16. Outsidepride Gazania Kiss Rose - 100 Seeds

    Features:
  • This gazania is a surefire winner in any flower bed due to its visual appeal and continual dependability. It boasts 3 inch rose colored flowers on a compact 10 inch plant which will also spread 10 inches. The large, daisy-like flowers come in a variety of colors, but this rose is a show stealer.
  • Gazanias are 10 inch tall perennial plants growing in USDA zones 8 - 11.
  • Flowers are held above the basal foliage, forming a bright carpet of color when planted in large masses. Kiss gazanias are good plants for the front of sunny garden borders and also perform well as a flowering ground cover when planted in large groups.
  • Because of their heat and drought tolerance, Kiss gazanias are especially useful near driveways and sidewalks. They also do well in mixed container plantings. Gazanias are considered annuals in the north; however, in the warmest areas of the country, such as southern Texas and parts of California, they're short-lived perennials, usually not lasting more than a few years.
  • Sow 2 - 3 seeds per plant. Because of their heat and drought tolerance, Kiss gazanias are especially useful near driveways and sidewalks. They also do well in mixed container plantings. Gazanias are considered annuals in the north; however, in the warmest areas of the country, such as southern Texas and parts of California, they're short-lived perennials, usually not lasting more than a few years.

17. Outsidepride Red Clover Seed: Nitro-Coated, Inoculated - 5 LBS

    Features:
  • Perennial red clover seeds are an important forage legume grown widely in the temperate regions throughout the U.S. Red clover is becoming increasingly important in the Deep South where it is used as a winter annual. It is also grown in many areas from bulk clover seeds in the Pacific Northwest and other regions of the U.S. It is considered to be a short-lived perennial clover, meaning it typically lasts 3 - 5 years; however, it will often persist beyond this due to self-seeding.
  • Red clover has many uses including cover crops, food plots, pasture mixtures, hay, silage, and other uses which makes it the most widespread clover used today.
  • Red clover is adapted to a wide range of climatic conditions, soil types, fertility levels, use patterns and management. It is easy to establish, red clover seeds establish vigorously and is a very good clover to fixate nitrogen out of the atmosphere and in to the soil. Red clover is relatively easy to remain free of disease and pests. For this reason, red clover has many uses and is often used as part of a crop rotation program.
  • Red clover is often grown with cool season grasses, but can be grown alone or with certain warm season perennial grasses. It can be used for pasture, hay, or silage, and is an excellent soil improvement crop. When grown where it is well-adapted, the yield of red clover seed is usually higher than that of any other clover. It has a longer growing season than any other clover grown in the United States. Red clover is extremely attractive to insects and bumble bees are the main pollinator.
  • Plant red clover seeds at 1/2 lb per 1,000 square feet or 8 to 16 lbs per acre. Ideal seeding depth is approximately 1/4 inch, but error on the side of being shallow rather than too deep. Good seed-soil contact helps ensure establishment. Most red clover is seeded in late winter to early spring in the northern and central parts of the red clover belt. Autumn plantings are preferred in the Lower South.

Fear cuts deeper than swords

OOH I LOVE SCAVENGER HUNTS. Placeholder. I'm working on this. Goodbye sunday night productivity.

EDIT Aug 11, 11:44pm PST

1.) something that is gray.

2.) Something reminiscent of rain. It rains so much in my city and on those days I like to have my tea and soup and all the yummy hot homecooked food at school in the library while I study. I already have a great thermos for my tea and hot cocoa but not for my soups/food.

3.) Something food related that is unusual. I don't know if this is necessarily food related but WOOOO TEA. MANA-TEA. Seriously this is awesome.

4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. A wii for my mom because she has been wanting a wii or ipad for a long time. My bro and i think the wii would be better because at least we could all play it together when we go home to visit.

5.) I will recommend this book to anyone and everyone. It's the book I just finished reading and I feel like it has helped me a lot. I am so much more motivated and driven and it is helping me make some tough choices in my life. I am a senior in college but this book can help anyone who is at any place in their life I think. I currently have this on my wishlist which is like a supplement to the book. Seriously though, read it, share it with everyone you know. Let's make the world a happier place.

6.) An item that is less than a dollar. Awww yeee. They always seem to have one of these on the coffee table at my brother's house. Wherever he lives. Even though it's never his. But yeah, they're cool but I don't actually want one.

7.) Something related to cats. THIS IS SO AWESOME. I have another mug with the disappearing thing on my wishlist too. But yeah, I love cats, I just don't have much cat stuff on my wishlist. I do need a real cat though... hint hint nudge nudge

EDIT Aug 12, 12:15am PST

8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it. Okay it's not Amazon but it is beautiful and I have had my eye on it for a year. Despite that fact that I do not plan on having children for at least 8 years. Dem hormones are a'ragin.

