    To be honest if I had to give away half my shoes tonight, it would be an easy choice. A lot of the cheaper shoes I got in college when I was figuring out my style. I'm a lot more specific in what I want now and what I need for work and leisure, so my purchases reflect that.
    
    Take your time to buy what you like and don't be afraid to resell stuff or give shoes away to your brother or friends. That whole minimalist thing about how to tidy up by Marie Kondo applies a lot to clothes imo. There are dudes who own shoes worth five times what my collection but they might just like collecting. I make a point to wear my shoes or else I give them away (I'll be giving my beeswax desert boots and Keds to my brother once spring hits)

Mental shopping! I had fun pulling up pics, so I'm sure another chick would have even more fun taking you shopping in person.

Think lots of different pieces that you can mix up and wear different ways. If you keep everything in a similar color range, this gets easy. Think greys and earth tones. One of the best dressed men I've ever worked with kept things extremely simple, and always looked great.

Shirts: You always need a couple of dress shirts. Like these, Doesn't have to be wildly expensive, but make sure it fits. Most menswear stores offer a tailoring service, or can recommend one. Some business casual shirts, and sweaters or pullovers. Don't go crazy about color, get some that can be worn alone or under a couple of casual or professional blazer.

Pants. Neutral color, flat-front, and tailored to fit.

Some good pairs of shoes: Casual, or a little more classic. (The retro sneaks you link to below are cool.)

At least one good suit. Trust me on this.

I would recommend them. Pretty comfortable, I wear them pretty often and they last me through a S/S, maybe two if I rotate them more. Goes with shorts and polos. Don't wear them with socks, but they kinda start to smell if you wear them too often.

Use Amazon to buy them. I would recommend Sahara or Brown for versatility. And I know amazon does 20% off codes that you can get for subscribing to their email promotions.
Alternatively, these L.L Bean Camp Mocs are pretty cool if you're not feeling the Sperrys. Sometimes they offer a 10% discount or someone has a gift card that's about to expire and you can get them then. I don't personally own a pair, but they look nice to me

Came here to say this too... I'm trying to be helpful and give you a few good tips to make you look drastically smarter.

you need a better fitting suit, also that vest doesn't look good, choose a better color that matches the suit. Additionally, the tie is not the right choice as well, go for something less glossy/flashy and something more traditional. Also I think your shirt sleeves are a bit long, its alright if they come out about half an inch from the suit jacket sleeve. Also the shoes... try going with bally or bruno magli. If you like the style of shoes that you are wearing you could get these. I own a pair.

I need some help finding a good business-casual shoe. I've already read the popular guides on this subreddit but I'm still having trouble.

Ok, so my shoe size is around 10.5 or 11. I'm in my late 20s, my height is about 6'0, I am fairly slim, and wear slimmer cut pants. Because of this, I find that a lot of dress shoes look ridiculous on me.. there's not enough pant to cover them, so they look long and clownish. I've read that loafers are a good way to go for slimmer pants and a more business-casual look, but I'd really like some specific suggestions, and maybe other shoe-types as well.

I think that the ascot is a bit too much, if you want to stand out a bit maybe a handkerchief (1 2) with an interersting pattern is a better idea?
Not a big fan of the shoes either, I think something made entirely of the same kind of leather would look better, like these or these (I know nothing about these excact shoes, just liked how they looked better than the ones you linked).

  ninjaedit: A lot of "probably"s but there is a number of factors that decide on what looks good in different settings.

I have had these Dansko Wayne slip-ons for 5 years now (wearing them about 4 days in a week), and they have held up remarkably well. I'm not sure I'd call them dress shoes (to me, dress shoes need laces), but they look good with both casual pants and dress slacks. There is some scuffing on the outer leather, but I also have never polished them. I have a wider foot and high arches, and this remains one of the few shoes that feel comfortable all day. The non-slip is a nice feature too. Not sure about BIFL status, but it's at least a buy over a 5-7 year lifespan, pretty good for the price point.

I work in a pretty lax business casual environment - jeans are ok, but collared shirt is recommended, especially if we have clients coming to the office.

Other than upping my spend on shirts, shoes, and pants (and getting back into shape), is there anything else I can do to look better/bring more personal style into the office?

Currently I just dress black/blue denim or khakis and a shirt that goes with the pants (blue jeans with a grey shirt with an understated colorful pattern today, for example).

I have a nice pair of shoes/belt but I'm not super convinced they'd last for daily wear, and a decent watch but I often forget to wear it.

Also, anyone know a quality brand that makes rally moccossins like these Merrells (preferably in a light brown/reddish brown like the 'espresso' color)? I love the sole wrapping around the heel for resting by the pedals in a car. Hands down favorite shoes ever owned.

I have used sketchers for many years because they are familiar, affordable and convenient. However, often after six months, they are worn out. I often try to stretch to a full year but shouldn't. I also experience a lot of pain walking by the end of my shift and then about 12 hours after my shift. I even have custom inserts to support my arch.

