I first started wearing makeup in college around age 20. I'm (3 days away from turning) 25 now and I also picked up a lot of my tips from youtubers! Although I have to say, I tried some real duds in the beginning years. I admire beautiful makeup looks just as much as the next viewer but I wish I had kept in mind that they have different skin conditions as me and a lot of youtubers use filters and/or strong lights.

I started to wear makeup because I tried some skincare products that I was horribly allergic to and I was starting to feel very insecure about my complexion. Before establishing a makeup routine, I strongly recommend looking into building the best possible skincare routine first. It doesn't really matter what your makeup looks like honestly as long as you like how it turns out. It takes practice to finally get to a point where you're happy with your technique and turnout, I personally think this is a part of the fun!

I would still try to make sure your products and tools are hygienic are clean and spot test face products on your neck before wearing it on your face for hours. In addition, be gentle around your eyes since the skin is very delicate there. If I could tell me earlier self anything is to invest in better eye makeup and not rub my eyes. In terms of specific products for a beginner, I recommend exploring for a very good base product (bb cream/tinted moisturizer/foundation) plus eyebrow and lash products!

My current makeup routine is sunscreen/primer > foundation/concealer/powder> bronzer/blush/highlight > 2 color eyeshadow > eyebrows > mascara/eyeliner > maybe a lipcolor. This seems like a lot but it typically takes me 15 minutes or less to finish, it's part of my morning routine that I really enjoy. If I don't need to go to work or see anyone, I just put on sunscreen and if I somehow forget or run late, I just put on sunscreen, mascara and brush my eyebrows.

Most of my favorite products are not AB, unfortunately a lot of products I've tried have too much fragrance for my skin's liking. Two of my favorites are this KISSME mascara and the shu uemura hard formula eyebrow pencil. Peripera's lip products are pretty good and has a variety of finishes and colors but honestly I hoarded a bunch because their packaging is cute.

  1. I am grateful for my parents because they are the most generous people I know and I am incredibly lucky to have them.

  2. I am grateful for my college education because a lot of people aren't that fortunate.

  3. I am grateful for my kitty boos because he is amazing and awesomesauce and the best cat ever. You don't even want to enter this showdown.

  4. I am grateful for my friends; they live far away but are always down for a road trip to come see me no matter what!

  5. I am grateful for my bed because it is awesome and I love it and it doesn't judge me for staying in it all day.

Whoops! Got trigger happy and forgot the item. This or a gift card would be wonderful. And thanks for the awesome contest =)

I too only wear mascara and liner and if you're not trying bold colors I have a ton of suggestions. People are always commenting on my makeup and I don't have great skin, but lotions, foundations, and powders always make me break out:

Mascara -

  • all of the Benefit They're Real Mascaras. This only links to black, but blue is my FAVORITE and brown is nice too.
  • All Hard Candy colored mascaras - one, two
  • Loreal Colored mascara (you can find them in other colors sometimes too)

    Eyeliners -

  • Inglot AMC gel liners these are amazing and last forever, but I'm super allergic. I have 20 of them - bittersweet, but I still use them sometimes.
  • NYX vivid bright eyeliners also last a long time, favorites are blue, red & darker green
  • Suva Hydra Liners I'm absolutely dying for these liners, but haven't tried them yet
  • Prestige Liquid liners These are my go-to easy to put on and take off liners (favorite for close to ~15 years)
  • Prestige Against all odds liquid liners Also my go to last ALL DAY liners!
  • I'm also really fond of magenta/burgundy and greens liners (I have brown eyes)

    Foundations -

  • I use physicians formula powders (without spf if I can help it) and I like them most. Sometimes I feel like they actually help current breakouts, but sometimes I also feel like I break out more than I might a couple of days later, but I've tried a few different brands and these are my favorite. They also don't oxidize on me and stay pretty consistent.

So your best best is to get stuff from Amazon Prime. Since you don’t typically wear makeup, I think a simple look will work best for you. I’d stay away from foundation since if you’re not used to wearing it, it can feel heavy and itchy. Concealer would be good to try though, a little bit under your eyes and on any blemishes will even out your complexion without it being too much—try this: L.A. Girl Pro Conceal HD Concealer, Light Ivory, 0.28 Ounce https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VKIJPNE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_CPxXAbWJPHCHC

For eyeshadow, I like to blend a matte brown in my crease and then put a shimmery skin-tone color on my lid to make my eyes pop. I’ve heard good things about this one: wet n wild Color Icon Eyeshadow 10 Pan Palette, Rose in the Air, 0.3 Ounce https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077V5CTXN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_rWxXAb163N4AT

