For outers I don't think I will ever turn away from these 4mil polyethylene from Square Deal Recordings. The only issue is if you are into having the sealable flap thing, but I prefer this open style.

For inners I haven't been using these for as long, but I'm pretty happy with these rounded ones from Taguchi. They seem to be doing a good job at holding off static (my main concern), and so far they seem sturdy enough despite being really thin. They are definitely not for everyone, but with the rounded edge and the thinness of them, they slide easily into my existing sleeves. Only issue is that they still stick out maybe a centimeter past the paper sleeve, but honestly, I don't mind it at all. Mofi type sleeves look nicer, but these are way cheaper and are doing the job, so I'm happy.

If going new, Fluance RT82 $299 for the optical sensor speed controlled motor for lower wow and flutter and speed variation specs than the many other new turntables for under $500. It also has auto stop and an external belt drive. Skip the older RT81 that does not have the speed sensor.

A later optional upgrade is an acrylic platter for around $99 as seen on the out of stock $499 RT85 when Fluance gets it in stock and starts selling it on its own.

Use the phono input on your Sony receiver or for a phono preamp upgrade with the remaining budget, try the popular Schiit Mani $129 or a Hagerman Bugle3 $189 (both have adjustable gain settings) besides many other options. Or if you DIY, Muffsy DIY Phono Kits.

Just a few suggestions. 1 your tv needs to go up a bit. I like this stand. I hate the tiny feet. It’s easy to attach. So for outer sleeves I use the Sleeve City Ultimate Outer 5.0 on my best records and the thinner 2.5 on everything else. I like them because they are super protective but also absolutely clear and doesn't obscure artwork. For inner sleeves I use the MoFi Original Master Sleeves. There is another I am meaning to buy but I totally forgot what it is and I can't find it on Amazon haha.

I use the Big Fudge 3mm and honestly think they're perfect. Not too loose on a single LP, yet can fit a gatefold perfectly with good clarity and no haziness.

I recommend these. For Prime members, Amazon offers free two-day shipping is a pretty great deal :
https://www.amazon.com/Coverage-Blu-ray-Steelbook-Plastic-Sleeves/dp/B01D4WMWCO/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

These cases are loose enough that you can easily store the J-card or backer card with the steelbook, without any hassle. I have found this case to be the most convenient option. This slipcover is closed at all sides and fully prevents scrathes.

u/mynameislincoln14 · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

It is a walk-in closet. My idea is something similar to this, but due to the volume of discs, I was looking for something more cost effective. I also don't care for the binders; I prefer to keep the discs in their original packaging. I will take some photos tonight and post them on here to give you a better idea of what I'm working with.

u/revglenn · 6 pointsr/nin

I've been into record collecting for a few years now. I would definitely not use the sleeves with artwork, and I would strongly recommend not using the paper sleeves either, but rather picking up some poly-lined sleeves. I use these things not just for my NIN records, but for All of my records. I throw away any generic white sleeves, house the record in one of these poly-lined sleeves, and keep that and the empty sleeve with the artwork inside the jacket.

If you're using the sleeves with the artwork, they are likely to be damaged over time. The seems will probably split, particularly at side opposite the opening. Not only does this damage part of that packaging which contains artwork, but it creates dust and pulp as the paper breaks down from use, which can then get into your record causing popping, crackling and scratches.

The paper sleeves that come with the records do a pretty good job, and the eventual wear won't damage anything with artwork. However, the pulp/dust problem can still crop up. Also, regular paper sleeves can be kind of abrasive. They're not something that's going to create a big scratch, but they can contribute to wear on the record.

The poly-lined sleeves have a later of slick plastic that adds durability and smoothness. The plastic isn't abrasive and doesn't wear down the same way. It protects the record better, while keeping the record from damaging the jacket or any other artwork.

u/AutomaticExamination · 2 pointsr/DataHoarder

usually if a disc is rotten, it's unreadable throughout

if you just worry about a scratch, bad spot, ... you could just store several copies of your file on it

rot (from air) usually goes from outside in, so it affects the end of the disc first, so storing "just" 50MB is fine

rot (from sunlight) is everywhere, nothing will help you

DVDs last very long (I have 10+ years old discs that still read fine) if stored properly (not exposed to light or air, not bent or tossed as that damages the outer seal)... basically as long as you put them in a closed cupboard/drawer you're more or less fine, these open-air cd cases on the other hand are shit (e.g. don't use this https://www.amazon.com/Stackable-Clear-Plastic-CD-Holder/dp/B0000E1VRT - at least not out in the open - may be fine for commercial CD collection but not burned discs)

If you rely on DVD as a backup, and that's fine (besides tapes, it's the only thing that survives when the PSU blows a fuse), even if just for the most important data - expect to re-new every few years anyhow

----

> I feel that surely almost every DVD will be able to have 2% of it's data readable in 200 years if kept under not terrible conditions, right?

I don't think so. Well, the M-Disc makes such promise (which I don't believe), but regular ... no way. 10 years okay, 100 years nope, 200 years you're dreaming

point is, 10 years is good enough already. just make more copies

u/rhythmrice · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

The paper cover on the case still looks like it's in relatively good condition. You could get a blank Blu-ray case and then put the paper cover in that and it would look just fine besides that little corner but at least the spine would look good on your shelf and the case wouldn't be all cracked up

Something like this

u/storunner13 · 1 pointr/AdviceAnimals

I often prefer listening to an entire album. It brings me back to the days of CD players (before mix CDs were the rage). You'd hop in a friend's car and sift through the giant book of cds to pick an album.