A coworker of mine highly suggested dansko. He claims they are comfortable after breaking them in and they last him five years.

It seems like 90% of people here are posting crews for shoes and sketchers. Are they both similar quality? I am sure some models are better than others for each.

Also, if a person can get comfortable shoes that last 3 to 5 years for $150, that is definitely better than uncomfortable shoes that last six months for $50.

As another lace-phobe, I can tell you that the selection of styles with MFA-approval is slim.

Casual shoes are one thing. Find a pair of laceless Vans and you're good to go. Boat shoes don't require lacing either, but probably aren't appropriate with dress pants. The choices of casual in the laceless department are legion.

For more formal, Penny loafers could work, but if you're afraid that the shoes posted a few comments above are old-mannish (P.S. they're not), I don't think you'd be into that. I'm not a fan either though, so I can't blame you.

Monk straps are great, super stylish and fit the laceless criterion, but it's hard to find a decent pair for less than $300. Serious. I've got my eye on these when I can scrape the change together.

However, if you're not into quality, these black suede ones might fit the bill.

Another option might be these Steve Maddens. As a brand they're a smallish notch above Aldo. I've had the ones I'm wearing now for 4 months as my everyday shoe and the sole probably won't wear through for another 4-6, which is about twice as long as any pair of Aldo shoes I've gotten have lasted. The style I've got is similar to but better than the ones you posted, but they predate some substantial shifting of my taste in shoes under MFA's influence.

Unfortunately the shoe itself has some shitty distressing going on. However, although the color says "Black Suede" I'm pretty sure the upper is in fact leather, so maybe you could get some color polish and attempt to make them look reasonable. Probably not worth the effort.

I had a similar uniform im training for a job. If done wrong you can look like a busboy/valet. Things to focus on: belt, watch, shoes. You have to make sure your shirt and pants fit obviously.

But you can add a touch of personality with your watch and belt. Keep everything black since your shoes are black.

Black leather belt with a gold or silver face. If you get a black leather watch, make sure the metal matches your belt ( gold with gold, silver with silver). You could get black alligator or lizard watch/belt for extra pizzaz. I wore a gold pinky ring but that was personal taste , its up to you.


As for your shoes: i would go with black captoe oxfords but thats the most formal and would look better with a full suit. You could always get derbys or loafers but please please don't get any cheap, square toed, rubber soled shoes. Your shoes are the most important part. It will make or break you, but also i understand its just for work.

Make sure you keep them shined and make sure your shirt is always crisp and not wrinkled

They aren't really the same thing as the Puma Speed Cats, but they are perfect for casual use and as long as you get a good fit, very good for driving.

I like my Timberland Mt. Kiscos. They look professional enough, but the soles are thick - much like what you'd find on a pair of sneakers, and the included inserts are pretty decent. I wouldn't wear them for strenuous activity, but I'm a pretty large guy and after wearing them for a year they still look and feel good.

I'm sure someone else can speak for how good of a deal this is specifically at Bass but I will say this was the cheapest I could find for the size and color I wanted by $10 or so.

I have Aldo Tuberman's that get a lot of wear. They look better than this on my feet, definitely not as "deflated" if that makes sense. They're not for everyone but they've held up well since I got them last summer. I really like my pair of burgundy Florsheim penny loafers. I also love my colorful Van Doren's.

Now if I only I had more money to upgrade to a higher price point!

I play standing 90% of the time. I stand for pretty much any performance on my keyboard which can often be multi-hour gigs, though I keep a stool handy for downtime. I sit anytime I'm playing an acoustic instrument though.

But for practice, I'm pretty much always standing. Most of the instruments I practice in a day, I'm standing. I spend most of that time at the keyboard, but I also spend a good deal of time playing accordion (which seems to tax my back rather than my feet) and trumpet while also dabbling in other winds for fun. I do all of that standing. The only thing I sit to play are fretted strings. Considering playing music is my day job, I'm basically standing up most of my day.

And despite all that, my feet don't hurt... but they used to. A big part of the solution was just shoes. I started paying way more attention to good footwear, especially since I'm flat footed. Exercise and weight loss also helped some.

Basically, when I was younger my body could take more abuse and I might not've noticed the negative effects of terrible footwear and then like, but it started to become a nagging concern and I took care of it and everything is fine now.

I mostly wear supportive running shoes. Dress shoes can be harder to deal with. But for practice I was getting tired of always having to put on sock and tie my shoes (super first world problem) so I looked around for suggestions for the types of people who stand all day at retail type jobs. And now this is my practice shoe. It's very comfortable and not absolutely hideous (though I wouldn't care if it was).

What kind of shoes can be worn with creased work pants (i.e. Dockers)? I know Oxfords are pretty obvious, but I'd like to find something more casual and comfortable.
