The comments and opinions expressed on this page are written exclusively by redditors. For your reference and for the sake of transparency, here are the specialists whose opinions mattered the most in our ranking.
Wooooo okay! Here's 1-20, and I will give the bonus ones a go in just a few minutes! fear cuts deeper than swords
1.) Something that is grey. How about a knife set?!
2.) Something reminiscent of rain. Cinema Paradiso! The cover of it is two people in the rain :) (Movies wishlist)
3.) Something food related that is unusual. This Manatea infuser is unusual! (Default wishlist)
4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. Tell me who it's for and why. (Yes, pets count!) I have a pet wishlist and a wishlist for my best friend! This traveling litter box is the perfect combination--it's so I can take my kitty on trips to my best friend's place! (Kitty wishlist)
5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it! Why have just one book when you could have 3000?! This little usb is loaded with over 3000 classic novels. Yes, almost all of these novels are free on Project Gutenberg, but having them all in one spot ready for you to peruse is amazing. You're almost guaranteed to find a book worth reading that you haven't read yet! (Books wishlist)
6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related! Well, not a physical item, but I have an mp3! (Music wishlist)
7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! (keep this SFW, you know who you are...) Kitty nail caps! I have a sphynx, so I have to clip her nails roughly every week (otherwise when she scratches herself, she cuts herself up D:). Nail caps are a cute and more hassle-free way of dealing with her claws! (Kitty wishlist)
8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it. This one is pretty tough for me, actually--I love purposeful items! However, I already have a cheese grater, so this hedgehog shaped one isn't actually something I NEED--it's just so cool!! (Default wishlist)
9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why? Life is Beautiful. It's a sweet, touching, and heartbreaking story of a Jewish father trying to keep the joy in life in a concentration camp. It's laugh-out-loud funny, and so sad you'll cry. Definitely worth watching. (Movies wishlist)
10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain. Packaged, high-cal foods will be really helpful! You have to keep your energy up while you're on the run, and you need a portable snack! These cookies are sure to give you the extra boost you need to escape the zombies. (Default wishlist)
11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals. Hmmm this is a toss-up for me. I need a laptop for life. I have a little chromebook, but when I need to update my resumes and write cover letters, I need to go to the library to use an actual computer to make sure the formatting is right. A laptop would help with the job hunt and (hopefully) help land me a job! (Expensive things wishlist) My other goal, to become healthier, would be helped by wrist weights to wear during my runs! No, it's not a huge amount of weight, but it will make my runs that much more difficult and help tone my arms! It's a small change with a big impact :) (Default wishlist)
12.) One of those pesky Add-On items. Oh gosh, take your pick. Cat snuggie (kitty wishlist), sriracha (who doesn't love hot sauce?! Under $6 wishlist), a pumice stone (Under $6 wishlist), or a kitty laser toy! (kitty wishlist)
13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why? A $500 keyboard. I love playing piano, but I'm a young and flighty thing--I fully expect to be moving around a lot for the next 5-10 years, and I can neither afford an actual piano, nor can I imagine transporting one in and out of various apartments. This keyboard will give me the chance to practice and enjoy playing, but it's a much more compact and liveable way of doing so. (Expensive things wishlist)
14.) Something bigger than a bread box. A relatively cheap and yet still nice vacuum cleaner! Nice, easy to use, and practical :) (Expensive things)
15.) Something smaller than a golf ball. A storm trooper USB! Cute and practical! (Default wishlist)
16.) Something that smells wonderful. Lavender chamomile bubble bath! I don't know about you, but few things smell more relaxing to me than lavender and chamomile, so a combo bubble bath just sounds like bliss to me. (Default wishlist)
17.) A (SFW) toy. Here's a whole bag of toys! And less than $10 too! My kitty would have a field day with all those toys :) (Kitty wishlist!)