9.) I know it's not REALLY a movie but... A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why? Because it is so beautiful and awe inspiring. It really brings me a sense of peace every time I watch it.

10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain. I can put on my holy strainer hat and pray to The Flying Spaghetti Monster to save me from the zombies.

11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals. I know I used this for another one but really, I think doing these exercises would help me in all areas of life.

12.) One of those pesky Add-On items. These beauties, even though I doubt I can grow them without a yard...

13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why? My little acer hand me down freezes a lot, can't do multiple things at once, doesn't have a cd drive, has a screen too tiny to edit photos or edit my website. Basically everything is frustrating. And I'm a college student. So I use the computer for basically everything... and everything the little laptop CAN do takes forever.

EDIT Aug 12, 1:51am PST

14.) Something bigger than a bread box. If you don't think that is big enough, then here, but it's newly added.

15.) Something smaller than a golf ball. Well, I'm pretty sure this is smaller than a golf ball. If it wasn't, I'd be disappointed.

16.) Something that smells wonderful. Mmm imagine the ginger lemon grass!

17.) A (SFW) toy. And here's another one because I couldn't decide which one looks more fun...

18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school.

19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be. Currently obsessed with learning all kinds of new jewelry techniques! Also obsessed with tea because it's the one thing my boyfriend and I developed an interest in together. It didn't start out as either of our interests.

20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand. THIS IS SO PRETTY AND USEFUL AT THE SAME TIME. Seriously so cute, has lovely details, 8gb, and you can wear it as a pendant. Whaaaat!

EDIT: this lovely is made in oregon!

u/NeverPostsJustLurks · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Hey! I think this is the cheapest on my list, I had other things that were cheaper but they increased in price :( I'm not even sure what I'd do with rosemary, I don't usually use it in my cooking lol.

I'm not going to lie, I think what I want the MOST on my list is this! I'm a sucker for board games, and Risk has always been a favorite of mine. I love boardgames because you actually get to interact face to face with your friends and it reminds me of a time long long ago where people spent time talking and hanging out with friends instead of playing games, watching tv, or updating facebook statuses on their phone while talking to you. I have a group of friends that gets together once a week and we either go do trivia, board games, or just hang out and I think we'd love to play this sometime.

This one is interesting because it has different rules, and the board changes between games. It's unique in the sense that decisions from previous games influence the next game and some things are permanent. From what I understand, to play it you need the same group of people each game and the board is only good for one play through as you need to either cut out or rearrange the board. Also there are some ominous envelopes that have to remain sealed until the instructions tell you to open them. I just don't know why board games are so expensive :(

OK rambling over!

Don't think I forgot that you are the spicy lover! Might I suggest adding this to your wishlist? It's super tasty and used in almost any Korean spicy recipe. Or add this one as it's only $7 more and has 6x the quantity :)

Anyway, thanks for the contest Aveline!

Whenever one of these bee posts come up, people start encourage internet randos to set up their own beehives. Beehives are great and all, but not everyone should have one.

There is a much, much, much easier way to support bees in your area: plant flowers native to your area. (So don't just get a rando packet of wildflower seeds, get things suited to your area and land).
The bees feed on these plants so it is a way of supporting bees without setting up your own colony.

Xerces Society and The Pollinator Partnership have regional guides for plants that support pollinators. (Sorry if the links get overloaded and stop working).

For example, sundail lupine is native to much of the Eastern and Central US Map. It not only supports bees, it is the sole food source for the Kerner blue butterfly. Seeds.

Asters are great for bees because they bloom in the fall when a lot of other plants are dormant. New England Aster Seeds (despite the name, they're actually native to much of the Northern US) Calico Aster Seeds (Eastern/Central US) Pacific Aster Seeds

Redbuds are super pretty ornamental trees favored by bees and there are Eastern, Western, Mexican, and Texas varieties. More info

You should really watch Breaking Bad. I know everyone says it, but it truly is an amazing show! It draws you in right from the start and now the entire series is up on Netflix so you won't have to wait for new episodes! It's dramatic and leaves you wanting more with every episode. So great. I can't say enough good about it.

Here's my item! A pretty orchid for my collection :]

When it finally gets warmer out I'll have a 'yoga pants party'!

Thank you for the amazing contest!

This is an amazing resource on constructing vivariums, they are a little more intricate, and require lighting, but many of the foundation techniques should be applied to terrarium building.

Their website is a phenomenal resource to buy plants, and for plant/flora care!

Amazon sells plants like this

I find the same various plants, in the indoor garden section of different department stores, and garden centers, for around 2-5 dollars per plant.