I use this mascara and it works well: L'Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Washable Mascara, Blackest Black, 0.28 fl. oz. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XF2TR11/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_63xXAb0DTNT87

I like to use a glowy blush to make my skin look healthy, something like this: Milani Baked Blush, Luminoso, 0.12 Ounce https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00518N2JC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_f9xXAbC4MPGHM

And lastly, I like a tinted lip balm to tie everything together. These look really pretty and taste good too! Revlon Kiss Lip Balm, Juicy Peach https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KI40DHM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_4byXAbANQY65A

These can all also be bought at drug stores, so if Amazon isn’t an option, I’d see if you can get a grocery service to pick them up for you, like Instacart maybe. Good luck!

Pixiwoo makes some good tutorials, although I wouldn't really call them basic but they still might help.

Here is a list of some of my makeup staples. The stuff I don't get at Sephora I pick up at Target or CVS.

Chanel Double Perfection foundation.

NARS Blush I've loved every NARS product I've tried.

Physicians Formula Eyeliner. Just a swipe on your upper lid is pretty easy to do and makes a big difference.

Laura Mercier Brow Pencil. This makes such a huge difference for my face, my brows are thin due to years of overplucking but when I fill them in and shape them a bit it makes a world of difference. It can be a little tricky making a good shape but here is the tutorial I used to learn how to do mine (I don't use that little brush thingee she uses though, I just use a Q-tip after to blend it just a tad).
http://youtu.be/x1deBiR4d0Y

Sephora Brand Bronzer in Los Cabos. It looks really dark but I'm pretty pale and a light dusting of this during summer gives me just enough tint to make a difference but not look ruddy.

Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies

REVLON Colorburst Lip Butters.

NARS Lipstick

If you're going to make a Sephora trip I suggest going on the website and compiling a wish list of thing you want to check out. Depending on the size of your Sephora it can be a little overwhelming. I highly recommend the Sephora brand products too, they're usually pretty cheap and I've loved nearly everything I've tried.

Hey there girl! I don't see any makeup answers yet in the comments, so I'll tackle that question.

Makeup Starter Kit

  1. My coming out process ended up moving much more rapidly than I expected and I was out to most all of my friends and some of my family within a couple of months of accepting that I was trans. Once I stopped being ashamed of it, it all just started to flow. The only serious coming out conversation I have left is with my dad, which I'm intentionally delaying because he's going through a lot right now and it will almost certainly result in our estrangement.

  2. My therapist and my friends, absolutely without a doubt. Supportive friends make a huge difference. They let you see what life can be like, which gives you the hope you need to keep going.

  3. I'm not sure what island you're on, but I did some searching and found the Rainbow Family 808, who in turn had the Lavender Clinic listed as a resource. They're based out of Honolulu, but if that doesn't work for you, I'd call the Rainbow Family directly and explain that you're trying to look for a gender therapist and wanted to know if they had any recommendations near where you live.

Good luck! Feel free to comment or PM me if you have any questions.
u/saint_gutfree · 2 pointsr/RandomActsofMakeup

My current mascara is MAC's Plush Lash, and I don't have a picture specifically showing my results, but here's a great Temptalia review. I really enjoy this mascara, as I'm a big fan of mascaras that just give a natural, "plush" look rather than being ultra lengthening and thickening. However, I've been dying to try out either Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara or Tarte Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara. They both have the bigger, fluffier brush that I prefer, and they both have awesome reviews.

I'm a Baking & Pastry major, hopefully trying for a career in making ice creams and sorbets, and in my spare time I work at the concessions stand at a 76 year old indie movie theater :)

u/howbadcanIbe · 2 pointsr/RandomActsofMakeup

violetslashes - did you mean violet's lashes, or violet slashes?! lol ;) jk.

I love that you did this giveaway.

I am ALWAYS on the search for new mascara that's better than the last ...it's an ongoing thing. This thread gives me so many ideas! I'm saving it haha

Right now, I use either NYX's Doll Eyes, or Rimmel's Lash Accelerator . I love, love them. Gives volume and length, and never clumps. But I don't like that with both of them, my eyes will start to itch if I wear the mascara longer than 7 or 7.5 hours, or if I fall asleep without taking it off. Like serious itch. That will last for days. So as long as I wash it off at the end of my day, I'm good.

I cannot stand and get no benefit whatsoever of Maybelline Great Lash. Have tried it a few times over the last 15 years or so. Never once was I impressed in the least.

