As far as generic themed coins usable for just about every game in existence, I really do think the Seafall coins take the cake. If you're willing to spend the money, they're the best on the market (IMO).

I disagree with Garry that the Scythe coins are theme-less. Each denomination is designed to evoke one of the cultures in Scythe, which is great for Scythe, but makes them a little awkward for adding to other games if you care about theme (this is a very nitpicky subject, so YMMV).

Another good, and really cheap, option are these pirate dubloons on Amazon. They're very dubloon-y and don't have denominations, but they come in four shades and $37 for 200 coins is a hard deal to beat.

If you really don't care about the theme of the coins, a great option is to seek out pachinko/pachislo tokens on eBay. They're generally REALLY cheap. For $50-$60, you can get a MASSIVE amount of coins (700-1000) in copper, silver, and gold finishes - you'll just have to cope with whatever weird theming they're stamped with. My silvers, for example, have an eagle on one side and the Statue of Liberty on the other.

But, for generically themed, gaming-specific coins that look good, feel good, and go with damned near any game, the Seafall coins really are great (just expensive).

I see you like Harry Potter. I am a fan of this throw. Or you could get the Marauder's Map! This is also really cool. You need.

I love Harry Potter collectibles. I'm in the process of acquiring all the Horcruxes right now.

If I win I really need a new pillow. It's $1.50 over, so a giftcard towards it would be amazing.

Thank you for the contest and I hope you feel better soon!

Also I just saw you're from Michigan as well! Rad. Are you thinking of going to the meet-up?

u/Architectdave610 · 3 pointsr/Silverbugs

A gift for a non stacker should look really nice especially if you’re planning to continue. Definitely not a junky mint tube

I’d recommend a really nice presentation case. Like the link below, but obviously you could go cheaper. I like 20 slots, because you get them their 1st 18 and hopefully they will look forward to your gift every year. And they got their own once their 19 and 20. Create an independent silverbug.

Hi, we are running a Thanksgiving special for Gratitude Tokens, which are metal or wooden tokens of gratitude that you can give to people who have made your day special or for so many other reasons

We donate 10% of all net proceeds to Care.org and are offering 20% off tokens from Thanksgiving through Giving Tuesday.

Please visit our website at gratitudetoken.org/givethanks/ and share with us your stories of kindness and generosity.

We also sell them through Etsy and Amazon, if you prefer going through a known website, but unfortunately we don't have sales in these shops at this time.

Please have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving!

I used to store everything in 2x2 cardboard flips with mylar windows like these which work great for modern low relief coins but were causing visible contact marks with higher relief ancients. I later switched to 2x2 SAFLIPs which are a bit thicker and seem to fix the contact marks problem but I found to be brittle when regularly handled and easily scuffed, obscuring my view of the coin. I finally ended up switching to 2x2 envelopes which seem to hold up better and provide plenty of room for writing down info about the coin. They're also very compact, much moreso than SAFLIPs, which is nice.

For both flips and envelopes, I prefer 2x2 double row cardboard boxes for storing all the coins in.

Have you ever been in line at a store and the cashier says "That will be $10.05" and your heart just breaks a little because you realize that you have to break an entire bill on that 5 cents? Well no more! Now, thanks to this Philadelphia Mint Jefferson Nickel from 2003 you can easily pay that extra change and not break any more bills!

Please read the reviews

Happy early birthday!

My cheapest item on my wishlist corresponds with one of my hobbies lol. I collect domestic and foreign currency, casino chips, knives, and vinyls; my item being the prior.

I collect the first three because it was passed down from my grandpop, the first from my dad, and the last from my pop pop if that makes sense lol. There's history involved with all of them and I appreciate that most of all besides the common factor between us.

You must have a hobby though, I don't believe you!

u/Scottmk4 · 2 pointsr/coincollecting

Oh another suggestion:

Get the 50 states quarter book.

I got this one:

State Quarter Map - Us State Quarter Collection https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002C0KS12/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_.93JAb1Y3V1P0

Then you can hunt for quarters. They’re big enough to be easy to hold, and each one has a different picture so that you can tell them apart without being able to read words or 4 digit numbers.

It’s a great first collection, because you can find just about all of it in circulation, and if you want to finish it up it’s easy and cheap to find any missing ones on eBay.

I’ve got a 5 year old that was very proud to bring her finished collection for show and tell day.

Better than what and for what purpose?

here are some ideas I have used.

CD cases. pop out the black tray and a couple little round tabs on the case and it they will fit 16 caps. 4x4. Makes them easy to store and even display. Easy to get in/out.

