(Part 2) Reddit mentions: The best laptop batteries

I’ve had decent luck with parts I’ve bought from iFixit. I’m guessing this one for an 11” or this one for a 13”. Without your exact model number I’m not sure. They are certainly a bit pricier than you can get them - and I do know they at least stand behind the products they sell. I’ve bought phone batteries from them in the past with good luck.

Amazon has several well rated kits as well that are in the ~$50 range as well:

  And the batteries off Amazon are hit or miss. I’ve replaced a few MacBook Pro batteries out of the 3 or 4 I’ve replaced one needed to be replaced.
  
  
  BTW have you run any of the diagnostics on your MBA? https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204054. 70 cycles is a bit low, unless you’ve let the battery go extremely low. Sometimes just flashing the SMC will get it to charge again - it will take a few cycles for it to get full charge again.

I replaced my mid 2012 13 inch MBA battery myself and it was super easy. Took maybe 10-15 mins. I ordered this battery off of Amazon and it's been working great since, about 3 months now. It also comes with the tools you need.

It's still not going to make a huge difference in performance, though again I have the i7 already and find the performance acceptable for some basic gaming so have no experience with the i5. It'd probably be a decent enough upgrade to make it worthwhile, and reasonably easy.

I replaced the battery on mine about 2-3 years ago, but it rarely runs on battery. I do remember getting 2-3 hours out of basic web surfing and office use but not sure how well it'd do when gaming. You can find batteries on Amazon.

You might also want to replace the wifi card; it's easy and can greatly improve the performance over the card that was provided.

ah, good good. Sorry if it seemed patronizing, I just never really know what anyone's knowledge/experience is with this stuff, if any. Seems like you know what you're doing though.

How are the rubber feet on the underside? if they've gon missing, that can cause the machine to sit too low on the surface, not allowing enough airflow underneath. Maybe adding some thicker feet like these sticky ones would help, or suggest a "extended battery" like this (not that specific one, just an example), those kinda prop up the back, allowing for better airflow when the cooling pad isn't around.

I stumbled across this brand a while ago, and because the price was right I purchased their speaker. It was by far one of the best purchases I have ever made. The sound is crisp, clear and loud. Is your MBP a 13 inch? I bought this battery for my 2010 13 inch MBP and It just like the original battery. I suppose it could be something else, but everything I've found online (for example) that isn't just parroting the ineffectual official support indicates that a charger that won't even light up most likely means a faulty battery rather than a bad charger.

As I said, I did this myself albeit on a Surface RT 1. I bought this, which comes with all the tools you'll need (screwdriver and plastic spudger; you might want to buy a couple of extra spudgers since they get pretty chewed up trying to pry stuff apart) and a video that was sufficient for me to figure out how to do it. I only lost one or two screws in the process, which is a pretty good average. Just make sure you buy the right battery for a Surface RT 2 and you're good to go.

My laptop cord is busted and can't charge my laptop, only keeps it alive. And when its plugged in it runs like dial up and if it unplugs it dies completely. Its driving me insane lol

Replacement battery. Takes about four minutes to deinstall/reinstall.

I don't know if my battery is good or not. Replacing the battery didn't recover my Kindle (similar issue). However, I ordered a replacement battery from Amazon and when it didn't work they gave me a full refund.

The replacement you need is this one. Let me know if you need a walk through on putting it in. It's pretty easy but if you haven't done that sort of thing before it helps to have a guide.

Let's say that Fallout 4 draws 100 Watts to run. I've measured mine using 165W to run MGSV, but it has a desktop CPU so most laptops will be much less.

100W for 10 hours is 1000Wh, if my understanding of electricity holds, which is verrrry unsure. My battery says it outputs at 10.8V, so let's use that.

Plugging into this site, that's about 90Ah. The above linked battery is 4.4 Ah.

So, the laptop would last about half an hour at a sustained 100W draw.

I'm not at all confident that I did all that math correctly, since it has been a long time since college, but the point is; no laptop can play FO4 for 10 hours on battery. I doubt there are any that can play at >30fps for three hours. You'll definitely need a battery bank for that, which I don't know anything about but this seems like a place to start.

Sorry to not have any actual help to give you, but I saw an opportunity to temper expectations and took it.

tldr No gaming laptop can last 10 hours and play games during that time, battery technology is nowhere near there yet. Consider buying a power bank.

I'd recommend getting the 44++ battery which is the 9-cell battery that's compatible with the X220. This is the same battery sold on Amazon.

There are good deals online for ThinkPad batteries, but be careful that you're getting OEM batteries; non-OEM batteries tend to cheaply made and don't last as long as OEM batteries. Always check the seller's reviews to make sure they're not substituting with non-OEM units.

That model has a battery you can replace. You can buy one from amazon or other sources. When we looked for ours it was around 80 dollars for the battery.

It surprises me to see so many commentors not seeming to understand the legal distinction.

I bought a new battery for my 2009 MacBook a couple of years ago. It works great because the last battery would not hold a charge. It was about $20 on Amazon.

I bought this battery a half year ago and it's doing pretty well.

It's definitely not as good as the battery that Apple sells, but it's affordable and does what it needs to. I get around 3hrs of battery life on it.

I need these poly zip bags to put at each desk in my room and put materials in so my students can have them on-hand instead of having to distribute them every time we need to use them.