Plus--it helps tame the desire to just skip a song, hoping for something better.

u/A20Dude · 2 pointsr/Steelbooks

I love these protectors: https://www.malkoprotectors.com/movieprotectors
I've only used these, as I started protecting my steelbooks a few weeks ago and these were perfect.
You can also buy them at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NK37B3P/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/TAFK · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

Honestly just get something [like this] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002ROGD4E/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and straight up replace the cases. It's cheap enough that it is worth it and honestly since I've started doing this all of my PS1/Dreamcast games look like new. You can clean off all the stickers you want but things like scratches/scuffs/cracks can't be removed.

u/Kairiot · 1 pointr/Flipping
  1. I don’t know, sorry. All I do know is that vinyl collectors are picky! So don’t over-estimate condition

  2. Use these (or something similar) for the records, and get something like this to Mail them

    Hope that helps!

EDIT: I just realized you were talking about 45s and not 33s. My advice still stands, just use stuff for 45s instead of 33s like I picked out.
u/ShotFromGuns · 2 pointsr/vinyl

Looks like you're in the U.K., so YMMV, but have you checked Amazon? I get great poly outer sleeves for a very reasonable rate on the U.S. version of the site: (LP/7"). A cursory search turns up a couple of options for paper 7" inner sleeves from the same vendor: 100 count of slightly larger; 500 count of slightly smaller. I wouldn't be surprised if you could find something similar by you. (For instance, here's a 50-pack or 100-pack of paper sleeves for 7" records on Amazon.co.uk.)

I've see these multiple times at random stores and possibly Ikea at a few times.
I'm pretty sure it's just a photo storage box as it's the right size for storing 4x6 prints.
Here's something similar from B&H Photo

My lovely wife and I sat down with a clear ruler and placed each of the 1" x 1" from the bottom corner. Took about 30 minutes to do them all.

u/TophatMcMonocle · 1 pointr/vinyl

These "Paper & Plastic Poly-Lined Record Inner Sleeves" from Amazon are magnificent and my new favorites.

u/sparrowxc · 6 pointsr/dvdcollection

I would say you dont need to downsize your collection. You need to downsize your storage. I went with These Binders for my collection, got my 600+ DVDs down into a dozen books for under 120 bucks. Each book holds 48 and is expandable to 60. I keep my Blu Rays in cases, but the DVDs are definitely down to binders, and I am so much happier with it.

EDIT: And I chose those binders since they are nice enough to still be displayed

u/Bless-me-ultima · 1 pointr/Marvel

I honestly just didn't personally care for the film. Whedon and Ruffalo did an incredible job introducing the Hulk in The Avengers, so I'm completely happy starting the Hulks story from there. STOKED for Ragnarok!

Also, I have mine in protective sleeves!

I've had luck with these

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0030IW10Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I like the rounded bottoms because I have a lot of older jazz records that don't have room for a full sleeve. Plus, they are thin enough to put into the original inner paper sleeves that came with the records (or next to them, for that matter).

u/gibba97 · 1 pointr/JuiceWRLD

My bottom right corner is a bit worn and the last 9 a little smudged but besides that it’s good condition. Just plastic outer sleeves so that the sides and edges don’t get scratched when storing them. They’re like these. Link

u/john_the_doe · 1 pointr/minimalism

I recently did this and saved an entire book shelf.

I bought 2 similar binders, gutted my DVDs, TV, Blueray and CDs (kept about a dozen limited editions and fancy packaging as is).

I gave away all my CD cases to a friend who has a large CD collection and would like to repair some cracked jewel cases.

u/second_ary · 3 pointsr/houston

looks cool. maybe next time buy some sleeves and punch through the sleeves instead. they'll also be protected. you could rotate what you display without destroying the jackets.

I use these now. They have a nice weight to them and are stable. Little more $$$ though.

You can (and should) also anchor them too the wall, if you haven't already. I have one set left similar to yours and I ended up needing to that to be able to sleep at night.

I recently threw out all of my DVD cases and put all of my DVDs into a a big CD binder similar to this and I haven't been missing the cases at all. If you don't mind parting with the cases, it's one way to free up a lot of space without having to build anything.

I'm guessing you're choosing to keep them naked because the ones you have or have tried are a bit cloudy and don't show off the spines. I'd recommend checking out these Ultimate Outer 5.0 sleeves sleeves from Sleeve City. I have them on every record I own. I used to use the cheap cloudy ones, but the difference here is immense.

u/DiggingNoMore · 2 pointsr/dvdcollection

I have two of these. Each one can hold like 200 discs.

Every disc comes out of its case (which goes directly into the recycle bin), and the discs are placed in CD sleeves in one of these boxes. One box is for TV seasons; one box is for movies. Both are alphabetized. I have no doubles and never will. I buy movies without the cases when possible.

I posted in the past, but that shelf wasn't as full. Since then I've added near 200 titles.
Shelf located here.

These are the first I found. There are probably places to order a larger quantity for a lower unit price.

Looking for recommendations on anti-static inner sleeves.

I've been using Taguchi Round LP Inner Sleeves but they seem to be harder to get a hold of at this time or the price has gone up. I read reviews on various products, including sleeve city and many seem to have complaints of not being truly anti-static. I haven't had any issues with the Taguchi. I am also looking for rounded bottom sleeves and about the same thinness.
