The hot is probably an odd option but there are very safe drinks for diabetics. I'm a believer in Dr Bernstein's recommendation of saccharin as safe and effective.
The sodastream water flavorings have to be refrigerated if that's an issue.
I use the True Citrus products which are basically crushed up citrus fruits. One package per liter and they taste great. Make sure not to get the Kool aid type products as those may not be soda safe.

The PLAIN fruit ones are great. I think the sweetened ones are gross.
Big tubs of powder mix, like this can make tons of mixer, just add water (melted ice!).