I've also liked the combination of this l'oreal and this one. I'm a drug store girl that's testing the waters with other brands in all aspects of makeup.

u/K8eCastle · 4 pointsr/CFBOffTopic

If you're fairly new to makeup I'd look into a tinted moisturizer, face powder, a natural blush, and mascara for starters. You definitely don't want to start off too strong, especially if you don't typically wear makeup.

  • Tinted moisturizer is great because it isn't heavy and is pretty easy to match to your skin tone since it isn't very opaque. It gives your skin a little color without appearing caked on. This can be applied with a sponge or even with your fingers if you prefer. I like this one a lot!

  • Face powder is great if you have oily skin. You can get translucent powder or one that has color in it. It's best to apply with a large, fluffy brush but sometimes they will come with a pouf that works as well. This is a great loose powder.

  • Blush will give your face a little color. It's hard to recommend a shade since I don't know your skin tone, but Maybelline makes really nice blushes that are pigmented, but not so much that you will look like a clown with just a touch.

  • Mascara will make your eyes look more open and awake without overpowering them. You can even get brown for a more natural look! This one is my current favorite!
u/aelfaerie · 1 pointr/RandomActsofMakeup

Congratulations on your win! A win is still counts as a win, so it's still pretty exciting for you!

I would love to try out fiber mascaras, like this one by L'Oreal. I have stick straight, sparse lashes, and finding a truly volumizing mascara is so hard.

u/sodappend · 3 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

It depends how stubborn your lashes are about it. If they really like drooping Japanese mascaras are amazing, both at holding a curl and never smudging on my oily lids. Heroine Make mascara is one of the most popular and easily accessible (It's usually on Amazon for between $12-$25; I wouldn't pay more than $20 as this is a drugstore brand.) It needs an oil-based cleanser to come off; do not get the super waterproof version, the regular is waterproof enough even if it isn't advertised as such. Other brands I can recommend are Fairy Drops and Majolica Majorca.

L'oreal Lash Paradise is supposed to be a dupe for BTS but it seems quite a few people think it's even better, so that might be one to try! My friend really likes it.

Do you curl your lashes? Just asking as this doesn't seem to be too popular a thing to do nowadays but it really does make a huge difference.

u/titstank · 4 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Sounds like the wrong mascara to me. I personally use this or this depending on the day, both from Physicians Formula. I have really sensitive eyes and this one is fantastic. Does not flake at all, and very easy to get off. The reviews on Amazon I'm actually shocked by. I adore these. The pink one is great because it seriously makes you look like you're wearing false lashes. It's fantastic. The silver one is amazing as well, but for a completely different reason. It looks much more natural and sweet. They're both fantastic, highly, highly recommended. I just use a facial cleansing wipe to get it off later (make sure it's eye friendly though). No problems with these at all for me.

u/qwertbug · 1 pointr/LatinMUA

It sounds like we have the same issue with eyelashes. If I use wet formula mascara they uncurl as well. After Apple Mascara changed their brush (though I suspect they might have changed the formula a bit too), I asked on /r/makeupaddicts for dry formula mascara recommendations because I feel that's what the Apple mascara formula was. I tried covergirl lash blast, which worked just fine but it made my eyes water then I found my new favorite heroine make mascara. It's from Japan, so I can only find it on Amazon or eBay, but the formula reminds me so much of the old Apple mascara. You should check it out if you have a chance.

You're right that the Jordana sold in stores in the US is different. My mom uses their eyeliner pencils and the ones here feel cheaper. She has good luck finding them at Asian markets.

That's the awesome that Dollar General is carrying Apple mascara now. Maybe they'll start carrying the scented ones. Which is your favorite? Did you ever try their liquid eyeliner? I used to use it regularly as a teen but it would peel right off! I've never encountered that with any other liquid liner.

u/tryin4anon · 2 pointsr/RandomActsofMakeup

I should use the priority selector but I don't use it as much as I should. If you're asking for real what my top 5 are, I'm sure they change with time, but right now

u/One_of_a_Kind · 3 pointsr/AustralianMakeup

Palette: LORAC PRO ($US42) and/or LORAC pocket PRO (US$15), plus about US$6 shipping. I Frequently use the pocket PRO on the train to school (also a teacher). Their eye primer is very very good and it will not budge. If you want something with the most amazing staying power, I just got a MAC paint pot in Constructivist (AU$35).

Mascara: Maybelline the Falsies (AU$17 chemist warehouse) or LORAC PRO mascara (US$23). Yes, I really like LORAC.

