Do you have a bit of a budget to get started? If so, I have a shopping list for you! I’d recommend investing in a good cooler bag, like this one, a bag strap for balance (your cooler is going to be heavy and this will keep your luggage nicely balanced as long as you aren’t lugging it up carpeted inclines—looking at you MCO), some oven, freezer, and microwave safe Tupperware (another option I haven’t tried are collapsible silicone containers, which would be lighter than the glass ones), an ice bag, an immersion water heater, and some travel utensils because you never know when you won’t be able to find them on the go.

Now let’s start packing your lunch bag! TSA will allow frozen food as long as it’s not a liquid like soup. So cook up some healthy meals and freeze them in your fancy new containers. They also allow frozen gel packs as long as they aren’t leaking, but not all hotels have fridges let alone freezers, so the ice bag is a better bet (or addition if you want to add a gel pack along the bottom of your cooler). You can refresh your ice bag from the hotel ice machine and by asking for cups of ice from airport restaurants (you may have to pay a couple cents for the cup, or sometimes even the price of a drink, but it’s worth it to keep your food fresh and delicious). I’d empty the ice bag before security and fill it again after, but you could ask a TSA person if they’ll allow it though before dumping it out.

When you get to the hotel, you can use the ice bucket as a container to heat up your food (assuming they don’t have a microwave, that is) with the immersion water heater. Most of the glass Tupperware aren’t shaped well for this, so I’ll transfer the food to one of the glass coffee cups from the hotel and surround it by water just below the brim. Remember to wash the cup first because they can be gross. Also pack some ziplocks to heat your food in just in case they don’t have glass coffee cups. Here is an image of someone using this method in case my explanation isn’t clear. Personally, once the water boils I put the lid on, hit the gym, and come back to a warm meal! Depending how dense the food is you may want to do two rounds of boiling water, or let it boil longer. (Forgot an immersion water heater? Backup option is to use the coffee maker to make cups of hot water, but this is a tedious process). If you have a vacuum sealer, that could be another way to pack and heat your food.

Other things I like to carry are instant oats, string cheese, apples, mandarin oranges, bananas (in a banana saver), carrots, protein bars, protein shakes (been eyeing these but haven’t tried them), fruit leather, nuts, squeezable peanut butter, and dried fruit. If you’re weighing foods, remember to do it before you leave and make a note or take a pic of the food on the scale.

All this gear is a big investment, but I calculated it in terms of airport meals. A standard airport meal averages $10+ so if I can avoid eating even one each trip the bag and accessories will pay for themselves quickly.

It takes a while to get a routine for eating well on the road but I know you can do it! Don’t beat yourself up for meals out with coworkers or clients—I try to budget for social calories because eating and drinking together can be an important way to get to know people better, and your social, mental, and emotional health are all just as important as your physical health. That said, you can still stick to healthier options from the menu more often than not so that meals out don’t derail your progress.

Most of our gifts were replacements or upgrades of things we already owned. A really cheap and awesome gift we got was this stainless steel scraper, which makes it so much easier to transfer food from a cutting board to a pot/pan. We also got a matching set of this luggage belt with a TSA lock--I actually gifted one to my husband years ago, but we used this as an opportunity to replace his now worn-down belt. We also replaced our kitchen scale with this Amazon Basics one, which works really well. Another Amazon Basics item we received was this paper shredder, which is a kickass workhorse of a machine.
One of the first gifts we got was a Corelle dish set that I LOVE--it's so much lighter and more durable than the stoneware set we were using. We also replaced our silverware set with an Oneida set that we both picked out, which was a very sweet and meaningful experience. We already have a nice Oneida silverware set, but it belonged to my husband's late mother, and he wanted to retire it so it wouldn't take any more wear & tear.
Those are all gifts that were my hands-down favorite things we received. We were also able to buy two expensive items off our registry thanks to Amazon's completion discount. We purchased a Sonos soundbar and a Miele vacuum that were absolutely worth every penny we spent on them!

I want to try something new. I collect anime stuff. I dunno if that counts as a hobby or not. My room is filled with all different things, my parents think its a waste of money, my friends think its cool and I just really enjoy it. Me and my cousin go to DragonCon every year and we have a contest to see who can get the coolest anime-related item for below $20. SFBags can make you a custom sleeve for the P50. I have one for my T460s and really like it. For my P50 I am using an old Booq bag, which is a tight squeeze but paired with a new OPTECH SOS strap I am confident it will be protected well (especially from a broken strap/hook - which has happened to me and a coworker before).