Cardboard and plastic wrap. Probably best for large quantities. Cut pieces of thick corrugated cardboard. I generally do something around 12x8" but you should probably pick a size that works for the box you will put them in. I place caps on the cardboard. A 12x8" piece will hold about 100 caps. Then once it's filled I place a piece of plastic wrap over the caps/cardboard and fold the excess around the back to hold the caps to the cardboard. I then stack these into large boxes. I'd guess a standard size moving box will hold 1-3k caps when stored this way. Keeps them organized and from getting scratched up.

Coin pages. I can't remember what size I have. Probably close to this. https://www.amazon.com/BCW-Polypropylene-Pocket-Coin-Pages/dp/B009K4WUQ4 . With that product you could store 2k caps in pages in binders for under $20 (if you already have binders) Would be a good way to display them for sale at a show.

u/ImpossiblyFunky · 1 pointr/Silverbugs

I also prefer direct fit, but the only ring-less capsules I've been able to find are these from various sellers for pretty much the same price. Problem is, they seem to be slightly larger than the round itself leaving the round free to move slightly inside the capsule. That will undoubtedly annoy me.

I've done the same shopping around and what you've found I think is about as good a price as you'll find for these. I opted, though, for the 10-pack with a tube (link) so I could keep them from being loose in my box.

I haven't quite come down on the debate whether or not rings are a good thing inside air-tites. Most of what I'm reading about them is positive, though. Time, as it usually does, will inevitably tell on this one.

I'll be using these to store my soon to be delivered Privateers (got some full sets coming, looking forward to P5), Cleos, and the Anubis(es? Anubii?) that I ordered this afternoon from Provident.

u/BlastPT · 1 pointr/boardgames

I got replica doubloons from amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Pirate-Coins-Silver-Doubloon-Replicas/dp/B001D7Y9BU) for Merchants & Marauders and couldn't be happier!

The clink sound and the sort of accurate currency for the time really makes the game shine even more. I already had upgraded it with wooden chests so this was the perfect choice to go with them. All players love it.

u/petitbleuchien · 3 pointsr/coins

I am not quite sure from your description that this is what you're looking for but here is what I recommend:

A slant-D ring binder plus these binder sheets plus Saflips (one size fits all) or 2x2s (various sizes).

Obviously there are many makers of each of these items so choose sources you trust.

Browse various specialized supplies at Coin Supply Express and, of course, Wizard.

u/perverse_imp · 2 pointsr/coins

According to a quick search your coin's diameter is 18 mm. With that coloring, I'd pick maybe a steel chain with a silver bezel.

Here's the right sized bezel you will have to find your own chain. Personally I like picturing the bronze colored coin in the nice silver bezel, would give it a nice contrast I think.

Some googling should find you just what you need.

Sterling Silver Dime Bezel 18 mm Screw Top Coin Edge 10 Cent https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0018AXOLS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_Nukh2xcbje6zC

These things are fantastic. I bought several of them to put dimes in for friends. You can then string it onto an anklet, or necklace, or whatever.

It's Saint Brunswick, the patron saint of bowlers. :D

Here are some for sale on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Catholic-Relief-Services-Uncirculated-Guardian/dp/B005N8PKVS/

Do people still play duckpins where you are in Maryland? I used to live in Montgomery County and that was what our local bowling alley offered, many years ago. Fun game.

u/AbrahamVanHelsing · 12 pointsr/rpg

It's fairly minor, but my favorite prop was an item one of my players requested. He was playing a 4e Assassin, and over the course of 4 sessions never rolled above a 12 (on the die) for an attack. He wanted a coin for attacks instead- Heads is 20, Tails is 1. Unaware that such things are available for purchase, I made one. Out of lead. Which I melted with a blowtorch and shaped with wood blocks. The item has two limitations to how many times it can be used per day- character's Charisma modifier, and player's willingness to handle a chunk of raw lead.

I'll take a picture of it tomorrow night, if anyone is interested. Goddamn it I forgot to do that.

I'm also working on something for the campaign I'm in now, based on something I read here a few weeks ago. There's an item called a Bookplate of Recall. I intend to insert one into a hollowed-out book named "My Emergency Kit," and fill it with useful things. I plan on actually hollowing out a book and filling it with props, to keep myself honest and ensure the things I want to store will actually fit in a book-like space. Unfortunately, that one's not finished yet.

u/OperatorD · 1 pointr/pics

I get these in mailings periodically, usually from the Catholic Relief Services charity. amazon.com link

u/FoodBornChillness · 14 pointsr/whatisthisthing

This was actually one of a five piece set from "American Coin Treasure's". Basically a company that bought up uncirculated quarters, painted them, wrapped them in a box and tried to sell them at 1000% profit.

Here is the exact set on Overstock. Com

With a better example of image,

Here is the set on Amazon

It's a guardian angel token.

If you do an internet search using those words you'll find a number of message board discussions, apparently they're fairly common.

Just a kids doubloon, available here.
If it was real the gold wouldn't be tarnished and it would not have that little extra bit sticking out.