This video is a great start! Check out his YouTube Channel to learn how to build several different types of terrariums and vivariums.

I find most of my jars at thrift stores or the goodwill.

If you like pretty plants in a jar, here is one of my recent builds

r/terrariums is a good place to share terrariums, but kinda weak for resources.

I hope this helps, share anything you make via PM, I would love to see it!

Try hatching mantes in your garden next year. I picked up two Ootheca eggs on ebay and so far I haven't had any pest issues in New Center.

I planted San Marzano tomatoes this year (shout out to Blocks for actually having them) and they're doing great so far. Various peppers, kale, romaine, lavender, eucalyptus, basil, mint, have also been doing great.
My spinach was the only thing that that gave me problems, but I didn't keep it cool enough during those super hot weeks so it's my own fault. Next year I'll mulch it or shade it better when the weather gets like that.

I was lucky enough to have an extra old dirt patch in my yard (about 5x4) so I mixed it with some compost and poured 30,000 wild flower seeds on top. Worked like a charm (pic). I also picked up a bee house from Meijer and it looks like the bees have been using it. Hopefully that means good things for next year. (Other places sell the bee houses but theirs were the least expensive.)

I posted this in another thread recently. There are easy to grow plants to help support pollinators. They are native plants that require little to no attention. It isn't going to fix the bigger issue of pesticides, but it can help.

East of the Mississippi, north of Montgomery AL and south of Concord NH with room for a tree - Serviceberry (That tree can grow elsewhere, but it is native to that area)

Eastern US with room for a bush - New Jersey Tea or Buttonbush

Eastern US with a sunny spot - Black eyed Susans

Northern Midwest with a sunny spot for flowers - White aster and hyssop

PA/VA and MO/IA with a slightly shady spot - Virginia Bluebells

IA, MO, IL - Yellow Coneflower

Eastern Texas through Minnesota - Prairie Phlox or Cream Wild Indigo

Rocky Mountains with a sunny patch - Blue columbine

SD/KS to CO/AZ -Blanket flower

Florida to Texas - Lance-leaved coreopsis

Western Texas and Great Plans to the Rockies - Scarlet Globemallow

Arid southwest with room for a bush - Apache Plume

Pacific Northwest - Showy milkweed or Nootka rose or Big leaf lupine

California - Baby blue eyes or California lilac or California aster or California goldenrod

Heyyyyy, YOUUUU!! I haven't seen your ID in the various posts' comments in a little while! I hope all is well, aside from your poor plants. Ohhhh...! I'm so sorry to learn about your bird nest "situation". I had a similar thing happen with one of my hanging baskets (but, with mourning doves) and I ended up watching my plant slowly wither away... It's such a struggle when Mother Nature makes you choose between adored plants and birds that want to start a family. But, I hope you can figure out a way to water your mint without disturbing the cardinals too much.

And, I'm so sorry to learn of your plants that dried up and died. Yes, gazanias are so common down here in SoCal (Southern California) but, I still love their colors and color combinations. I actually recently purchased two packets of seeds from Amazon by a business called "Outsidepride". I've had really good results with seeds I'd puchased from them in the past so, I kinda tend to stick with them. (NOTE: I'm not advertising for them nor am I sponsored by them.😄)

But, in case you were curious, the seed packets were for: 1) 100 seeds of Gazania rigens Kiss Rose and 2) 100 seeds of Gazania rigens Red Shades

u/TheAlchemyBetweenUs · 1 pointr/collapse

I've never eaten it, but the main reason I include it in the mix is for nitrogen fixation and pollinator food.

You can buy clover seed that's already inoculated with the symbiotic nitrogen fixing bacteria. Like this product. I'm hoping that will help get the soil life reestablished. I'll add a bit of this to jumpstart the soil ecology.

Looks like you can eat red clover, so that's good to know. I think I'd rather eat the purslane, amaranth, and dandelion for greens though.

I'll make them with one half heat sterilized red clay and one half finished worm castings, then mix in the seeds and mycorrhizae, and make little discs. Once they dry, I'll be able to toss them in suitable places and hope for the best.

Sorry if this is TMI. It's been on my mind.

Strawberry Abita is a very tasty beer. Sweet and smooth. Maybe it would turn you on to flavored beers if you try it. Or, Malibu Sunrise. It's Malibu Coconut rum, orange juice, grenadine and a cherry. An appletini is always a good one too. Careful though, they may be little drinks but appletinis will hit ya fast and hard.

The amazon reviews are great.
My fav from Ryann:
I "planted" my seeds, and then after about 3 hours, their beauty in the "garden" left me feeling euphoric and with many questions. The flowers that "bloomed" left me contemplating every decision I've made in life, and I am forever changed. Highly recommend seller..