Lipstick: No high end favourites here, but I really like Revlon's Colorburst Lip Butters (AU$17 chemist warehouse). They are very creamy. They don't stay on all day, but they fade evenly and don't look patchy or sit in your lip cracks. My "lips but better" colour is 001 Pink Truffle.

Eyebrows: I cannot help here as I get mine tinted once a month along with my eyelashes. I really like not having to spend the time to deal with them in the morning. I used to use Great Cuts at Erina Fair but moved on to someone who lives a whole street away!

u/itsnotgoingtohappen · 5 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I made a shopping list. Pick one substitute instead of a splurge and you come in under $250. The splurges I picked are well worth the cost, though. Note also that the chocolate bar palette is the only one I listed because it's pretty much the be-all-end-all of palettes for its simultaneous pops of flattering colors and neutrality. I also believe everyone should have a gorgeous red lippie. Enjoy!

Brushes:

  • Real Techniques Starter Set - $13.49 on Amazon, normally $17.99
  • Real Techniques Core Collection - $13.49 on Amazon, normally $17.99

    Foundations:

  • Maybelline New York Baby Skin Primer, $5.99 on Amazon
  • Pond's Luminous Finish BB Cream, $8.95 on Amazon, normally $10.00
  • Splurge item: Too Faced Cocoa Powder Foundation, $34 at toofaced.com
  • Strong Substitute: ULTA Mineral Powder Foundation, $14 at ULTA

    Face & Contouring:

  • ULTA Baked Bronzer, $10 at ULTA
  • theBalm Bahama Mama $14 at Amazon
  • Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush Pink Plum, $5.59 at Amazon
  • If you don't like cream blush, NYX Powder Blush in Desert Rose, $6 on Amazon
  • e.l.f. Shimmering Facial Whip LILAC PETAL, $5-6 on Amazon, but I think it's like $3 at Target

    Eyes:

  • Splurge item: Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette, $49 at toofaced.com
  • Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion, $12 sample size at urbandecay.com (the sample size has lasted me forever)
  • Splurge item: Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, $23 at toofaced.com
  • Substitute: Rimmel Scandal Eyes Mascara, $6.99 on Amazon
  • NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil set with Black Bean,Milk, and Yogurt, $13 on Amazon
  • Splurge item: stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner, $20 on Amazon
  • Substitute: NYX Felt Tip Liner, $8 on Amazon
  • NYX Eyebrow Cake Powder, $6 on Amazon

    Lippies:

  • Splurge: MAC Russian Red, $16 at MACcosmetics.com
  • Substitute: Revlon Really Red - I couldn't find this on Amazon reliably, but check drug stores.
  • Basically any NYX lippie is great to start out and they range from about $4-8. Find one in your fave color at target or ULTA.

Edit: Forgot eyebrows. Darn. Still can come under $250 with the right substitutions.

My skincare routine is not complicated and I am actually hoping to expand it in the future.

Morning

  • Cleanse with water in the shower

  • Moisturize with Cetaphil lotion

  • Apply SPF 30 sunscreen

  • Apply makeup as usual

    Night

  • Remove most of my makeup and chemically exfoliate with Stridex Max in the red box (Thanks, /r/skincareaddiction! The salicylic acid really seems to help keep my rosacea papules to a minimum

  • Remove any leftover eye makeup with CVS brand remover and Q-tip

  • Moisturize with cetaphil lotion

  • Apply Mary Kay Timewise eye cream

That's basically it, but I want to try oil cleansing method sometime and find a regular cleanser to use. It's just a lot easier for me to use wipes (I'm kinda lazy). And I'd also like to add in masks from time to time. But I just started back with the Stridex so I'm going to wait a while before putting anything else in there.

    Thanks for hosting!

I have long lashes too and I really enjoy Lorac PRO Mascara. It's a little expensive but Ulta sometimes runs it on sale for $10. If you're looking for something cheaper I would try Covergirl Lash Blast Fusion. It works really great as well! :)

Hey, nice to meet you, fellow Erin! We have a lot in common.

If it’s in your budget, check out the Milk Makeup solid facial oil stick. I finally bit the bullet on it a couple of weeks ago, and it’s made an even bigger positive difference than TO squalane for my dry skin. Part of my affection for it might be due to the stick format, which I just love love love in skincare and makeup, but I do think it’s a really special product.

Also, mascara link! Sometimes they offer coupons you can clip for up to $3 off:

I don't like wine but these are so adorable and the colors are nice, so I think I need to get one haha.

