid on them, will definitely be picking up more! Not sure what kinda battery life they have, but I only fire them up occasionally, so it's fine so far (month three)

I looked at your other post. A few people noted some safety and liability issues that I agree with. If you are now concerned about sparks, as you mentioned in another post, I don't think that this is safe.

You could have done battery powered, remote controlled lamps here. Something like this has much less risk.

I think painted jars tend to look cheap. So I'm not a big fan of the paint. I'd just leave them clear.

I'd put the flowers in the jar and candles around the outside.

They're battery powered, so no fire risk. And they come with the wraps so they look nice.

Edit : actually, i would dump the jars entirely. Put the tree in the middle with flowers and candles around the outside. Or maybe alternate tables with a jar and a tree.

(unless by oil lantern you mean the kind meant for indoors...like a hurricane shade and base...same concept as above but likely easier just to remove the shade and pry off the wick holder...you'll likely be able to get enough room if you can get that part off....

I've used flameless candles in the past (in fact still use 2 on my altar) they even have ones that flicker, there's also flame lamp thingies (Something sorta like this), I've also heard of people using some kind of flame app thing on their phone though I have no exp in that

I know someone who had a cat who knocked over a candle. The house burned to the ground. Don't mix candles and cats if you don't want to be homeless.

Buy a flameless candle instead.