/u/LuckyStar812, you're not just a nice person, you're one of the nicest persons I know! Not to mention my favorite Gr-----!

I try every year to hit as close to $0 on my tax return as possible. Not paying anything out, but not having "missed" any money on hand during the year. This was one of my most successful years at that; I got a $190 return, minus $120 to pay the CPA. :) With the remaining $70 I'm going to take the SO out for a fairly fancy dinner.

I'd love to have [these Drosera Intermedia seeds!] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F8LM7OI/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2C7DME36AA2L9&coliid=I25MF2UR2RUUGA)

This PR class is nuts.

My favorite class was my college public speaking class. It wasn't like a normal public speaking class where you just gave speeches though. Everyone sat in a circle, and it was like a discussion. But there was rules:

We couldn't talk about anything outside of the class.

We could only speak for ourselves.

We had to give examples of specific interactions for everything.

No theories, no hypotheticals. No closed questions.

And we had to address a specific person in class every time we talked.

It was awesome. The first few classes were awkward... but then people started understanding why the rules existed. It's really hard to explain but people got to know each other in a new way, instead of asking the same old questions. It was interesting and unique, and I wish more classes were like it, my professor was awesome.

It is always something! If you want to get the grass seed established before the 8a sun/heat hits, you gotta start now. We're on the TN/GA border, so 8b/9. I do a mix of tall fescue and clover (and throw in some grass food too). Clover fixes nitrogen into the soil, and nitrogen is what the grass wants.

> You may want to consider leaving the clover alone. It wasn’t until recently, when herbicides became popular, that clover was considered a weed. In fact, lawn seed mixes used to deliberately include clover (such as white Dutch clover) – something that some seed providers are now starting to do again.
>
> Because clover takes nitrogen out of the air and soil and makes it available to your lawn, it helps the lawn grow healthier and more pest-resistant, and reduces the amount of fertilizer required. It also requires less frequent mowing, attracts honeybees and other pollinators (although that may not be a positive if you’re allergic to bee stings), and breaks up compacted soil. The one drawback is that it doesn’t stand up to heavy foot traffic quite as well as lawn grass.

https://organicplantcarellc.com/clover-in-the-lawn-good-or-bad/

I use this clover:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E255LMQ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

There are lots of videos on YouTube. The This Old House ones are good. But if starting from scratch, I spread fresh top soil with some compost, then spread my seed mix, then rake it in, tamp it down (super important), cover with straw, and water. And keep the dogs off of it!!!

Front yard is sod that we overseeded with clover. Back yard is pure clover that I'm tempted to add some grass overseed to. Very nice synergy between the two.

You do want mini or micro clover. Micro is more expensive but is supposed to be shorter. I've had very good luck with

5w LEDs, compared to 3, and they are cheaper than when I bought them at 69 bucks. I think they draw actual 130watts, I just added 2 CFLs to pick up any missing overlap, but so far they are looking good! I think I want to switch to COB though from what I have been reading, boost out a few more watts, not really into the DIY though,

GEEZ. Last time I bought HBWR they were really cheap and they were shipped from Germany but I cannot find that vendor on Amazon anymore. Might be stuck with buying from these "shaman shop" type places that needlessly inflate the price of seeds due to LSA popularity (I'm assuming).

I get my morning glorys from here if that helps.

I will assume it's a crap light only because they don't offer any information as to output and what not. These blurple lights usually have high blue spectrum and crap red spectrum.

It seems like budget is something that is important to you, did you look at either of these lights?

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HI3AFYM/ref=psdc_14252941_t2_B00RWQ4B50 <-- the lights are 3000k Lumen, which is exemplary for flowering and great for vegging. However, it too does not give us any info on efficiency and output. But right off the bat the 3000k will outperform the UFO blurple.

Light 2 and 3 proved decent results for a few growers in this sub.

Seed Needs has a cheap option, 1000 seeds, a good starter. I'm also considering this for a larger size, it's not really visibly untreated until you check the Amazon FAQ where the vendor says it's completely organic and untreated.

What brand 300W is it? I have heard of some being worse than others, like the 3W LED is only 2W in reality or something. Currently leaning toward MEIZI, but I don't know if it is really good or not...

If I get these quickly I may actually be able to make some flowers this spring :)

u/BaZing3 · 10 pointsr/interestingasfuck

Mimosa pudica. You can get seeds from Amazon. They're really easy to grow and produce some cool flower.

The leaves can sense when they're touched and they dump a bunch of water out into the stem, causing them to fold up like in the gif. I think the theory is that it's an evolutionary thing to scare off possibly-harmful bugs and other creatures (they also have thorny stems, which backs up the antisocial idea).