18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school. A lunch box! I always brought my lunch to school, so every year I got a cool new lunch box for that year :) These ones are super cute, and insulated! (Default wishlist)
19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be. I've had a life-long Disney obsession! (Movies wishlist) My whole bathroom is Mickey themed (default wishlist), and I'm always looking for cool new Disney items to add to my wishlist! I seriously love Disney.
20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand. You too can own the Sword of Gryffindor! (Expensive things wishlist) Not only do you get to wield the weapon that destroyed three pieces of Voldemort's soul, it's also pretty practical! It's a letter opener that you can proudly display resting in the hands of a lion :) (Expensive things wishlist)
Game of Thrones:
Someone probably already suggested this, but the GOT coloring book is pretty damn sweet
They also have a book to learn Dothraki
ohh! and this GOT letter opener is super neat, even though it's super random, but if you're anything like me, random is good
Blue Stuffs (right now I'm trying not to sing Eiffel 64):
These lights are pretty damn cool and they're remote control operated
If you're into baking, I HIGHLY recommend these spatulas. They work super well for their price
These headphones are kick ass. They're wireless and don't get tangled up all the time
History:
US president rubber ducks, 'cuz why not???
Drunk History Season 1 and 2. My favorite show ever
If world history is more of your thing, they have paintable terroctta soilder models which are pretty neat
Also thank you for this contest. I discovered some pretty cool shit.
Since the most wonderfull /u/Lauran2323 has summoned me, I'll list what I have in my place that I find super useful.
I have this in the kitchen, it holds the microwave and our champange and wine
I think it's a very cool tissue holder
You want this always readily available to you or a guest
Holds even more wine and double as a buffet in your dining room
Fans are huge if you want to save money by using an A/C less
Just to keep things organized on the fridge
It drives me nuts when people open letters like a christmas present
Also some sort of nice smelling candle - it'll make the place feel more like home.
As far as saving money - the urge to order out is immense. Try and cook as often as possible, it's cheaper and healthier. Except on Fridays. On Fridays you can eat pizza!!!!!!!
You should definitely get this. It's useful AND cool! I mean, come on. LOOK AT IT. YOU NEED THIS IN YOUR LIFE. YOU'RE NOT REALLY LIVING YET. THINK OF ALL THE LETTERS YET TO BE OPENED. YOU CAN MAKE SWORD-WIELDING NOISES WHILE YOU DO AND EVERYTHING.
As for me, I'd love this! For grinding and such. It's on my main list!
Thank you for the contest! I love bunnicula and I still have my copy of it. :D
There is an "ideal" for an athame, but diverging from the ideal for pragmatic purposes is completely acceptable. The ideal of an athame is a double-edged black handled knife about nine or thirteen inches in length (I have heard both, as well as a few other lengths).
Unless you are of a really picky tradition though, you can dismiss any of those details, but i think it helps to keep as many as you reasonably can. I would suggest not worrying about size, but instead find something that meats those criteria that is as non threatening as possible.
With that in mind, I would suggest something like this or this or this or something similar to any of these.
Balloons are fun! yup they sure are :)
I want you to have this because you labeled it as high priority and it's cool to open mail with a dagger.
The same item is ridiculously expensive on amazon.ca so instead, I want these pens from your wishlist :3
I hope you have an amazing birthday <3
This is the funniest prank I've ever seen. Sorry if anyone already posted these items, I'm too tired to check -
pink is the new black!
I prefer this miniature Sting sword. I know it says it's a letter opener, but trust me it's a sword. I haven't encountered any orcs on trail to confirm, but it's said that it glows blue in their presence. Could be useful, I guess.
Anyway, it's pretty light and it fits in my water bottle pocket, so there's that.
I have a letter opener that just slices it open very easily. It's not even about doing it carefully, it's just about using the right tool for the job. Do yourself a favor and pick some up.
Ram-Pro 3pc World's Most Efficient 3” Letter Opener Envelope Slitter Set https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B017O3F46K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_aQMQCb2H68Z4C
I fly a lot and have experienced similar problems. I've solved it by keeping one of these in my crochet bag. Never gotten hassled by security and as long as I'm not using any thick yarn, it works perfectly.