Looking on Amazon I only saw the lip tints and since I don't like lip tints I looked around got links for the lipsticks. Here they are:

KPopTown

beautyboxkorea

Memebox with two of the lipsticks and then the lip tints.

They also have a tinted lip balm in the shape of a cute wine goblet:

Here is an Amazon link for the mascara

and here is a set of three tiny sizes of the lip tints.

Hi! I received w3ll people's expressionist mascara in my 'gooodebeing' box a couple months ago and it's become my go-to black mascara. Here is the amazon product link:

http://www.amazon.com/W3LL-PEOPLE-Expressionist-Bio-Extreme-Mascara/dp/B00O859WWU

It's made primarily with beeswax with some natural pigments. It's pretty pleasant to remove and doesn't bother my sensitive eyes (and even just lining them can have them treaming sometimes.)

Also, it looks like I got it in brchbox, not goodbeing.

My main wishlist is Mrskimchi, in which all of these items can be found!

  1. Did somebody say posh? I'll get round to it right after I take the dogs out on a hunt in my dashing riding boots on my chestnut filly...

  2. Although the color is quite becoming, I'd be rather embarrassed to wear this outside the home

  3. I'm certain a teenager somewhere has shoved this lil cylinder up their bum...

  4. I'm 30 and I love anime, so what!!! My inner geek has been crying out for this for quite some time...

  5. I've been saving for ages to be able to start my dream of traveling, which has been a goal for a long time. All I need now are a set of suitcases and some comfy shoes!

  6. With a 1 month battery life this little doodad will keep me entertained if I ration my reading out....hopefully I'd be rescued in a timely fashion!

I’m so sorry for the delayed response - I’ve seen it at Walgreens (in the area where they have limited edition or seasonal items) and Target (on the ends of the beauty aisles), but I get mine from [Amazon] (https://www.amazon.com/LOreal-Paris-Voluminous-Original-Building/dp/B07BMYD4NX). I love the Navy Blue too! I’ve been using Burgundy on my top lashes and Navy on the bottom.

This mascara by Innisfree (Korean brand) is one of my favorite mascaras. It's the skinniest wand I've seen yet, and it has those lengthening fibers that work great with my short, straight lashes.

u/atouchofyou · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

I've not used it personally, but the Innisfree Microcara has good reviews, a small brush that would probably be good for smaller lashes and is not waterproof.

Rạch Giá, Kiên Giang. It's at the southern tip about 5-6 hours from Saigon, fairly small at 250k population.

Some prices were similar to Amazon's but beat theirs when the discount was applied. 1 USD is a little more than 23,000VND currently but I'll use that exchange rate.

Cowabunga! I'd have to recommend this cheap waterproof mascara. I used to have the product before it ran out. I love to lay out and swim throughout the summer & this mascara really did stay on!

Nothing fancy, but works great and is cheap enough to afford to replace it every few months brown mascara recommendation

  1. I actually posted this same album for the contest which item would you be since I, too, love mascara! My favorite mascara is Smashbox Full Exposure, at the moment anyways since it's almost gone -____-

  2. I so desperately want MAC Plush Lash again </3 I've had it before and it's awesome, I just haven't gotten it since as it is a bit pricey and I'm a broke college student.

  3. Now something about me, I'm a Leo!

T H I S my lower lashes are super long and aside from clear mascara, innisfree is the only one that doesn't look crazy and doesn't transfer

For anyone interested, full-size lasgasm is available on amazon for $13 right now.

My favorite mascara is [ULTA's Amped Lashes] (http://i.imgur.com/8DqtI3K.png). That is a picture of me wearing two coats of it.

I desperately want to try [Physicians Formula Fake Out mascara] (http://www.amazon.com/Physicians-Formula-Organic-Mascara-7883/dp/B00A86ECBE)

Not dumb at all! :) I was using Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express in Glam Black. In the past some of the tubes haven't been the greatest, so I also use CoverGirl LashBlast Fusion in Very Black.

They sell it at Ulta too if you have one in your area, but here's the link, I was skeptical at first but it's well worth it!

Apparently it's discontinued :( There are some left on Amazon if you're willing to pay $19 for it, though.

But actually, it looks like Walmart still has some at around the original price! But only for pickup. Fingers crossed there are some in stock near you!

I have very sensitive eyes with dry skin surrounding them so I have been on the hunt too for a mascara that does not irritate my eyes. Just discovered W3ll People’s Mascara I’ll report back when I’ve used it for a bit.

u/fkaxtwigs · 3 pointsr/muacjdiscussion

If you’re in the US, it’s cheaper on amazon.