Has anyone found a solution for padding tote bag straps so they're more comfortable and non-slip? I just bought the Knomo Maddox and I mostly like it except the straps are a bit uncomfortable. I'm looking for something with more padding than these stick-on straps but less bulky/wide than the snap-on or velcro-on pads designed for messenger bags straps. Any solutions?

This wine carafe would hold my wine for when we are drinking during dinner (full school experience). I would imagine I may be able to use the bottle to store potions, if needed.

This umbrella resembles the shape of a broom with it I would be able to keep myself dry when it rains, and possibly would be able to substitute it for flying, if I could figure out how.

If I had this kit, I could learn to crochet myself a hat. The hat would clearly be needed for days when it is chilly and we are doing outdoor activities, like gathering stuff for spells.

In between studies, I will need a book to help pass the time. What better than a book with murder and magic!

People carry stuff in their trunk. They also carry stuff in luggage. I will need luggage to bring things to school. I will also need these straps to keep my trunk/luggage closed, and to make sure I can identify which is mine. Obvious necessity. =)

So I have this towel, which could clearly be used as a cape. It may say yoga towel by definition, but a towel is a towel. I will have to shower sometime, and no one wants to just drip dry.

Price seems reasonable enough to me as a ready to build kit that contains everything you need. You're looking at ~£95 for all the parts excluding the waterproof case and the custom mounting plates. You can probably squeeze the price down on some of the items if you searched a little more than the few minutes I did and you can swap the RPi A+ for a RPi Zero but you'll need the RPi Zero camera adapter if you do that.

first, a camera watching your stoop/porch should deter.

second, I have a friend who built a drop-box using a deck box and a suitcase latch . he says the delivery guys often forget to lock it, but since the package is out of sight, they haven't had anything stolen.

Faster? Yeah, a little. Just get good straps.

One of the folks I used to SUP with spent a ton of money on a damned board but for straps he couldn't be bothered to pry open his wallet to spend a few bucks. Used rope instead, lost a board on the highway and a pickup hit it.

Get yourself a wide band luggage strap

I carry my F5 with a 35-70/2.8 lens on one of these all day long without any discomfort.

Even better, if you buy a big strap that is colored and wraps around the entire suitcase, it will contain the contents of your suitcase in the even the latches or zipper fails.

I use this to add more cushion for the current strap.

Most people only have a lock on their zipper-pull if they have a lock at all. Even if it's not a TSA employee and a baggage handler instead, it's super easy to get into a suitcase that's locked like that. Here's a video showing how: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5mvvZl6pLI

You can prevent an attack like that by getting a luggage strap with a lock like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Travel-Luggage-Approved-Adjustable-Suitcase/dp/B0732N9K4K so that if the zipper is compromised, it can't be opened w/o cutting the strap -- which can still be done, but it raises the barrier to entry thus making it less desirable for someone to try, and less likely your bag will accidentally open due to a popped zipper that might give someone enough of a "crime of opportunity" push.

Sorry to hear about your medical condition putting a crimp into your travels. Look for piggyback luggage to easily maneuver two check-in pieces yourself. It isn’t airports where you should worry about two suitcases, but outside the airport. If you already have check in luggage, then there are straps to convert them into piggyback/stacking luggage. Get one for the check in luggage, a second for your backpack, and a third for replacing one when you forget it at the airport/hotel. If you use these, then get in the habit of either storing them in your backpack or in/on the luggage, but never detached from the luggage; that’s the fastest way to lose them.

If you know for certain you are up for the expenses or physical challenges of moving two suitcases and your carry on luggage through public transit and/or through the streets of a new city trying to find your next lodging, then you’re all set. If your expectations are not appropriately set however, then you might find it lifestyle-changingly unpleasant dragging your luggage train through a couple blocks because your taxi dropped you off at the wrong location and there is no Uber and no taxis around.

So some alterations in how you travel may be in order. Like always having someone on your phone while you pull up to your destination and describing to them what landmarks you see to confirm you’re at the right place. Which implies you’re either actively tracking your ride instead of absorbing a new location, or telling your driver ahead of time to charge you time to wait while you verify with someone you got to the right location.