I use one like this. I got mine for free at the post office a while back. It's magnetic.
I’ve used a letter opener before.
this kind
But it doesn’t sound like it would be precision enough for you. If you fold the roll, I bet you’d get a pretty straight cut along the fold.
This method is really fast.
You can make a perfectly serviceable altar with a glass of water and a couple of candles. Essentially a boveda.
I make my wands - all you need is a bit of wood and a hobby knife.
All the crystals/stones I have here (apart from one big quartz sharp) I've picked up around the local hills or as pebbles on the beach. If I was looking for something specific that isn't found locally I'd use Amazon.
As it happens I made my own athame, but if that's not an option it should be straightforward to get hold of a letter opener which will do the job just fine. Remember the athame isn't used to cut things - that's what the hobby knife is for. Call it a boline if you're so minded.
You don't need a cauldron in the short term. Just keep your eyes open and something suitable will show up eventually. If you're impatient, Amazon will provide again.
I use a single-edge razor blade carried in a piece of folded cardboard (like from the back of a notepad).
I once did a post on some nifty blades in case anyone is interested.
Amazon has some Keychain Box Cutters and/or Mini Retractable Utility Knives and probably a lot more stuff that I didn't see.
Your price is too high.
1.) It is selling for $29 on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/THE-HOBBIT-STING-Letter-Opener/dp/B009OANBH6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1419442766&sr=8-1&keywords=The+Hobbit+Letter+Opener+Sting
2.) The ones that sold went for less than you have it listed. Or wait and see if the price ever increases.
Either lower your price or put best offer on there.
Slightly cheaper Amazon version. 👌
Well, my first suggestion is to buy exactly that, then.

Have you tried to clean the hair off the brushes using this type of letter opener? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016QTXIG6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Ji5SCbJFS9AVS
Personally I've found these types of letter openers very handy for safety cutting apart mats:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016QTXIG6/ref=s9_acsd_top_hd_bw_b4UBq_c_x_1_w?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-3&pf_rd_r=J70E9SFFSXPN4GTCY9W6&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=9db0b260-27d4-5fd6-bce5-f1bdc71556d6&pf_rd_i=1069366
A letter opener that looks kinda like this
It depends on the letter opener. Mine certainly isn't intimidating. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017O3F46K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_ArGcAb5FT7V3G
A knife style letter opener is basically a knife. I am not sure what type of office you work in but I have literally never seen someone use a knife type letter opener. From fancy investment banking to tech, not once have I seen one.
Amazon sells one very similar to this as well. I bought mine from there. Mine has the sword in a stone with the triforce emblem instead of on a pedestal.
Edit: here it is
http://www.amazon.com/Harry-Potter-Gryffindor-Letter-Opener/dp/B002CIC0Y2
That settles it, I now know what I must get for myself if I ever make it to being a fellow.

Legend of Zelda Hylian Blue Master Sword Letter Opener https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QVZVZSY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_A6fzCbB0D8AMV
I found something that might do. It's a letter opener, but a guy in the reviews shows it with his 1/6 scale Eddard Stark figure. https://www.amazon.com/Game-Thrones-Ice-Letter-Opener/dp/B00G35795K
https://www.amazon.com/THE-HOBBIT-STING-Letter-Opener/dp/B009OANBH6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1485300118&sr=8-1&keywords=sting+letter+opener
These work too
Seam rippers are so small, envelope cutters are bigger and have a long leading pointy bit for getting under the hair, if it breaks - no big deal, they're cheap.
You have no idea how badly I want this.
And those are so awesome!! I am way impressed.
Some gifts that may be appropriate for your mail person during Christmas and such: (Not too expensive so you don't run the risk of being accused of attempting to bribe a federal employee and non-food because one does not know their dietary requirements):
